The need to gain a competitive edge through profitable innovation is
greater now than at any other time in our history. Creativity and
innovation do not happen in isolation but are connected to the
performance of the institution in the application of innovative thinking in
developing new products and services.Hon'ble President of India, Sri
Pranabh Mukherjee has exhorted the academia to set up National
Innovation Clubs in every university and college.
To harness the creative potential of youth, VTU has formed a team of
students and faculty members to set up a National Innovation Clubs in
every affiliated Engineering College. These clubs will coordinate all the
local activities related to innovation at college level. A vibrant
knowledge Network has to be created across the state of Karnataka.
Primarily the clubs will pursue four functions: (i) search (ii) spread(iii)
sense (iv) celebrate creativity and innovation in the region. VTU will
implement such an innovation model comprising its over four lac students
and faculty members across the state that almost every student will be
inspired to do something new. Each National Innovation Club at college
level will adopt and adapt these guidelines and execute in their college.
In case innovation clubs want to take up additional activities, they should
feel free to do so. They can take up value addition in local ideas, test
some of the innovations, modify the design or cover the whole value
chain of Innovation including student based entrepreneurship. The club
may also extend its efforts and include activities like skill development
and other complementary activities.
Some colleges may have already industry-institute cell or support system
for innovation/design/entrepreneurship and similar activities. These
teams and coordinators of the ongoing activities which already exist
within the college can also be taken into the Innovation team so that they
can contribute meaningfully for the goals of these clubs.

This issue of News Letter reflects the various activities of the
University towards achieving academic excellence. We have made
significant progress and achievements for fostering an
environment of change and innovation to further development of
students and educators.
VTU played crucial role in providing a platform for organizing
Faculty Development Programme in association with Computer
Society of India-Bangalore Chapter. Faculty Development
Programme (FDP) is designed to train and develop faculty members
to enable to act as resource persons in guiding and motivating
young students to take up this as a career.
FDP organized during 10-11 January 2013 witnessed leaders like
Prof. M. I. Savadatti who shared his rich knowledge with faculty
members. Over 100 faculty members from various engineering
colleges were participated in the programme.
“VTU Bio-Fuel Information and Demonstration Center” continued
its efforts to promote and demonstrate all aspects of the bio-fuels.
The Center organized one day National Seminar on Bio-fuel and
Research Opportunities on 19th Feb - 2013 at VTU, “Jnana
Sangama” Belgaum. Over 300 delegates from academia and
industry and farmers were participated in the seminar.
I hope the information published in this Issue will enlighten and
inspire the Readers. Hence, we invite you to read this News Letter

Organized one day National Seminar on Bio-fuel and ResearchOpportunities on 19th Feb - 2013 at VTU, “Jnana Sangama” Belgaum.
Visvesvaraya Technological University,
Belgaum, in association with, Karnataka State
Bio-fuel Development Board (KSBDB),
Bangalore has organized one day National
Seminar on B io- fue l and Research
Opportunities on 19th Feb - 2013 at VTU,
“Jnana Sangama” Belgaum.
The National Seminar has been inaugurated by
Dr. VamanAcharya, Chairman, Karnataka State
Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Bangalore.
After inaugurating the seminar Dr. Acharya said
that, “Ethanol is best source of energy. It can
be produced by many raw materials including
garbage. Unfortunately, in India, through
patenting many multinational companies have
monopoly over the agricultural products which
are useful for production of ethanol”. He called
upon the research scholars to peruse research
in the field of biofuels. Research has to be
undertaken for the present generation not for
the future generation, he added.
Sri Y. B. Ramakrishna, Executive Chairman,
KSBDB delivered the Key note address. In his
address he said that, Indian economy is
dominated by agricultural sector. Lot of waste
land is available in our country, which can be
used for growing crops useful for production of
biofuels, thereby we can improve the
agriculture sector also. As per the estimate 50%
of biomass is wasted in our country, he added.
Dr. VamanAcharya, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Bangalore inaugurated the One-day National Seminar. Sri Y. B. Ramakrishna, Executive Chairman, KSBDB, Sri. A. K.
