The Stuart facility opened in 1950 as a company operation adjacent to Witham Field in Martin County. It initially was utilized for Flight Test Operation, and saw its first production programs in 1963. Since the introduction of the Garrett TFE731 turbofan engine in 1972, the site has performed long-term nacelle subcontracts for a variety of commercial business jet customers. Assembled in Stuart, the nacelles currently are used by Raytheon Corporate Jets Limited, and on the Dassault Falcon Jet 50. The Stuart operation has been part of the 767 program since its inception in 1979. Since 1983, the facility has produced nacelles and thrust reversers for the Gulfstream IV Series executive jet. In 1991, the company signed a contract with Boeing for production of inboard trailing-edge flaps for the 777 airliner, the largest twinjet airliner in service. Today Stuart is a premier manufacturing facility for both composite and metal aircraft assemblies, and has the equipment required for sheet metal, tool and machined part fabrication. The facility is also a licensed FAA Repair Station (VGMR471L) for commercial aircraft components, and is Joint Aviation Authority certified. In 2002, the door production for the Boeing 737, 747, 757 and 767, and the 747 floorbeam lines were transferred from Perry, Ga., to Stuart. Approximately 160 people relocated to the Stuart area to support this work. 03/03 Stuart Brochure Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. 1801 S.E.
