  • For our Assembly we sang the songs Botany Bay and Waltzing Matilda.

We had fun making the video to go with Waltzing Matilda.

We are starting to learn about the early settlement of Australia.

Did you know that Captain Cook landed in Botany Bay in 1770 on his

    ship HMS Endeavour?

Waltzing Matilda was written by Banjo Paterson and is Australias most

    well known bush ballad.

We all dressed up, some as convicts and some as swagmen.

On Friday 24 April, the year 6 classes and 20 year 5 students attended the Combined Schools ANZAC Parade and Service. Over 2000 students from schools throughout the region attended the event which involved marching down York Street followed by a ceremony in Peace Park to commemorate 100 years of ANZAC.

Congratulations to all students who represented Yakamia. Their behaviour was outstanding. Also a special mention must go to Olivia Steel who did a fantastic job reading an ANZAC poem as

    the Yakamia repre-sentative.

Well done to the Year 4 students of Room 25, Mrs

Stamp & Mrs Sandy on a fantastic assembly last

Friday. What a great Aussie treat!!

The Year 6 students of Room 22 will now host the

next assembly. The school looks forward to all

    family and friends attending

    Uniform

A reminder that our school uniform is green on

the bottom. Black is not a school colour. We

appreciate your support with this matter.

    School Voluntary Contributions

Have you paid your contributions for 2015?

    Schools Voluntary Contributions play an

important part in funding various resources and

programs to support classes with educational

    projects, around the school.

Wed love your support in paying ASAP!

    Jewellery and Valuables

A reminder that only watches and sleeper or stud

earrings are permitted to be worn at school. All

other jewellery is to be left at home

Remember to also leave valuable items, such as

really appreciate your support with this matter.

    Applications For Enrolment 2016

Applications for enrolment of children entering

    Kindergarten, Pre-Primary and those changing

schools for 2016, are now open. We would

forms by the end of Term 2.

    Raising a Confident Reader

Watching your child become a confident reader

and sharing the journey with them is a wonderful

experience. A large part of our everyday life

    depends on reading.

Helping your child to read will open their minds

to a whole range of topics.

There are many ways you can help your child

build their confidence and develop strong reading

skills every day. One of the easiest and most

valuable things you can do at home is to read to

your child and show them how much fun you can

    have when you read.

Discover simple ways to encourage your childs reading. For more information on how you can

help your child with reading view the resources

on the Schools & You website:

We are after donations of the following items:

tarps, overalls, safety helmets, big pieces of fabric, off cuts of carpets or mats, barrels,

wheels, crates, fishing nets or large nets, PVC pipe, bins and lids, walking frames, bits of foam e.g. pool noodles,

    tubes

Healthy eating - Tips for Parents

Go shopping with your children and allow them to choose the healthy foods

that they enjoy eating. For example, ask children to choose some of the fruit

    and vegetables.

Shop twice a week - fresher fruits, vegetables, breads and meats are more

likely to appeal to the whole family.

Buy in season - seasonal fruits and vegetables taste great, are better quality

and are better value for money.

Select small pieces of fruit - younger children prefer smaller pieces of fruit

as they are easier to handle.

Choose quality - try to avoid bruised fruit or vegetables.

Encourage variety - so that your child does not get bored with their food.

Next meeting Wednesday 10 June (Pre Primary area, room 43) at

    3.30pm.

A Disco will be held Thursday 4 Junewatch this space for more infor-

    mation.

White Polo Shirts are on special $19.00 each, available from the can-

teen. Winter uniforms can now be pre-ordered on-line or at the canteen,

    see Charmaine for details.

The Bookfair has found a new home, it is now on display in the music room which is at the back of the Hall
