I pointed out this past Sun- day morning that there are some Bible topics that are complicated because the Lord did not give as much information that we seem to need. I think we will agree, however, that in those areas that matter, the Lord has given us enough information so that we may draw the proper conclusions. The Lord in His revealed Word states, The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may ob- serve all the words of this lawDeuteronomy 29:29. The Lord has revealed enough so that we may do His Will on earth and be blessed by Him for doing so. Mark Twain said, It is not the things in the Bible that I dont understand that trouble me, but the things I do understand!I agree with Mr. Twain. In fact, I believe our greatest concern should not be understanding obscure Bible passages, but properly obeying those that are easily understood. Why did Eve eat from the forbidden fruit? Was it because she was ignorant of the consequences for doing so? Was it because Gods Word was too complicated to understand? No! It was her unwillingness to obey the Lord that created her problem. The great apostle Paul, describing the sad condition that existed in the world at that time, pointed out why humankind had become so utterly sinful. He said, And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a de- praved mind, to do those things which are not proper (Romans 1:28). Ignorance was not the problem, but an unwillingness to obey Gods Word. Most people will acknowledge that even those who are considered faithful church members are sometimes disobedient to Gods Holy Word. At times we all fail to live up to what we know is expected of Christian men and women. James reminded Christians, But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who de- lude themselves(James 1:22). By the way, James was writing to Christians. It is good to know Gods Will, but it is those who know (hear) Gods Word and obey Gods Word that will be blessed. (James 1:25). Continued inside . . . “But Prove Yourselves Doers of the Word”

Do you agree that as church members/Christians, the great challenge before us as Christians is constantly living an obedient Christian life? I pointed out this past Sun-day morning that there are some Bible topics that are complicated because the Lord did not give as much information that we seem to need. I think we will agree, however, that in those areas that matter, the Lord has given us enough information so that we may draw the proper conclusions. The Lord has revealed enough so that we may do His Will on earth and be blessed by Him for doing so. Mark Twain said, “It is not the things in the Bible that I don’t understand that trouble me, but the things I do understand!” I agree with Mr. Twain. In fact, I believe our greatest concern should not be understanding obscure Bible passages, but properly obeying those that are easily understood. Why did Eve eat from the forbidden fruit? Was it because she was ignorant of the consequences for doing so? Was it because God’s Word was too complicated to understand? No! It was her unwillingness to obey the Lord that created her problem. Continued from inside . . .

In Wednesday night Bible class we dis-cussed a passage from Genesis 4. Cain, according to Scripture, was contemplating murdering his brother. The Lord said to him, “If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it” (Genesis 4:7). Cain was in a position to take charge of the situation, to master it. Sad to say, he disregarded what he knew was the right thing to do. As Christian men and women, we too at times have a tendency to disregard what we know is God’s Will for our lives. I confess my own struggles to obey God’s Word. We must remember, however, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His com-mandments; and His commandments are not griev-ous” (I John 5:3 KJV). John reminds us that God’s commandments are not grief-causing. In fact, it is our disobedience to God’s commandments that is grief-causing. (Consider all those you read about in Scrip-ture, both Old and New Testament, such as Adam and Eve, Saul and King David, and you will clearly see how breaking God’s commandments created terrible consequences for them and for others.) Therefore, let us commit ourselves to living our lives according to God’s Revealed Word. Let us remind ourselves that the Word will bless us for our obedience to His Will. “How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways” (Psalm 128:1).
