Shop Local. Give Local. Macon County Care Network recently witnessed the art of paying it
forward, at the Cash Mob Franklin! Macon Rental Co. played host to
the 21st
Cash Mob Franklin organized by Venture Local Franklin on
October 24th.
Cash Mob Franklin serves as an opportunity for the community to gather
in support of local businesses and with recent events has allowed the
chosen business to pay it forward by picking a charity of their choice, or
with this past Mob, two charities to support through the event!
Shop Local Macon Rental Co. is a locally owned and operated business in Franklin. They
have served the community for 35 years, providing quality service with power tool
and equipment rentals, sales and repair! Upon being voted as the next business to
be “mobbed”, Macon Rental chose to the spread the wealth to not one...but two
local charities: CareNet and The Nantahala Hiking Club!
Give Local Through ticket sales for a chainsaw raffle, Macon Rental raised $500 for programs
and services provided by CareNet. To give you an idea of how big of an impact
$500 is… the donation from Macon Rental will help ensure 100 school children
receive a much needed food resource (BackPack) for over the weekend!
Remember, when you invest in local businesses you’re investing in YOUR
community! This in turn allows for local support of organizations like CareNet to
carry out their Mission to end hunger in Macon County!

Wayah Insurance Helps Can Hunger
Franklin, NC, October 31st - Local business, Wayah Insurance Group partnered with local nonprofit, Macon County Care Network (CareNet), to provide a matching gift towards the Mission to end hunger here in our community. CareNet raised a total of $100 with a recent fundraiser, CareNet Can Hunger Cornhole, in which PUMPKINFEST attendees were challenged to land or sink as many bags as they could on a customary Cornhole board. “Truth is, partnering with local businesses like the group at Wayah Insurance allows our organization to not only raise awareness and proceeds surrounding the fight to end hunger - it also allows us to showcase the strength in working alongside great groups like the team at Wayah to ensure our message gets out there and promote the idea of ‘shop local - give local’...we are very supportive of our local businesses!” - Shaina Adkins, Executive Director—CareNet In 2013, CareNet distributed over 400,000 pounds of food through a varie-ty of food programs. One program being, the BackPack Program, distribut-ed over 18,000 meals to school children here in Macon County who have been identified as ‘food insecure’, currently 1 out of 3 children in Macon County have limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods. For more information on donating, partnering or volunteering with Care-Net, please contact us today!

Became a Board Member: 2009
Board Position:
Secretary, Executive Committee
Employment: Macon Bank,
VP/Director of Human Resources
I Became a Board of Director
Member Because: Initially I
became a Board Member at Care-
Net because I felt that I could make
an impact on the organization and
how it worked with my background
in Human Resources. My desire to
remain a Board Member has
changed over my years of service -
I have seen firsthand the impact that
CareNet has on the members of our
community, especially the children.
CareNet is not just a food pantry - it
is a soup kitchen that feeds the
hungry, it is a bag of food to feed
the children over the weekends and
summer, it is a resource for folks to
keep their power turned on, on cold
winter nights, it is clothing and coats
for those without, it is a spiritual
ministry that shows that kindness to
others is an obligation, and so much
more….

Food Pantry Through the support of our beloved community, CareNet distributed over
40,000 lbs. of food to 493 families in need during the month of October.
We are in continued need of both perishable and non-perishable food
donations to support the pantry and our efforts to assist families here in
Macon County with food security.
The following items are of urgent need to continue providing food
resources within the community:
