Drink Your Way to Better Health Drinking more water is one simple thing we can all do to improve our overall health. On average, it is recommended that we drink at least 64 oz. of water each day. For those of us who participate in exercise that breaks a sweat, we should be drinking even more. There are several proven health benefits to staying hydrated. Some of these include: Keep your body functioning properly: Did you know that our bodies are made up of approximately 60 percent water? If we are dehydrated, it is difficult for our bodies to work the way they are meant to. Prevent muscle fatigue: If our cells don’t have enough fluid, electrolytes shrink and our muscles don’t function at their best. This leads to feelings of fatigue and a decrease in performance levels. Better looking skin: Skin is one of the most noticeable parts of our body that is affected by dehydration. Adequate water intake allows our skin cells to stay plump and full. Keeping our bodies properly hydrated equates to a healthier looking complexion. Minimize your chances of developing medical problems: Kidney stones, urinary tract infections and constipation can all be caused by dehydration. The chance of suffering from these inconveniences is greatly reduced by staying on top of your water consumption. New Floorplan & Machines Coming to Fitness Floor Later this summer, the fitness floor will be undergoing some exciting changes! Slated to take place in late July or early August, we will be receiving some new exercise machines. Once the new machines arrive, the layout of the entire fitness floor will be moved around to create a more convenient flow. Check out the new design below. Main St. in Kalamazoo, the new walk-in clinic offers convenient and affordable healthcare for minor conditions and symptoms. Lab services are also available. Join us on Monday, June 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. for a grand opening celebration. You can tour the new facility and learn about the services that will be provided.

Meet Brian WrightAs a husband and father of two young daughters, Brian Wright is always on the go. As an employee at Bronson

Methodist Hospital, Brian is excited that the convenient new downtown BAC location allows him to get in regular workouts during his lunch breaks!

“I visit the downtown BAC at least four days a week,” Brian explains. “If the weather is nice, I will often run outside and then use the locker room to shower and get

back to work. If the weather isn’t great, I will run on the treadmill or stretch using the stretching tables, foam rollers or resistance bands.” When he has time to get to the main location at The Groves, Brian enjoys taking advantage of the sauna and steam room.

Becoming a member of the BAC has helped improve Brian’s overall health and allowed him to better keep up with his family. “After starting to workout at the BAC, I have become a ‘runner’,” Brian says. “My wife has been a runner since before we met and she inspired me to become healthier.” Since starting to run in August, Brian has competed in a few 5k and 10k races. On May 28, he completed his first half marathon – The Bayshore Half Marathon in Traverse City!

In his spare time, you can find Brian spending time with his family – playing with his daughters and visiting with his and his wife’s families, playing hockey or just relaxing!

Brian Hoff, Group-X InstructorBrian, a Group-X instructor for Tai Chi, has been a part of the BAC team since 2005. Coming onboard as a Tai Chi instructor at the BAC was an easy transition for Brian, as it is one of his favorite hobbies and he has been practicing the art for several years.

“I credit my skills in Tai Chi and Chi Kung to my very patient teachers over

the years,” Brian shares. “My practice is something that I feel has transformed both my body and the way that I approach others in life.”

Although he had not always seen himself becoming an instructor, Brian finds the work that he does at the BAC to be very rewarding. “I love working at the BAC because I am given the opportunity to work with people who are making healthy lifestyle choices, and I am able to help people explore ways to get their body into better balance and overall health,” he says.

Along with teaching at the BAC, Brian works at Pfizer. When he isn’t busy working, he enjoys being outdoors. He likes to hike, bike and take occasional trips to the beach. He also enjoys listening to Hawaiian music because it brings him joyful memories of his mother who was born in Honolulu.

Congratulations, Brian, on being named the BAC’s June MVP. Keep up the great work! •

Blood Drive with Michigan BloodDid you know that approximately every two seconds someone needs blood? Be someone who saves lives! Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at miblood.org, but walk-ins are always welcome. Wednesday, June 222 to 6 p.m.BAC conference room 2

Rehab Parking Lot ReminderAt the BAC, we have a special facility for rehabilitation services, like physical and occupational therapy. The people who use the rehab services at the BAC are recovering from recent surgeries, illnesses and injuries. Because these patients are often suffering from limited mobility, it is important that they are able to park close to the building. In order to meet the needs of our rehabilitation visitors, the BAC has reserved parking spots in the parking lot located on the southeast side of the building. If you are not a patient of Bronson Rehabilitation Services, please refrain from parking in these spots. Our rehab patients will thank you!
