Poem: Wild Geese Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your kneesfor a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your bodylove what it loves.Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.Meanwhile the world goes on.Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rainare moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,are heading home again.Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -over and over announcing your placein the family of things.

The Reading: Matthew 18:15-20Jesus said, “If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”

Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.People: Thanks be to God.

The Reading is followed by a brief period of silent reflection.

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Celebrant: It is truly right, and good and joyful,to give you thanks, all-holy God,source of life and fountain of mercy.

You have filled us and all creation with your blessingand fed us with your constant love;you have redeemed us in Jesus Christand knit us into one body.Through your Spirit you replenish usand call us to fullness of life.

Therefore, joining with Angels and Archangelsand with the faithful of every generation,we lift our voices with all creation as we sing:

Page 7: Voluntary Poem: Wild Geese Mary Oliver - ccral.org Wild Geese Mary Oliver You do not have to be good ... Leader: God of love and mercy, People: Hear our prayer. The Celebrant adds

Celebrant: Blessed are you, gracious God,creator of the universe and giver of life. You formed us in your own imageand called us to dwell in your infinite love.

You gave the world into our carethat we might be your faithful stewardsand show forth your bountiful grace.

But we failed to honor your imagein one another and in ourselves;we would not see your goodness in the world around us;and so we violated your creation, mistreated one another, and rejected your love.Yet you never ceased to care for us,and prepared the way of salvation for all people.

Through Abraham and Sarahyou called us into covenant with you.You delivered us from slavery, sustained us in the wilderness, and raised up prophetsto renew your promise of salvation.

Then, in the fullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus.

Sanctus

Celebrant: Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: All: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Celebrant: Remembering his death and resurrection,we now present to you from your creationthis bread and this wine.By your Holy Spirit may they be for usthe Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Grant that we who share these giftsmay be filled with the Holy Spiritand live as Christ’s Body in the world.Bring us into the everlasting heritageof your daughters and sons, that with all your saints, past, present, and yet to come,we may praise your Name for ever.

Celebrant: Born into the human family, and dwelling among us,he revealed your glory.Giving himself freely to death on the cross,he triumphed over evil,

opening the way of freedom and life.

On the night before he died for us,Our Savior Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you,he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said:“Take, eat:This is my Body which is given for you.Do this for the remembrance of me.”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks,he gave it to them, and said:“Drink this, all of you:This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for allfor the forgiveness of sins.Whenever you drink it,do this for the remembrance of me.”

You will need to plan, prepare, serve and clean up for the meal. Please remember to include something for vegetarians - not just a salad. Your team will have access to the Christ Church kitchen the evening of the meal. You can help us by picking a date and signing up to serve a meal. New for the 2017-2018 program year, is a once-a-month “snack” collection to have on hand in case of allergies, trips, and more. Many hands make for lighter work and we appreciate your support with our meals. Contact: Copie Cain [email protected].

Our fundraising goal of $40,000 for the 2017-2018 season will allow us to increase our advertising, allowing our concerts to reach more people. Those who wish to contribute may send a check made payable to Christ Church with “Friends of Sacred Music” on the memo line, or you may make a donation online at www.ccral.org/give . We are truly grateful for our generous supporters.

Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)EYC is a Sunday evening program that meets throughout the academic year. EYC gives students a space to explore, deepen, and sustain their relationship with Christ, learn more about the church, and find ways to connect with peers through food, fellowship, prayer, and fun!

Most Sunday evening’s youth and volunteers will meet in the Baker Wing Basement Room 012. Junior and Senior EYCs are split for activities and games, but we all eat together between programs. Throughout the school year we’ll take trips, do service work, and hang out around town. All are welcome to join us whenever possible!
