Summer has come to an end, and what an exciting sum-mer 2010 was! Campers sailed, climbed, zipped, swam, rode horses, canoed, tubed, played games, sang, studied the bible and experienced God in marvelous ways. We give thanks to God for once again demonstrating his goodness to us and using the Camp Judson ministry to touch the lives of campers, staff, and volunteers.

We had 589 campers register for camp this summer, while we came up significantly short of our goal of 700, we did increase our registered number of campers by 9.2% over the summer of 2009! We were also excited to have thirty campers from the refugee communities. During Arts Alive we had seven different languages being spoken and prais-ing God together!

161 campers received some sort of financial assistance from Camp Judson, thanks to all the generous individuals and churches who donated to the Camper Assistance Program and ECHO jugs. Your generosity raised $38,000 to send campers to camp, and at this writing it appears that we have about a $50 surplus! Thanks so much for allow-ing God to use you to help kids experience the love of Jesus at camp this summer.

Of the 589 campers that you helped get to camp this summer, 18 of them made first time decisions for Christ, 19 recommitted their lives to Christ, 68 made a commitment to daily devotions, 53 made a commitment to pray more, 31 made commitments to attend church regularly, and still more committed themselves to read their bibles regu-larly.

The summer was not without challenges (a summer long challenge sorting out hot water and dishwasher issues in the dining hall) and, the usual maintenance issues (broken wa-ter/septic lines, low wells from a lack of rain, etc). But through it all, God demonstrated his faithfulness by protect-ing us from disaster, providing for our needs, and impacting the lives of campers, staff and volunteers.

Thanks to the resident summer staff, and our volunteer counselors, CSPs, wranglers, kitchen staff, nurses, direc-tors, and store staff on all your work and service to make this summer a great one by sharing the love of Jesus and providing so many memorable experiences.

THE JBC NEWS THE NEWS FROM WHERE FAITH AND FUN MEET

A Great Summer!

The 2010 Resident Staff in one of their saner moments.

The Arts Alive girls from cabin 9 with their counselors, Amanda Morris and Vogue Bernard.

Thanks for Designated Offerings We want to thank everyone who has given to Judson so far this year either directly to camp or through their local church. Without your partnering in ministry with us, we would not be able to do what we do.

We received two special offerings through churches this year that supported the summer camp programs.

The Judson Day Offering (JDO) was designated for improvements and repairs to the pool. You gave nearly $5,800 to this offering. To this point, we have used a por-tion of it to repair the pool heater, with the remaining monies to be used to make repairs and improvements after the pool is shut down this fall.

Most churches receive the Each Church Helps One (ECHO) offering by using milk jugs and asking individuals to put change into it. This year, the ECHO offering to-taled almost $4,100, and was used in its entirety to help (along with the monies given to the Camper Assistance Program) 161 campers get to camp that would not have been able to come otherwise.

As some of our equipment ages and draws nearer to the end of its usability at camp, we would like to ask our Camp Judson family to help us by being on the lookout for the following items: Tractor Lawn mowers Self-igniting propane torch If you or someone you know has one of these items and might be willing to donate it (gifts are tax de-ductible) or interested in selling it to us for an afford-able price, please contact the camp office. Thanks to the donor who found and paid for sailboats that were listed on our previous wish list, and thanks to the donors who heard of our need for a trailer for John and Joann Bennett (our maintenance supervisor and his wife) and gave the money to purchase one!

YOUR CAMP NEEDS

ITEMS GIVEN TO THE JBC STORE 2010 Many items were donated to the Judson Camp Store this sum

mer. From all kinds of candy, crackers, drinks, personal items, and even silly bands (which were a big hit and hard to find and keep stocked in the store). Thank you to everyone and every church that took the time to collect all these items and then deliver them to the store.

Judson 2020 This fall we will be beginning to seek to discern God's dreams for the Camp Judson ministry and de-velop a plan to work toward those dreams over the next ten years. We would ask that you would pray for the board of commissioners and other camp lead-ers as we go through this process. If you have ideas or feedback you would like to share, please feel free to contact us.

Addition to Manager's House Construction is underway on the addition to the man-ager's home. As of September 9, the foundation and framing are complete and the addition is enclosed.

When completed, the addition will add a new master bedroom, walk-in closet, bathroom, a laundry room and a utility closet.

We are in need of volunteers to help with the comple-tion of the interior phases of the project. If you have experience with things like: siding, soffit/facia, land-scaping/seeding, wiring, insulation, drywall/finishing, painting, trim, carpet, or bath tiling and you would like to volunteer or if you would like to make a donation (of finances, services, or materials) to help complete the project, please contact the camp office at 814-922-3834.

The Building Committee hopes to have the project completed by December 13th.

LET’S GET (RE)CONNECTED! Have you ever wondered what happened to a friend you met at Judson? As you know, the friendships formed through experiences at camp are special, but unfortunately as time passes people lose touch with one another. Because of these special connections, we want to develop a Camp Judson Alumni and Friends Association for past staff, campers, and volunteers as well as friends of Judson. The purpose of the group would be to help to maintain per-sonal connections between staff, campers, volunteers, and friends of the camp, and to keep people connected to Judson even as they may move on from camping, serving at camp, or out of Judson's established church constituency. To get this effort underway, we are looking to form a team of 10 to 20 individuals from various periods in the camp's ministry who are passionate about Judson and its ministry and would be willing to help us reconnect with our alumni and friends. If you would like to volunteer to help us get the Camp Judson Alumni and Friends Association off the ground, please contact the camp office.

Orange and green construction paper Scissors

White glue Water Pumpkin pie spice Paintbrush

Here’s What You’ll Need:

WHY DON'T YOU BRING YOUR CHURCH GROUP - ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS, YOUTH GROUP, AFTER SCHOOL GROUP , YOUR QUILTERS, YOUR SCRPBOOKERS, YOUR YOUNG MOTHERS,

YOUR YOUNG COUPLES, WHATEVER GROUP YOU HAVE ,TO JUDSON FOR A RETREAT IN 2011!!

CALL US 814-922-3834 OR EMAIL [email protected]. FOR DETAILS.

1. First, cut out a pumpkin. Cut a large circle from the orange construction paper. If you need help cutting out the right shape, you can trace a plate, or you can sketch out the shape and cut along the lines. 2. Cut a small rectangle from the green con-struction paper. This will be the stem. Glue the green rectangle to the orange circle to create a pumpkin. 3. Now it’s time to make your scented paint! Measure equal parts white glue and water. Stir the two ingredients together until the mixture is smooth. 4. Next, open the container of pumpkin pie spice. Liberally sprinkle the spice over the glue and water mixture and stir again. 5. Use a paintbrush and cover every inch of the paper pumpkin with the scented paint. When the paint dries, it'll be shiny and have a delightfully grainy texture from the added spice. And it'll even smell like pumpkin pie!

Making this scented pumpkin will make your house smell like fall when Mom’s baking pies!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
