Vol-3 Wales and the South West Airport Information Always make sure the light airfield scenery is at No.1 in the scenery library, failure to do this will lead to objects not showing. Ever thought about flying a microlight/ultralight, the freedom of flight, just jump into the aircraft and off we go. It’s much cheaper to get your Microlight licence and you can buy a secondhand aircraft for as little as £1500. The one thing you will have to brush up on though is your cross country navigation as you won’t be seeing many of those long Gray runways you are used to which you can be seen for miles, with these grass strips you will be surprised that you will find on many occasions that the field will simply disappear after take- off and you will find it very difficult to find again. Luckily for you I have placed a NDB (6 mile radius) on all my strips so even if the aircraft doesn't possess a ADF you can see them on your GPS. You may also be used to long runways you can land on easily, then these will be a real eye opener, a lot of the strips are quite short, maybe you have to approach over a high hill and drop down onto the field did I also mention you'll find the fields anything but smooth so make sure you turn off your `Crash Detect’. I have also added the QFE of each airfield.

Vol-3 Wales and the South West Airport Information

Always make sure the light airfield scenery is at No.1 in the scenery library, failure to do this will lead to objects not showing.

Ever thought about flying a microlight/ultralight, the freedom of flight, just jump into the aircraft and off we go. It’s much cheaper to get your Microlight licence and you can buy a secondhand aircraft for as little as £1500. The one thing you will have to brush up on though is your cross country navigation as you won’t be seeing many of those long Gray runways you are used to which youcan be seen for miles, with these grass strips you will be surprised thatyou will find on many occasions that the field will simply disappear after take-off and you will find it very difficult to find again.

On many of the fields you will be able to re-fuel your aircraft just look for the Petrol cans below and the `F' on the field description.

Remember to set your `Mesh Terrain’ to 10Mtrs. Below is an example of ScenerySettings which work

The area covered in Vol-3 is from N53 to South 49, East 2 and West 5. All approximately.Although the airfields have been designed with microlights in mind many can beused by general GA.This scenery has been designed to work alongside Justflight’s Vol-3 VFR Scenery and as enjoyable well without it.Also recommended is Justflight’s Revolution X as this programme replaces all the autogen scenery removed by the VFR Scenery.

Allensmore, Hereford Alt; 300ft QNH 1004 NDB-200.1Length- 550m N/S

Situated right next to the main N/S railway line and about 5nm S/W o f the town of Hereford. Situated about 1 mile north is a Allensmore Nurseries with some large greenhouses.A long smooth runway which is long enough for most GA aircraft.

Allensmore Overhead

Belle Vue, Devon. Alt;675ft QNH 990 NDB 200.1 Runway 625m 08/26

Situated approx 2nm NNE from the town of Great Torrington it is quite high at nearly 700ft, the runway is long and smooth with a slight dip in the middle. Easily found due to the large mast (1193ft) a few hundred feet to the North of the field.

Belle Vue Overhead

Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons. Alt; 980ft, QNH-980 NDB 200.9 Runway 13/31 370Mtrs

A brilliant place to fly to although in reality you can’t land powered aircraft here. Situated just North of the Brecon Beacons and at nearly 1000ft it’s a great flight but the runway is fairly short.

Black Mountains Overhead

Bolt Head, South DevonAlt:430ft QNH 998 NDB-203.00 Runway 10/28 660Mtrs.

Another great runway to land on situated on the South coast of Devon near to the town of Salcombe, an ideal airfield when touring along the coast. Slopes up to the North slightly. The Large grey building is supposed to be a nuclear bunker. A large radio mast will help you find it.

Breidden Strip, Shrewsbury.

Alt;200ft QNH NDB-200.1 Runway N/S 500Mtrs

A nice long level strip, not particularly easy to find. It’s next tothe A483 approx 2nm south of the village of Arddleen. The Breidden Hills are 2nm to the East

Chirk, Clwyd Alt;450Ft, QNH-1005, NDB-200.1 Runway 01/19 500m 15/33 600m

Fifteen miles Northof Breidden is Chirk,a very busy field, notonly aircraft but carboot sales so makesure you choose theright day (notSunday). BrianLockyear’s GuideBook say there are 2runways but inreality you can justland anywhere onthe field. Slopesdown to the North.

Curry Rivel, Somerset

Alt;135ft QNH-1008 NDB-200.1 Runway 06/24 760Mtrs.

The field is situated ½ mile SSE of the village of Curry Rivel in Somerset and 6nm’s South ofWestnzoyland. The field is long enough to accept regular GA. It has a slight adverse camber so be careful.

Eggesford, Devon Alt;515Ft QNH NDB-200.1 Runway- 11/29 / 630Mtrs.

The airfield is situated in Devon and has a large hump in the middle but should be okay for most aircraft. Not an easy strip to find.

Gorrell-Farm, Devon Alt;520ft QNH-996 NDB- 200.5 Runway N/S 415Mtrs;

Again this airfield is located in Devon and runs slightly uphill to the North so bear that in mind. Not a particularly easy field to spot but is approx;2.5nm North of the village of Bradworthy

Halwell, Devon Alt;650Ft QNH-993 NDB-200.5 Runway E/W 480Mtrs

Again located in Devon. The field rises slightly to the North but is plenty long enough for most GA. Fuel is available. The strip is located right next to the A3122 and is ½ mile East of the village of Halwell.

Lane-Farm, Radnorshire. Alt;830Ft QNH-985 NDB-200.00 Runway 06/24 600Mtrs

Located in Radnorshire approx; 3nm NNW of the town of Hay on Wye. A nice long reasonably smooth strip. Quite high at just over 800ft.

Long-Life-Farm, Carmarthenshire. Alt;720Ft QNH-988 NDB-200.9 Runway- 16/34 390Mtrs

A very interesting field, not easy to spot at all mainly because it doesn’t get used very much due to the local council objecting but that doesn’t bother us armchairpilots. Located in Carmarthenshire approx;9nm @ 100º from the town of Carmarthen. The strip runs downhill on 34 quite steeply so I recommend landing on 16 and departing on 34 no matter what the wind direction.

Lower-Botrea, CornwallAlt;460Ft; QNH-996 NDB-200.1 Runway- 16/34 /06/24 400Mtrs/480Mtrs

Located just 2nm @ 104º from St.Just you have a choice of two runways here

but 06/24 is slightly longer but is slightly obstructed by trees on 24. Either one is nice and smooth. Not easy to find but is approx;1nm from Drift Reservoir.

Porth Towan, Cornwall. Alt;340Ft QNH-1001 NDB-202.00 Runway- 03/21 480Mtrs

Located ½ mile from the West Coast of Cornwall ½ East of the village of Eastcliff, a nice long flat smooth field with plenty of parking.

Rhos-Y-Gylwen, Pembrokshire Alt;400Ft QNH-999 NDB-200.1 Runway- 08/26 800Mtrs

A difficult field to find. Situated just inland of the Pembrokeshire coast and approx;3nm @154º from the town Carmarthen. Make sure you stick to the runway as it’s a bit bumpy off it.

Rosemarket, Pembrokeshire Alt;165Ft QNH-1007 NDB-200.1 Runway 09/27 560Mtrs

Again situated in Pembrokeshire and located on a very posh golf course so watch out for flying balls! Nice long field which slopes upward slightly to the 09 end.

Sherlowe, Shropshire Alt;210Ft QNH- NDB- Runway N/S 210Mtrs 14/32 220Mtrs

This field is in Shropshire and is very near to RAF Shawbury, a large helicopter training base.In fact some of the helicopters actually land here sometimes while on training exercises. The field is much shorter than in previous years due to the farmer wanting some of his land back. A bit short for Cessna’s but plenty long enough for microlight’s. Approx;5nm East of the town of Shawbury. Fuel available.

Talybont, North Wales. Alt;40Ft QNH-1012 NDB-200.1 Runway- 03/21 450Mtrs

Situated in North-Wales just North of the town of Tywyn, a very exciting field to land on especially after flying along the coast. Relatively easy to find, just follow the Dysynni River inland. A nice long smooth runway. One of my favourite fields.

Westonzoyland, Somerset Alt;33Ft QNH-1012 NDB-200.9 Runway 16/34 500Mtrs 04/22 500Mtrs

Situated on a large ex-RAF airifeld so there are plenty of strips to use and all very flat. Fuel is available.
