President’sNotes

Well summer is behind us and fall is trying to show up but with the weather still in the 70's and 80's I am having trouble getting into the Halloween spirit but the great piece taught by Peg Altemus after the September meeting and the wonderful piece that Kathy Bacskay will be teaching in October I am starting to get into the mood for pumpkins , apples and witches in my painting. It was nice to see all of you at the September meeting and I hope to see many more of you at the November meeting. We will have a short meeting , the installation of your new board and then paint a great piece designed by Kathy Denneler , taught by her and all the surfaces, paints and patterns supplied by her. She says this is her thank you to us for all the years she has been a member of this chapter. We will miss her and Louise greatly . They have both been very active in this chapter for many years. We are happy to hear that Louise likes her new home and I hope many of you will take the time to send her a letter or card now and again.

Our special raffle drawing will be held after the meeting in November so there is still time to get tickets if you haven't already purchased some. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are talking about another raffle next year and hope to have details at the November meeting. Next year we will have some changes to our lunches at meeting so be sure to read your newsletters. Also we are doing some chapter house cleaning and updating. The extra appliances we have are going to be given to a group that helps families in need.

Thank you to all the people that stepped up to be on the board for 2017. Without you there wouldn't be a chapter and without our wonderful members we would not be as great as we are. This chapter has amazing members and I am proud to be part of this chapter. I look forward to seeing you at the November meeting at the Providence Center in Fairfax . Have a great fall season and remember to take time to paint.

Ann

Thank You As you may know, Jean Rood is downsizing for a move. After many years of teaching she is generously sharing her stash with the NCC. At the last meeting she gave brushes, books , pallets, cups, painting surfaces and paints. She also has large items she would like to sell such as; Jackie Shaw chest, house shapes, CD cabinets, benches etc. if you are interested lease call Jean ((703) 323-9503) for information. Thanks again Jean.

September 17, 2016President Ann Davis called the meeting to order at 10:38 a.m. at the Providence Community Center, Fairfax, VA. Membership – Ann Davis stated that we had a quorum. Dues are due to SDP and $20.00 dues to NCC. Dues need to be paid by the November meeting or you will be delinquent. Ann Davis welcomed everyone to the meeting. Ann thanked everyone who attended the luncheon and thanked Peg Altemus and Ann Gibbons for the wonderful job they did with the luncheon. Ann Davis stated that we have placed a deposit and have a signed contract with the hotel in College Park for 2017. We are still selling tickets for the special raffle 6 for $5.00 or $1.00 each and will have the drawing in November. Secretary Report – Ann Davis asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes that were published in the newsletter. With no additions or corrections the minutes stand approved as printed. Vice President – Bobbie Draves was unable to attend but Ann Davis thanked her for stepping in for the remainder of 2016. Ann stated that Betsy Griner has moved and we all wish her and her family well. Treasurer Report – As of August 31st we have a balance of $6,403.50 which includes the $500 deposit to the hotel for next year’s luncheon. Virginia Rep. Report – Ann Gibbons stated that Peg will be teaching a Halloween project on canvas today after the meeting. October Kathy Bacskay will teach another Halloween piece and November Kathy Denneler will teach a Zebra and Rose project. Kathy stated that everything is free for this project. She is providing everything as a gift to us, since she is moving next year. Ann Gibbons needs someone to teach in January. Newsletter – Marie Kirzl stated that articles are due October 1st and if you can please get them in early

as they may go to see their daughter. Marie brought up that Jean Rood is moving and looking to sell or get rid of tons of painting books and pieces. If anyone wants any of this please call Jean. let her know. Ann stated we should think about whether we want a fund raiser next year. Ann Davis also brought up about our meeting places. She explained to the group that at the Hermitage we have to pay and at the Providence Center we do not. Marina Malcolm made a motion that we have all our meeting and paint-ins at the Providence Center if possible. Kathy Denneler seconded. Motion passed. Sometimes the Center schedules events and we may have to have the meeting elsewhere. Ann stated that it is time to weed out our supplies. We have too many coffee pots and other items that we do not need to keep. Rebecca Hotop works with ECHO a community service group that would be glad to have them. Kathy Bacskay stated that if anyone needs a reimbursement you need to get it to her no later than the middle of December as the books will be closed out at the end of the year. Ann Davis then discussed our Pot Luck. When we met Maryland, we would bring our own lunch and now we are having Pot Luck at every meeting. After discussion it was decided that we will have Pot Luck at the January and November meetings. At all other meetings bring your own lunch. Chapter will still supply coffee, tea and soda. With their being no other business, Ann Davis adjourned the meeting at 11:05 a.m.

PRESIDENT - LORRAINE LASCH

I have been a member of Nation’s Capital Chapter for many years. I have held the office of Secretary. I have served as Historian, Librarian, Vice President, President, and Membership Secretary. I am a Founders’ Medallion recipient. I have served on many of the Chapter’s committees. I am a member of six chapters and I am currently President of Shenandoah Valley Decorative Painters. have served as Secretary to many different organizations. Since then I've served on committees every year, painted lots of community service, raffle items, and taught paint-ins and Getaway classes. I am hoping that you will allow me to serve our wonderful chapter once again.

REPRESENTATIVE - ANN GIBBONS I became a member of the Nation’s Capital Chapter after attending the annual luncheon with a friend about five years ago. FROM THE EDITORS’ DESK

A very fond farewell to Betsy Griner who has moved out of the area. Betsy was a stalwart member of the chapter holding many offices, including President and Vice President, member and chair of numerous committees and always pitching in. We wish you well and hope you will keep in contact. You will be missed.

With the election of a new board for 2017 Please consider helping either on a committee, with suggestions on events to be held, or in any fashion that could benefit the chapter. Or just come and visit with friends.

Note, the change to the Founders Medallion nomination. The form must reach Peg by November 19, 2016 by mail, email or at the November meeting.
