HOLIDAY PARTY TIME By Jay Clayton Wilson
Long dresses and heels, blazers and
ties, beauty and chivalry – the STC
Holiday Party was a spectacular
evening in the elegant venue offered
by the Vistas Dining Room.
SaddleBrooke One decorated the
clubhouse and landscaping in a
manner that would set a cultural
standard for the Tucson desert.
Colorful Christmas lights sparkled
from every direction while a beautiful
Christmas tree and Menorah display
set the joyous atmosphere of the this
happy season.
Chef Dave masterfully prepared
stations of New York Sirloin Roast, as
well as chicken breasts smothered in
artichoke-tomato cream sauce,
Mediterranean bowtie pesto,
Bolognaise penne with sweet Italian
sausage, wild mushroom risotto,
Madera wine and the works. He
celebrated his gem with a
marvelously rich chocolate cake, thick
with icing just the way we like it.
There is something so special
about the Christmas season. Friends
of all faiths seem closer. Sweethearts
seem sweeter, Husbands and wives
seem more firmly bound in the caring
they share with each other. No place
was that more evident than on the
dance floor after dinner. Waltzes
were more elegant, the two step
tunes were lovelier, and the DJs
blended them sensibly with high

energy rock ‘n roll. It was interesting
to note that the very first notes of a
waltz magnetically drew everyone to
the floor with a whirl of expectation
that did not go unsatisfied. Then, with
the area crowded by those who held
each other close, rock ‘n roll guitars
and drums suddenly reminded
everyone that we are an active
community whose remembrances
are returned to the dynamics of fast
paced music at the hand of Gus
D’Oldie and Ms. Gina. And we were off
again dancing to the music. STC
dances tie a knot in that long tendril
of aging that reaches for us.
Nearly 200 STC members and
their guests initiated the season this
way. It was one of STC’s most
successful, enjoyable evenings. The
entire throng was happy to be among
friends to enjoy health and
happiness. The STC Holiday Party sat
the tone as 2016 edged toward to an
awesome close. STC will share those
final moments with a mixed doubles
event on Saturday, December 31.
Until then all STC members and the
entire SaddleBrooke community
thank Debbie McGeehan and Mary
Whitehead and all those members
who volunteered to bring us together
to glow with one another and add this
beautiful Christmas party to our
precious memories.

What better way than to spend
the day at the SaddleBrooke Tennis
Center! It was a full afternoon on
Sunday, November 6th for the
members of our tennis club.
The day started off with Cheri
Megli coming from Chandler with
her “Tennis Cabana.” This is the 4th
annual year she has come to
SaddleBrooke to provide a shopping
opportunity for tennis and
pickleball players. She brought
mostly woman’s clothes and
The STC Times 3
accessories as the men seem to
enjoy hitting tennis balls more than
shopping!
Cheri brought an assortment of
tennis racquets for members to try
if they were interested in upgrading
to a new racquet. Thanks to two of
our SaddleBrooke tennis pros, Chris
Madsen and Gene McGeehan who
assisted members with the demo on
courts 7 and 8 from 12:00-2:00.
The afternoon consisted of 2
sessions of fun mixed doubles
tennis play called “Member Mingle”.
Judie Renfrow and Nancy Hunter
ran this event. They put men’s
names in one box and woman’s in the
other and pulled names randomly
for assignment to a court. Everyone
played 30 minutes and when the
horn was sounded, winners moved
clockwise and played for another 30
minutes, etc. until 2 hours were up.
Levels were mixed and everyone
said they had fun and met new
players! Having 2 sessions gave
members time to shop, demo
racquets and just relax on the patio
with snacks and refreshments.
Doug Wagers, The Window
Wizard, volunteered his time and his
Louisiana Cooker for our potluck
at 4:00. He cooked up at least 140
hotdogs and put them in his roaster
with his special marinade. There
were about 80 attendees and
everyone seemed to enjoy them as
only a few were left to bring to the
firehouse. Members brought baked
beans, chili, salads and all kinds of
good desserts.
Thanks to the 28 volunteers who
made this event possible and to all
the members of the SaddleBrooke
Tennis Club. It was a beautiful day
and another memorable STC social!
NOTE: January Scramble OP days will be Tuesday the
17th for the men & Friday the 20th for the ladies.

Tennis Christmas Tree By Debbie McGeehan
Thanks to Don and Dolly Pettet (past members of the STC)
for their generous donation of tennis Christmas tree ornaments. These adorable Christmas ornaments have
memories and were collected over the years, many given as gifts. They no longer put up a tree and wanted to share them
with the STC. We will cherish and display them on the
SaddleBrooke Tennis Tree for years to come. Thanks to the Pettet’s for their thoughtfulness and generosity!
