    BEST III activities in a nutshell

  • BEST III activities in a nutshell Lot 1 of the project aims at Setting up a BEST working team encompassing a BEST central team and regional hubs. Setting up and organising the BEST III steering Committee meetings. Setting-up a BEST platform, where information on the BEST initiative and funding opportunities, the ecosystem profiles, the BEST strategies, new projects and more in general, on biodiversity and ecosystem services in EU Overseas entities is regularly exchanged between different biodiversity stakeholders.

  • Fund raising activities and information sharing on funding opportunities will be organised with the objective to leverage long-term and sustainable funding to ensure a future for BEST. Developing BEST strategies or investment strategies. The profiles will be science-based, developed with a participative and inclusive approach and will have the objective to inform and underpin the BEST regional strategies

  • Lot 2 of the contract has the objective To improve the knowledge on EU Overseas ecosystems by developing regional and sub-regional ecosystem profiles.

  • BEST III Steering Committee

  • The Mission of the BEST III Steering Committee is to support the BEST III project in meeting its objectives; in particularly, by acting as a bridge between the BEST central team and the institutions, services and organization represented at the Steering Committee. The SC will: - engage internally the BEST central team, and externally with the EC - help guide the work of the BEST III project and ensure that its activities reflects the priorities of the BEST Initiative. - monitor the effective implementation of the BEST III project

    The Steering Committee will have a particular role in the following activities: - Assist the interface with the EC Services, Members states, OCTS and ORs as well as other relevant EU funded projects; - Assist liaison and collaboration with relevant EU programmes; - Provide input into the project work plan and activities; - Support the BEST central team with advices; - Assist in identifying funding opportunities as well as developing solutions for channeling funds to the BEST initiative; - Identify key dissemination activities for BEST projects promotion and BEST III results; - Assist in identifying new members;

  • Membership

    BEST III Steering Committee members

    • Representatives of the BEST working team, • Representatives of Commission services, • Representatives of EU Member States active in ORs and OCTs including through

    relevant financial institutions, • Designated representatives (up to 3, on a rotational basis to ensure geographical

    representativeness) through OCTA and the OR Conference • The co-ordinator of the BEST facilitating project • The co-ordinator of the NETBIOME CSA project • + Invited representatives from other associated organizations

  • Frequency and Conduct of Meetings

    The Steering Committee will meet at least twice a year in Brussels The Secretariat will be ensured by the BEST central team who will give notice of meetings 15 days prior to its taking place. The Secretariat will provide meeting documentation at least one week prior to meeting. Communication will be maintained between meetings as necessary, via audio conference and a dedicated mailing list, (logistics provided by the BEST central team).
