INSIDE THIS ISSUE: G R A N D K N I G H T ’S M E S S A G E Brother Knights, Catholic Gentlemen,
In light of all of the horrible behavior being displayed by individuals that
have done some very terrible acts of violence of late, my mind began to
observe the behavior of people that I know and complete strangers. I have
noticed nothing but kindness in all the individuals I have come across
since my travels began when I left my house at the beginning of the year.
On Saturday, January 10 I rode with a brother Knight to Prattville, Ala-
bama to the State K of C meeting. During the meeting I observed speak-
ers speak of help for grieving parents that have lost a child or the help that has been accom-
plished to improve life in various communities across Alabama. Since I did not drive I offered
the mileage reimbursement to the brother that drove. He refused so we decided to place it in the
Knights-In-Need Fund. These were just some of the nice and kind things I observed that Satur-
day.
Sunday the observations continued with the kindness given to the several elderly members of our
Parish. A gentleman, at our K of C breakfast, about 70 years of age, stopped to carry on a 5-
minute conversation with a four year old about the young man’s Captain America shoes that lit
up when the little fellow walked. I saw two meals given freely at the K of C breakfast and pack-
aged up and handed to a women to carry them to a couple in their late 80’s that still live at home
but have no living relatives.
As I moved through our town I had conversations with people that are preparing to go to Haiti
and Uganda to help make that part of the world a little better. I heard joy in a friend’s wife’s
voice and face when she told me that her husband who had been near death is recovering and
will eventually be able to come home.
I guess what I am saying is that I believe that there is more goodness in this world than evil. The
problem is that smiles, kindness, help, hard work, charity do not make the forefront of our news
media. That is one reason that I personally enjoy reading “The One Voice’” and the “Columbia
Magazine.” They have nothing but positive information and tell of how Knights, schools, and
Parishes, are working hard to improve their respective communities. Even events that depict fun
and festive occasions show how good life can be. Even when these two publications provide
information about a serious issue, the focus is on what is being done positively to improve or
reduce the effects of the negative issue.
I truly believe that just like all the good people I have come across here in Alabama since Janu-
ary 10, people of like kindness are to be found in every place you can go in this world. I have
faith that the good Lord shall soften the hearts of those bent on violence and the violence will
eventually disappear into history. As for me, I am looking forward to additional conversations
about shoes that light up when a little one walks and more words about kindness.
Please remember to bring a non-perishable food item to K of C meets and events. Also remem-
ber that we need all the help we can get to work the Lenten Fish Fries.
May the joys and blessing that Lenten Season can bring you and your families be upon you and
may the Good Lord keep you always.
Vivat Jesus,
Mike

February Family of the Month
The Knight of Columbus
family of the month for
Council 11672 is the
Brother Steve Gentz fam-
ily. The family has consis-
tently attended the various
Knights of Columbus events and activities
throughout the year. He
has served at the Deputy
Grand Knight for the last
two fraternal years, and has been a valuable mem-
ber of the kitchen staff in
cooking up the breakfast
menu at the Council’s
Monthly Breakfast. His
family is very involved in
the various ministries at
the Parish such as youth programs and particularly
the Morris and Challenger
Food Backpack Programs,
which ensure that children
at these two schools have meals during the week-
end. The Brother Gentz
family is a valuable asset
to the Council, Parish, and
the community as a whole.
The Knight of the Month
for February is Brother Ed
Pamperin. Brother Pam-
perin has consistently sup-
ported the Council by
working tirelessly each
month for many years at the Council’s Monthly Par-
ish Breakfast. In addition
he has been a member of
the First Degree Exemplifi-
cation Team for many
years. The Exemplification
Team is vital to the Council
for continued growth of the Council and the Knight of
Columbus. Brother Pam-
perin sets an fine example
of what a Knight of Colum-
bus should be and con-tinuously strive to obtain.

The Knight of the Month
for March is Brother John
Bellono. Brother Bellono
volunteers his time and
effort to keep the Parish
computer network in good
operating condition. He is a consistent and tireless
volunteer at the Council’s
Monthly Parish Break-
fast. He supports the
Council by attending the various events and activi-
ties through out the
year. Brother Bellono for
several years now has
taken the responsibility to
put on a great Council Christmas party. Since he
has been leading this year
attendance, fun and enter-
tainment has in-
creased. He definitely sets the example of what a
Knight of Columbus should
be.
March Knight of the Month
March Family of the Month
The Knight of Columbus
family of the month for
Council 11672 is the
Brother Jerry Dombrowski
family. The family has
consistently attended the
various Knights of Colum-bus events and activities
throughout the year. The
Brother Dombrowski fam-
ily has specifically man-
aged the purchasing of food and adjunct items for
the Council’s Monthly Par-
ish Breakfast. This in-
cludes maintaining a cur-
rent inventory of food items
and ingredients, and such
things as paper plates. In
addition the Brother Dom-
browski family not only is involved purchasing neces-
sary materials, but man-
ages the purchasing team’s
efforts which is comprised
of several members of the Council. His family's ef-
forts have reduced cost
and have made our chari-
table more profitable, thus
increasing the Council’s
charitable giving.

Council Meeting Can Drive for the Good Shepherd Pantry
Don’t forget those
canned goods. Last year
the Supreme Council gave
a donation of $100 for
each 500 pounds of food
collected. However, this
Year Supreme requires 1,000 lbs. for the $100
donation. For the remain-
ing 3 meetings this year
our New Goal will be no
less than 742 pounds of food or equivalent dollar
donation, an average of
250 lbs per meeting. If
each member were to
bring 5 lbs. to each re-
maining meeting we could meet our new goal and our
council again receive the
$200 donation from Su-
preme.

SHORT STORY CORNER Submitted by the Grand Knight
The Pope is visiting New
York City. He was picked up
by a driver, Harold, at the
airport and was heading
toward the Vatican’s coun-
selor house when they came
into a huge traffic jam. After awhile the Pope says to his
driver, "Harold, why don’t
you let me drive, as I am
very familiar with traffic
jams having lived in Rome".
Harold hesitates, but he re-
lents, and says ok and ex-
changes seats with the Pope.
The Pope tells him to enjoy
the refreshments out of the
refrigerator, if he so wants.
As Harold was just about to
enjoy a sandwich and a
drink the vehicle lunges for-
ward and Harold drops the sandwich and drink and
checks his seat belt. The
Pope moves the vehicle off
the street on to the sidewalk
and begins to make a bunch of progress toward the Vati-
can’s counselor house. Peo-
ple and animals are clearing
off the sidewalk in a great
hurry.
About that time, a police officer named Sergeant
O’Brien sees the vehicle and
sets out after it on his mo-
torcycle with his siren blar-
ing. The Pope stops the ve-
hicle in response to the si-
ren. Sergeant O’Brien walks up to the vehicle’s driver
side window and the Pope
rolls it down. Sergeant
O’Brien looks into the vehi-
cle’s window and sees the Pope. He tell the Pope,
"your holiness, please don’t
go anywhere and don’t move
the vehicle", and his Holi-
ness says he won’t.
Sergeant O’Brien walks back to his motorcycle and calls
his Lieutenant and tells him
he just stopped a vehicle.
The Lieutenant says, “Oh no
O’Brien you haven’t stopped
the Mayor again.” Sergeant
O’Brien says to him, “no higher.” The Lieutenant
says, “not the Governor this
time.” Sergeant O’Brien
says, “no higher,” and the
Lieutenant groans and says, “not the President.” Ser-
geant O’Brien tells the Lieu-
tenant, “no but higher.” The
Lieutenant says, “How can
anyone be higher.” Sergeant
O’Brien says, “I don’t know,
but the Pope is his driver.”
Higher Authority
As told by Kevin O’Brien
Act of Adoration
I adore Thee, O Jesus, true God and true
Man, here present in the Holy Eucharist, humbly kneeling before Thee and united in spirit with all the faithful on earth and all the blessed in heaven. In deepest grati-tude for so great a blessing, I love Thee my Jesus with my whole heart, for Thou are all perfect and all worthy of love. Give me grace nevermore in any way to offend Thee and grant that I, being refreshed by Thy Eucharistic presence here on earth.
Amen.
By Tradition, the Catholic
Church dedicates the
month of April to the
Blessed Sacrament. One
thing that sets Catholics
apart from other Christians
who believe in the Real Presence (that the bread
and wine truly become the
Body and Blood of Christ)
is that we don't believe that
the Real Presence ends when the Sacrament of Holy
Communion is complete.
Frequent prayer before the
Blessed Sacrament, re-
served in the tabernacle is
a great path to spiritual growth. In this Act of Ado-
ration, we thank Christ for
His continued presence
among us, not just through
His grace but physically, in
the Holy Eucharist. His Body is the Bread of An-
gels, offered for our
strength and salvation.

QUESTIONS OF THE MIND from the Grand Knight
February’s Questions and Answers:
1. What is the name of
the first known European
thought to have been born
in North America?
The name of the first known
European thought to be born in
North America is Snorri Thor-
finnsson. He was born to a Vi-
king family between 1011 and
1013 AD on the north coast of
land, that is know today as New-
foundland.
2. What is logic?
Logic is the study of argu-
ment validity, which is whether a
logical argument is valid (good)
or invalid (bad)
3. In Logic, What is an
argument?
An argument is a set of one
or more premises followed by a
conclusion, which are often con-
nected by one or more intermedi-
ate statements.
4. What are premises
and conclusions?
The premises and conclu-
sions are always statements,
which are sentences that provide
information, which are either
true or false.
5. What is a valid argu-
ment
A valid argument is where
all of the premises are true, and
the conclusions must be true.
6. What is an enthy-
meme?
An enthymeme is an argument
where the obvious elements are
omitted.
7. In logic, what is the
law of non-contradiction?
The law of non-contradiction
states that given a statement
and its opposite, one is true and
the other one is false.
8. Who was Euclid and
what is he famous for?
Euclid lived from 325 to
265 BC. He is best known for his
work in geometry, which is still
called Euclidean geometry in his
honor. His greatest achievement
here is his organization of geo-
metric principles into axioms
(also known as postulates) and
theorems. Which contributed to
the study of logic.
9. What is Set Theory?
Set Theory, which was pio-
neered by Georg Cantor in the
1870’s, states that a set is just a
collection of things, which may or
may not have something in com-
mon. Then using logic one can
ascertain whether there is any
relationship of the “things” in the
listed set or whether they are
true or false.
10. Who said, “Logic will
get you from A to B.
Imagination will take you
everywhere?
Albert Einstein.
