Welcome to the third annual Ignite Volunteer Awards ceremony! We are here to honor the unsung, roll up your sleeve, boots on the ground volunteers who continue to make our community – our home – better! This celebration was created to showcase the fiery passion volunteers have for making the world around them a little brighter and a little better. That passion –“fi re in the belly” type passion – to give back in meaningful ways is exactly why we use the tagline “Ignite Action. Accelerate Change.” Their service to our community is inspiring; it’s catching. Hands on Birmingham in partnership with the United Way of Central Alabama exists to connect volunteers with meaningful opportunities to collaborate and connect with the communities that need a helping hand. We could not accomplish our mission without the myriad volunteers like those we recognize today.

Greetings Community Advocate,
On behalf of the City of Birmingham, it is my honor to welcome to the IGNITEVolunteer Awards Celebration. For three years in a row, I have witnessed the outpouring support of many citizens who have directly and indirectly made an impactful difference to our communities.
Every day, volunteers dedicate countless hours through many opportunities toenhance our city. As we award the citizens who are generous with their time, let us remember the true meaning of what it means to be a volunteer. Because of these model citizens, we are able to take Birmingham to a new level with beatification enhancements and community outreach programs.
As the Magic City continues to flourish, we need more dedicated people like you to do the “boots on the ground” work that is needed to sustain a city. We cannot create the change we want to see unless we are willing to do something that will change the outcome. Always remember that the city stands behind the champions who are supportive of community-based endeavors.
Sincerely,
Randall L. Woodfin Mayor

Purpose of the AwardsHands on Birmingham, a Program of United Way of Central Alabama, presents IGNITE: an innovative awards celebration designed to publicly recognize the many unsung and dedicated citizens who are outstanding volunteers and service-oriented leaders in Birmingham and surrounding communities.
Each day, committed volunteers ignite action and accelerate change through their service to others. While their actions often go unrecognized, volunteers are truly the catalysts through which real change happens.
For this reason, Hands on Birmingham envisioned IGNITE as a platform to pay tribute to those dedicated volunteers who have made significant contributions in service and leadership throughout the Greater Birmingham area.
