seven principles of sustainability
heated by biofuel from Cyclus and rest-heat from Steenland Choco-late
the existing structure and waste material from nearby buildings is re-used wherever possible
heat is better isolated by the EFTE foil and the roof captures more heat from the sun
less artificial light - and therefore electricity - needed because the roof is opened
customers of the Vrijbuiter shop can visit the garden and restau-rant and vice versa
the food in the restaurant is locally produced
double floor/space use, no sepa-rate building necessary for the tropical garden

De Vrijbuiter is a camping shop in the to be build Go Stores shopping mall in Goudse Poort, Gouda. It has a shopping area of 8000 m2 and serves 400 000 custom-ers per year.
Its products include bags, tents, garden furniture, boats, swimming pools and barbeques.
The shop in Gouda is one of the three Vrijbuiter shops in the Netherlands. It was started in 2008.
Its customers come from the western part of the Nether-lands, up to 75 km distance. The main reason to visit a Vrijbuiter shop is the price of the products, as it is one of the cheapest outdoor shops in the Netherlands.
The main competitors are Vervat (Rotterdam), Obelink (Winterswijk), De Wit (Schijn-del) and Outdoor XL (Baren-drecht).

in the new situation, visitors of the Vrijbuiter will visit the garden and vice versa
at the moment, all energy used to heat up and light the building is lostbecause of the poor insulation, the gas bill is high
EFTE is a transparent plastic which, in two or three layers, can form air-cushions to cover a building. It is mainly know of the Eden Project in the UK and the Olympic Swimmingpool in China.
The material is extremely durable, has self clean-ing properties and is 100% recyclable. Because of its light weight, the roof can be lighter than the air inside.
the shop will be heated by biogas and rest heat from Steenland Chocolate. the heat-energy has a second use in the garden, and has a much smaller loss because of the insu-lation capabilities of EFTE.
the electricity flow will decrease because the shop can be lighted by daylight
the shop is a throughput of visitors

the main and secondary route that the visitors can take through the garden
the walking-path of the visitors is the guiding ele-ment for displacing the roof panels
the shop and garden are subdivided in 6 areas or ’atmospheres’
section of one roof panel
condensation-water management detail
shop roof = garden floor climate concept
ground floor plan with the changes marked in red
The indoor temperature will be 21 degrees celcius, all year round. Because tropical plants need a higher humidity than Vrijbuiter products, there will be a humidity division between the two levels.
Water that condensates on the EFTE cushions will move to its lowest point, where it will drop into the roof construction which doubles as a drain.
