As we enter the last quarter, there’s no slowing down for the Nobility of Kosair! Our Units and Clubs have done an outstanding job this year working for the Temple, our Circus and Kosair Charities. Thanks to all of you who made the pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the South Atlantic Shrine Association convention in mid-September.

Kosair was represented well, we enjoyed fine hospitality and a fun time was had by all. Our Motor Corps, Boat Club and Greeters all had outstanding special activities in September as well. Welcome to all of our new Nobles created at our “Ceremonial South” held in Lebanon, KY on September 27th. I hope each of you will engage yourselves in one

of our Shrine Clubs in your area. Thanks to Ill. Sir Dave Juergens for coordinating this great Ceremonial Day for Kosair.

It is now a proven fact; rain will not stop a true Sandbug member from enjoying the fellowship shared in this Club. On August 23rd, Il. Sir Butch Govoni, PP and Lady Suzette led a procession of Sandbug members to Frankfort, where 21 Nobles and their Ladies enjoyed another fantastic afternoon of great fellowship, food and fun at Jim’s Seafood Restaurant on the River. Noble Ronnie Melton, his Lady Linda, and passengers Noble Gary Morgan, HP&P and his Lady Teresa, were the third car in the line-up. Sure wish we had taken

towels to dry off and wipe out the cars! Lots of laughter, as we proceeded through sprinkles, downpours and big trucks splashing our bug drivers.

any outstanding petitions for our October 11th Ceremonial. The Fall Ceremonial activities will be held at the Bullitt County Shrine Club and I thank the officers and members for hosting the event. Please invite a Brother Master Mason to become a Kosair Shriner at the reduced rate of only $250 and turn his petition into the Recorder’s office before October 6th.

The Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F & AM session takes place this month and the four Shriners chapters in the Commonwealth will host our traditional Shrine luncheon during the session. The Grand Lodge and Shrine in Kentucky have always enjoyed a close relationship with mutual respect for each other. Kosair is fortunate and proud in that we have several Nobles who are Past Grand Masters of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky.

Our outstanding theme nights continue in October with “Elvis” appearing on October 17th. Elvis impersonator, Don Goodfleisch will entertain and I urge you to make your reservations early by calling the Recorder’s office. The Oriental Band will host their annual Halloween Bash at our Friday night dinner on October 24th. This is always a great event with lots of different costumes and surprises. On November 1st, the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, M.W. Bro. Wilson Wilder and I will dedicate the new Kosair Shriners headquarters in Buechel, KY. The ceremony will begin at 11am and we expect several public and Masonic dignitaries to be present and participate. Please mark your calendar and bring your family to be a part of this historic occasion. Dress is business casual with Fez and I hope to see Nobles represent their Units and Clubs in their respective uniforms.

Also, on November 1st is the annual Potentate’s Ball. This will be the last Potentate’s Ball to be held at our current location and the committee, led by Ill. Sir Aubrey Combs, has been hard at work to make it memorable. Tickets are only $75 per couple but there will be a strict limit due to space. Please order your tickets early and join us for a wonderful evening of fun, fellowship, dining and dancing.

On November 7th, we will honor our Armed Forces Veteran’s with a special program following dinner. The Kosair Legion of Honor will host the evening and reservations are a must. Please check your pocket calendar, the Kosair website and email for several other events and join us when you can.

As we progress toward the move to our new location, I wish to express my gratitude to all who are making it possible. Your Divan, Planning Committee, House and Finance Committees and our construction management firm, Planning & Construction Associates have all worked very hard during the year. Change is often uncomfortable and I am grateful that our Nobility has supported us along the way. Kosair is surely moving toward a bright future with “Strength & Fury!”

Funsters

Well, let’s start off by giving some kudos to some of our clowns.

First kudo goes to Festus and the Glasgow clowns, our Burkesville clowns and some of the Funsters from the Louisville area assisting in raising (drum roll please) $24,000.00 dollars for Kosair Charities in an event that was held down in Cave City, Kentucky. There were several dignitaries present. PP Dave Juergens, Potentate Shawn Warren and other personnel from Kosair Charities were there in support as well.

Thank you Festus for putting an a great benefit to

help the children, I’m sure they will appreciate that very much.

We also had some MRF (Motorcycle Riding Funsters) on their bikes without their training wheels going down there all dressed up in their outfits. I can see this now in the newspapers, Police pull over clowns going too fast on motorcycles!! That would be so funny because their driver license’s don’t have the same picture on it (well most anyway). Now that would be a hoot.

Street Machines

The Kosair Street Machines have been very busy. Noble Edd Fisher, President of the Street Machines, participated in the recent Street Rod Nationals show at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center held in Louisville. During the show he was awarded the “PPG Best Use of Color” trophy for his 1965 Ford Falcon, 2 door hardtop. Noble Fisher is a founding member of the Kosair Street Machines and has been working on his car for years. He has participated in many shows around the Louisville area and driven the vehicle in local parades. Edd works very hard in assembling workers, trophies and prizes for the annual Kosair Street Machine Car Show that is held in the spring.

Attached is a picture of Noble Edd Fisher and his wife Karin receiving their award from the PPG representative with the Street Rod Nationals Committee.

Speaking of our the Street Machines annual Car Show, we have a date set for April 19, 2015 at the Bullitt

County Shrine Club located just east of Shepherdsville, Ky. on Highway 44. We have been getting great participation and support from everyone. So mark your calendar. Spring will be here before you know it.

We continue to have our monthly Drive and Dine get together. The most recent was held at The Smokehouse BBQ located on Bardstown Rd. in Fern Creek. The attendance and food were awesome. We had 15 members and spouses that experienced good food and good conversation. Those present were Eddie Hall, Dorothy and “Huff” Huffman, Billie and Bill Foster, Brigid and Robert McGrew, Becky and Cliff Salmon, Janice and Marshall Geoghegan, Maxine and Randy Skinner, and Candy and Ed Embry.

The Street Machines meet on the 4th Monday of each month after the Unit Directors meeting. That is approximately 7:30 pm. We meet at Kosair Temple at the bottom of

the stairs. We are open to Noble with any street legal vehicle that wants to participate in parades representing The Kosair Shrine and wishes to sit and talk about cars and car stuff.

As we continue to move forward to the new building, we are looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, but at the same time we look backward with sadness. The old building has been the home for Kosair for many years. It has had its highs and lows. The Ball Room is a place where many of us greeted new and old friends. Where we elected our leaders and supported our Circus. There were times of celebration aplenty.

But, the old girl is tired. The stairs give it both character and challenge. The upkeep is becoming a burden. We will miss the beautiful chandeliers and covered walls. We will not miss the lack of heat in the winter and no air conditioner in the summer in our meeting room. We will miss the old lady.

The Greeters Fall Dance was held at Kosair Shrine Center on Saturday Evening, September 27, 2014 and again with Ann Turners assistance we had another great dance, all who attended enjoyed the music of the Rob Brown Combo.

The Greeter October Executive and Regular Business meetings will be on Monday the 13th. The Executive Committee Meeting will begin at 5:00 PM. The Regular Business Meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.

A social hour by the Greeter Unit will begin at 6:00 P.M in the side

We have also been busy hitting the roads for several parades with many more to come before the season ends, but then, is there a “true” season for a Sandbug? Not really, as you will find us parading in December during several of the Christmas parades. A big “Thank You” to the Temple Parade Chairman, Noble Don Ward, for the outstanding job he has done. We are proud to have

him as a member of our Club.

Personally, I am looking forward to our next Drive & Dine. Maybe the weather will smile upon us! If you want to have fun, enjoy parading, think you would “look good” behind the wheel of a dune buggy, enjoy being with good friends, well you just may be a Sandbug member in the making.

Fall is upon us. Raking leaves, frost on the pumpkins. The farmer harvesting his fall crops. At the Louisville Scottish Rite we celebrate all of this with THE FEAST OF TISHRI.

Here are the coming events at Louisville Scottish Rite: On Thursday, October 2nd there will be a luncheon for the 33° DEGREE CLUB. We will have the election and installation of officers. All 33rd degree club members will be notified of the time and place.

On Thursday October 9th there will be a FAMILY NIGHT DINNER. Dinner will be served at 6:30p.m. After the meal we will celebrate the FEAST OF TISHRI. There is no cost for the meal. Please call the Scottish Rite office and make reservations for you and your guest.

October 12th-14th Plan on attending the 215th Communication of Grand Lodge. This will be an important time where the delegates will vote on the new revisions for the Constitution.

On Saturday October 18th Pewee Valley Lodge #829 will confer the 3rd section of the Master Mason degree. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. The conferral of the 3rd section will begin at 1:00p.m.

On Thursday October 23rd there will be a STATED MEETING. Refreshments will be served at 6:30p.m. with the meeting to follow. The L.E.A.D. committee will present the 27th degree.

On October 24th & 25th there will be a state wide reunion in combination of the Scottish Rite and York Rite. On Friday the 24th the York Rite will confer their degrees and Saturday the 25th the Scottish Rite will confer their degrees. Both days will start at 8a.m. The fee for the York is $150.00 including the dues for the balance of 2014.

The fee for the Scottish Rite degrees is $250.00 which includes the $100.00 dues for 2015. For petitions contact Mike Miller @895-7793 or the Scottish Rite office at 584-6185.

Ceremonial Director’s StaffJon S. Dawson, Secretary

Nobles, we lost one of our own in August, Noble Sir Michael V. Holt. He passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014. He was a United States Army veteran that proudly served his country in Vietnam. Mike was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Louisville Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine Temple and the Depauw Masonic Lodge #338 in New Albany. He was the past President of the Ceremonial Director Staff of the Kosair Shrine, a retired iron worker with the Local 680 Union and a member of the VFW Post 1698 Hobart Beach. Mike may be best remembered behind the wheel of the Director’s Staff 1962 Willis Jeep, which he drove in countless parades, all the while smiling and waving to the crowds. We are going to miss you Brother.

Our Fall Ceremonial will be held at the Bullitt County Shrine Club on October 11th so let’s get the word out and get those petitions in for this upcoming Ceremonial. There will be a Called meeting on October 6th to vote on the Fall Petitions, so make sure to mark your calendar.

A great time was had by all at the Marion County Ham Days Celebration. Especially by our new Nobles who were introduced to the Camel at the “PIGasus” Parade.

Don’t forget the Smoky Mountain Getaway Raffle, which includes two nights stay in a cabin/chalet,

two tickets to Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede dinner, $300 in spending money & a loaded gift basket. Winner will be drawn on October 25, 2014. Chances are just $5 each and are available at our monthly meetings – get them before they are gone!

Thanks go out to our roadblock team who have been doing a great job this year. The roadblock season is almost over with only the dates in October and November remaining, but our kids still need your help. Remember Nobles the more we have on hand, the more lanes we can cover, the more breaks we can take and the more money we can raise for the kids. We hope you’ll come out and help for at least couple of our October dates - it would be greatly appreciated.

We meet the first Thursday each month, unless there is a conflict such as the Shrine Circus or Pegasus Parade. Our meetings start at 7:30 PM with social time before and after the meeting. Ladies Oriental ClubBy, Carol Grant

On Tuesday, September 2, 2014, the Ladies Oriental Club had the pleasure of hearing, two of our own ladies, Brenda Reiss and Carol Sewell. Brenda is the “Queen of the Kosair Kuties” and Carol is a member. These ladies went to California to attend the National Convention of the “Red Hat Society.” They told of their experiences, at the convention and how the ladies dressed with big fancy Red Hats, frilly clothes and lots and lots of

bling, we even played some of the games, that they played at the convention. Brenda and Carol were the only two ladies from Kentucky attending and it seems that these ladies have a way of “shaking things up wherever they go”, as they had an earthquake while they were there, but we’re glad that they returned safe and sound. They invited all the ladies of Kosair to come and join the “Kosair Kuties.” The group meets once a month at a local

restaurant, to fellowship, wear their purple clothes, red hats, bling, shop or just have fun.

Our next dessert sale is September 26th and we need goodies to sell, so put on your white thumb and bring a cake, pie, cookies or other goodies to the dessert sale.

Christmas Season will soon be upon us and this year our Christmas Party will again be at Oxmoor Country Club – this year’s event will be on Thursday, December 11th, with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:00 p.m. A fun and festive evening for all.

Again, remember to pay your dues if this item has slipped your mind – also no dues cards will be sent. Looking forward to seeing you at the October meeting!!!!!
