CHINESE SISTER SCHOOL VISIT... For the last three years, Brentwood Park Primary School has hosted very successful visitations from our Chinese sister school; Yangzhong Experimental Primary School. Such visitations are facilitated throughout the state between Victorian schools and Jiangsu schools. Following the previous successful visits to Victoria over past years, the schools in Jiangsu would like to visit their sister schools in Victoria again this year. The school visits will be for 7 nights/ 6 days between 23 July 30 July 2017 depending upon flights. The maximum number of visitors will be twelve students and two teachers from each school. The host school activities / homestay arrangements would be similar to last year. This continues to be a great opportunity for our school community and we remain hopeful that with support from volunteer school families, we can accommodate this year’s visitation.

A NZAC Commemorative Service This year, the school’s ANZAC Commemorative Service will be

held on Tuesday 24 April at 2:30 p.m. Parents are very welcome to attend and join the staff and students in paying tribute. On ANZAC Day itself, our student leaders will be encouraged to attend the ANZAC Commemorative Service in Berwick, as official representatives of our school, and lay a wreath at the cenotaph prior to joining the ANZAC Day march. If students and families would like to take part in the Berwick ANZAC Day march, the school delegation will be meeting in the vicinity of Berwick RSL, 17 Langmore Lane at approximately 10:15 a.m. Students who are in attendance are asked to be dressed in school uniform.

S chool Car Park: Please note that parents are not allowed to enter the school car park when collecting

children at the end of the school day. Doing so is a dangerous practice. Student safety takes precedence over perceived inconvenience The only exceptions are those who need to use the disabled parking facility which is provided.

Y ear 6 Camp The camp date for Year 6 is May 28th to 30th. This year’s camp will be at Phillip Island

Adventure Park. If you are interested in attending a camp or would like further information, contact see Jim Narayan ASAP.

I nvitation to the South East Feast In conjunction with the Rotary Club of Berwick, Nossal High School are hosting a large community

Multi-cultural Food and Wine Festival – “The South East Feast” on Saturday April 21 on the grounds of Nossal High School and Federation (ex-Monash) University, 100 Clyde Road Berwick – between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. This will be a celebration of our multi-cultural community through gourmet foods, wine and boutique beer, music, dance and demonstration – there will be activities, displays and amusements and a petting zoo for the very young. We hope this will become a huge local event and any profits will benefit local charities (this year - Youth Mental Health First Aid) and the school. Nossal High School principal, Mr Roger Page, would like to invite our community to attend and is most grateful that we are able to publicise the event within our school community. He encourages all members of our community to attend – and would be very pleased to see you there too!

Please email, Facebook, copy, tell, family, friends, acquaintances, colleagues - everyone you know (and even those you don’t)

Junior and Senior School Athletics

This week, the junior and senior school athletics carnivals were held. The two days were both fantastic with some great running and sportsmanship displayed between the students. There were some fantastic individual results with one of the highlights of the day being the 100m and hurdles finals. Teresa, Karita, Neveah, Zoe, Natalia, Rui Rui, Nhidi, Crystal and Rose were superb in the 100m. For the boys Raj, Jordan, Jo-nah, Axel, Aaron and Hudson were terrific. In the hurdles Landon streaked ahead as did Charlie, Blake, Teresa, Crystal and Zoe. It was great to see so many year 3 stu-dents recording fast times for the 100m. Well done to Cooper, Rohan, Jayde, Juhee, Kyra and Savannah. High jump is a crowd favourite event with Zoe, Rose, Stacey, Ka-rita, Landon, Hudson, Chase and Justin getting the blue ribbons.

The junior carnival was a brilliant day too. There are many up and coming boys and girls who will definitely excel in athletics in years to come. Some fine performances were shown by Sam, Tane, Ayma, Jamie, Logan, Kornel, Bella, Spencer, Yunuka, Shiann, Bowen, Heidi, Emily and Natalia to name a few.

It was great to see so many students striving for their personal best and representing their house teams by wearing the associated colours. It was also great to see so many parents supporting the event.

The Kambrya College VCAL students were also crucial in the success of the junior day. It is great to have our neighbouring school associated with our major events. Thank you to Lisa and the Kambrya College students.

Thank you to the parents who assisted with the senior and junior athletics; Denise, Donna, Sandra, Kaylene and Belinda and the other parents who also assisted. Every-one’s help was greatly appreciated.

Regional Swimming

Last term, our school had 5 swimmers compete at the Regional Swimming Carnival at MSAC. Individually, Esther swam in the butterfly and breastroke, finishing 2

nd in both

events. The relay team of Isabelle, Emily, Ausea and Esther along with the medley re-lay team of Jessie, Emily, Ausea and Esther didn’t qualify for the final. To reach the Regional Swimming Carnival is a tremendous effort and the swimmers have certainly given their best efforts in each competition.

LATE TO SCHOOL

We have noticed a considerable rise in students being late to school this term; up to 36 daily!

This is unacceptable.

Punctuality is an important aspect of school life and allows fewer class disruptions in the morning.

Being on time ensures students, engage in the introduction to

lessons and maximises their learning opportunities.

We would appreciate you ensuring

your child is on time.

This is a reminder that you still cannot burn off as Restrictions are still in force. A number of brigades have been called out in recent days to residents burning off. We have had very little rain for the past 6 weeks so if a fire starts it will spread through the dry fuel quickly.... If you burn off and we get called then the police will also be called. If you see someone burning off please call 000 immediately.

P LEASE DIRECT MONEY FOR EXCURSIONS, ETC TO YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER - NOT TO THE OFFICE.

Please hand money and permission slip in sealed envelopes to classroom teacher first thing in the morning. By following this process teachers are aware that your child will be attending the excursion and mark them off

their lists. Money is collected by office staff and processed each morning and a receipt given back to teachers along with permission slips. All money is tallied and banked daily – no money is left on the premises. If you wish to pay by credit card, a proforma is available from the office. This can be filled out with details and placed in a sealed envelope and handed to your classroom teacher

Please deliver cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and grade on the front by 9.30 a.m. If you have a number of children attending an excursion you can place all money and permission slips in the one envelope with children’s names and grades on the front and deliver to one of the children’s teachers. The office staff will be able to allocate money to the children’s particular items and distribute permission slips and receipts back to teachers. Enve-lopes are available at the office. If you have a large amount to be paid or need to process an EFTPOS transaction through a savings account you can make arrangements to pay at the office. We also have a new Qkr payment system on our Skoolbag app. If you download our Skoolbag app and Qkr payment app you can now pay for your child’s excursion on line.

All change will be delivered to the children in the afternoon. Re-imbursements will only be made under certain circumstances – they will be made by cheque (no cash transactions are made).

Notices are sent out with a final collection time – please adhere to this time. All money and permission slips are required to be sent back by this date – otherwise your child will not be able to attend. This enables us to confirm bookings and numbers with bus companies and organisations we are visiting. Also we need to send details to the De-partment of Education Emergency Management for all excursions, camps, etc. We also need to accommodate students who will not be attending.

We would appreciate it if parents could please follow these processes.
