5 SOUTH PALM BEACH COUNTY INTERGROUP A.A. NEWSLETTER
INTERGROUP BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES
Chair: Elizabeth B. Opened the meeting at 7pm with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer. Chair called for approval of last month’s minutes. Cheryl S. suggested the January 2020 minutes be amended to include and correct information that was reported in the original minutes. The amended minutes will be sent to the body to be approved at the next month’s meeting; and she also requested the Inventory Min-utes/Notes be signed and resent. Elizabeth reminded everyone the Intergroup Anniversary Picnic will be held on April 19 at John Prince Park. Jayne L. is chairing and needs volunteers. She will hold a picnic planning meeting at the Intergroup office at 11:30am on March 1 at Intergroup Office and asked for help. The Archivist Chair position is open; please announce to your groups. We will have elections at the next Business meeting. Elizabeth also reported that Intergroup is looking for a part-time paid assistant.
Cheryl S. brought up the question as to why Intergroup posted an ad on Craigslist for a full time office manager, and noted that Pam T. has been working in the office since April 2019 in the Office Manager’s capacity, and as full time office manager since beginning of December 2019. Cheryl S. suggested that Pam T. be hired as the official Office Manager and a majority of the members supported this.
Treasurer: John S. absent with notice and sent his report. The January financials are in the SCAAN. A good month – 2019 Alcathon donation from Central House included. If anyone has experience in Quick-Books with credit card transactions and/or accounts payable and has a few minutes to answer a couple questions, please contact Pam at the Intergroup Office. There was a question regarding the donation from the group that held the 2019 Gratitude Dinner. The donation was listed under the group’s contribution rather than under Fundraising Income as it was not an Intergroup function.
New Group Reps: Boca Step & Traditions- Kathryn C; Tuesday’s Men’s Solution-Ryan A; Sobriety for Breakfast- Jeffery S; Life is Good- Macy F; Back to Basic’s-Stephan W.; Carry the Message- Shelo R.; Just before Dawn- Thomas K; Cheer Up- Keith L.; Men’s Spiritual Big Book Study- Matthew D.; Safe Haven- Aden Z.; Acceptance is the Answer- Isaac R.
Vice Chair: George S. welcomed all the Committee Chairs and the new Group Representatives and mentioned that if they needed any assistance in performing their duties to contact him at [email protected]. He also requested each group keep all Intergroup information in their 3-ring binders. As a reminder and in the spirit of rotation, current Chair terms end July 31, 2020 and new elections will be held at the July 2020 Business meeting.
Secretary: Present; no report.
Office Manager: Pam T. 5 new volunteers, 28 first calls to AA, with 12 of those calls turning into 12th Step calls; and 2 of the 12th step calls were walk-ins!! Need Bridge The Gap contacts for local callers, District 8 requested a bid for their New GSR’s Welcome Packets which will be provided. District 8 will have a table for our Intergroup at the April Quarterly in Boca Raton. We will need volunteers at the table to display and sell AAWS new book “Our Great Responsibility.” Anyone willing to help out on Saturday April 4th between 8am and 6pm, please contact Pam at Intergroup. We can also have our W&W and SCAANs to hand out, and other AAWS literature if we would like to do so. SPBC Intergroup will be having a St. Patty’s Day Contest for all who visit our office until March 17. Hidden Treasures in the Pots ’O’ Gold!

woman…she decided not to go with it.
Bridge the Gap (M): Maverick C. Absent with notice.
General Service Liaison: Shelly O. Absent with notice and sent report: April Area Quarterly held in Boca and are still looking for volunteers to help. One motion was voted on: That district 8’s Literature Committee use @250.50 to purchase 75 Service Manuals for new General Service Representatives. Motion Passed. Background: due to back log and change in the General Service Office’s database system, new GSRs are not receiving their Welcome Kits in a timely manner. Although each piece of literature in the kit is critical, the Service Manual is literature that is frequently used as a source and contains the most information in one place. Next District meeting is held March 8 at the Triangle Club at 4pm to go over agenda items for the 70th General Service Conference.
Group Information: Kristel M. reported she is stepping down as she has moved to Miami. She suggested two-person committee chairs for this committee.
H&I (M): OPEN
H&I (W): OPEN
N. Palm Beach Intergroup Liaison: John M. Reported 1) their alternate chair position is still vacant. 2) Several concerns were brought to Intergroup regarding treatment centers to pay an annual fee in order for their clients to attend meetings at the Oasis Club. The result being that NPBC Intergroup has no opinion on decisions made by a private business, even if they rent space to AA meetings. 3) Still working on setting a date for the annual Old Timers Ice Cream social to be held in April. Open to all and anyone with 35 years or more to contact Intergroup.
Public Information (M): Stephen D. unexcused absence; No report. Elizabeth asked Vice Chair to reach out to him.
Public Information (W): Debra M. Not able to attend and sent her report: Continue reaching out to Schools and groups to inform on the resources of SPBC Inter-group. Objectives or Tasks accomplished: successfully promoted the benefits of Intergroup volunteering. Will
continue to provide information on Intergroup volunteer program and reaching out to schools and groups to inform on the resources of SPBC Intergroup.
SCAAN: Jennifer F. Not able to attend and sent her report: Hope all are enjoying our new SCAAN format and we have an incredible graphic designer who is donating his time and expertise for our publication. Please take SCAANs to your home groups
Phone Relay: Amy M. March, April, May, June and November are filled; July, August, Sept, Oct and December are still open. Service positions are for only one month. Amy requested groups taking the phone try to log the calls received; and she will look into creating a “Log Sheet” to record the various types of calls coming into the After Hours phone each month.
Where & When: Melissa M. Objective for the month was to ask all reps to check the W&W and Website for any errors or omissions of missing additions – and to notify the Intergroup office before March 6th. Melissa announced she is stepping down and this position is open.
12 Step (M): OPEN
12 Step (W): Jayne L.
Website: Jason P. not present, no report.
Old Business: Picnic Chair: Jayne L. reported that the Picnic will be held on April 19th at John Prince Park. Tickets will be $10 and Children under 12 Free. Tickets being sold by Group Reps and available at the Intergroup Office. Big Books for Beginners will be sold for cost @ $8.00. Volunteers needed.
Service Sponsorship: Elizabeth brought up again that Intergroup is compiling a list of people willing to be Service Sponsors. Please contact the Intergroup office if you are interested.
Addendum to January 29, 2020 Business Meeting Minutes: Service Sponsorship: Chris M. brought up the topic on service sponsorship. He noted that Tom W., the In-tergroup Inventory facilitator suggested that

committee chairs have service sponsors. He made a motion to require this, but John S. stated that the Intergroup By-laws regarding committee chair requirements would have to be changed first. Chris M. withdrew his motion. He then suggested that a list of volunteer service sponsors be compiled and put in the new committee chair and Intergroup Rep packages along with the contact information of previous commit-tee chairs. John M. suggested that this be brought back to the homegroups. Pam T., office manager noted that the Concepts checklist could also be included as a resource. Elizabeth suggested contacting the Intergroup office if you have experience with service and would be willing to be a service sponsor.
Diane S., Secretary, was not present at the meeting. The minutes were recorded by Tamara S.; compiled and submitted by Cheryl S.

A.A. CALENDAR OF EVENTS
2020 Florida State Convention (Update)For the health, safety and convenience of our fellowship, the 2020 Florida State Convention in Jacksonville has been rescheduled for August 5-8, 2021. It will still be held at the Hyatt. The hotel has cancelled all room reservations and we will be receiving a link soon that will allow you to make room reservations for next year. If you had registered for the convention, purchased banquets, ice cream social, etc., they will all be honored next year.
Should you not be able to attend the convention in 2021, and require a refund, we kindly ask that you “pay it forward” by donating your registration to our scholarship fund which will enable a mem-ber of our fellowship to attend who otherwise couldn’t afford to go. If you are unable to donate your registration and need a cash/credit refund you will have until June 13, 2020 to make that
request to [email protected]. There will be a $5.35 processing fee. Donations to the scholarship fund can also be made by contacting [email protected]. All other registra-tions not refunded/donated will be rolled over to 2021.
This was a tough decision; we were ready to host a great convention, but God had other plans. We look forward to a FANTASTIC convention next year and seeing all of you then. More informa-tion to come in the next several weeks relative to updating the website, our flyers, etc. and getting those who weren’t already registered, registered for August 5-8, 2021. Thank you for your patience while we got all of this worked out with the hotel, as they were incredibly accommodating.

2020 International ConventionJuly 2-5, Detroit, Michigan: Canceled Announce-ment by Michele Grinberg, Chair of the General Service Board of A.A.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 International Convention in Detroit, July 2-5. We know that this is a disap-pointment to our Fellowship, as every five years we look forward to celebrating sobriety, the Alco-holics Anonymous program of hope and recov-ery, and meeting dear friends, old and new, from around the world.
This is not a decision that is taken lightly. However, because of our numerous concerns related to the health and safety of our attendees, especially if 50,000 of us were to gather in Detroit in early July, we are confident it is the correct decision at this time. It has become clear that proceeding with a Convention of this magnitude in Michigan at that time is an unacceptable safety risk because of the uncertainty of the disease spread and contain-
ment. These are unprecedented times, impacting travel possibilities and requiring restrictions on large mass gatherings. For all of us, the health and well-being of our community comes first.
While the decision to cancel our International Convention is a difficult one, it is important to re-member that Alcoholics Anonymous is not a place or an event; it exists in the hearts, minds and help freely offered. A.A. groups and members across the globe continue to focus on our primary pur-pose of carrying a message of hope and recovery; and with our shared code of love and tolerance, may we continue for so long as we are needed.
