1. Getting Started

Direct E-mail offers you live access to Internet e-mails (POP3 and SPOP) wherever you are.You do not have to do anything to receive your messages. Thanks to Direct E-mail technology you will receive them immediately.

Step 1: Activating the service

Activate your Direct E-mail account using the procedure explained below. Ensure that your mobile telephone has Internet access. Your mobilephone provider can give you details for setting up an Internet connection.

An SMS is sent to your mobile in confirmation:

Proximus info: your Direct E-mail service has been activated. For installation please download the required software at the WAP site:http://push.proximus.be. Thank you.

Step 2: Configuration settings

Before proceeding to the installation, you must request the network parameters. Call Proximus Customer Service and ask for the PushE-mail parameters. You will receive a reply by SMS. When you open this SMS, you are asked to enter a PIN code. Enter "1234" and OK.

You will then have access to the content of the SMS:

Follow the instructions and do NOT use the default settings.

Now your mobile is ready for the installation.

Step 3: Registering your Direct E-mail account

Before visiting the WAP site you must create a “bookmark” for the Direct E-mail site. This will allow you to open the site with a singleclick, without always having to enter the WAP address.

In the WAP menu select Bookmark settings / Add Bookmark.

Set the following parameters:Name: Direct E-mailAddress: http://push.proximus.beAccess point: Direct E-mail

Save your new parameters. Your bookmark has been created.

Visit the address given in the SMS via WAP: http://push.proximus.be.

Your mobile makes the connection to the Direct E-mail WAP site and you will see the following page:

At the bottom of this page choose the language for the Direct E-mail software:Once you have selected the language, click on Register.

To continue read the Direct E-mail terms and conditions and click on Agree.

You have to enter your personal details in the following screens that are unique to the Direct E-mail application.

Enter the mobile number that will be linked to Direct E-mail:

Choose a password for the Direct E-mail application and confirm it.

Enter your first name and surname.

Select the security question that you will be asked if you should forget your password. Also enter the correct answer.

You must also give an e-mail address where we can send important messages.

Select Continue to set the e-mail addresses to be used with Direct E-mail.

Step 4: Setting the e-mail addresses

Enter your POP3 e-mail address and the corresponding password. Also enter the name to be shown in messages you send using yourmobile.

You can repeat this procedure to set multiple e-mail addresses for Direct E-mail. Note: only one e-mail address can be activated eachtime.

If the address you would like to add is not a POP3 address, the system may request additional information. This information can beobtained from your e-mail address provider.

Step 5: Downloading the Direct E-mail software

This step allows you to download the application that ensures the synchronisation between your mobile and your e-mail addresses.

Select “Direct E-mail Software” from the main menu.

Select Start installation

You can monitor the progress of the download at the top of the screen. Once the download has completed, a few installation screensfollow. Confirm the installation each time.

To continue, read the terms and conditions for end users and accept them.

Once the installation is complete, your mobile will update the files and start the application. This may take a few minutes.

Step 6: Activating Direct E-mail and synchronising e-mail

To activate the application and to retrieve your e-mails on your mobile, you must enter your mobile number and the password youchose at the beginning of the procedure.

Once this data has been entered, the connection is made and your inbox is synchronised. Your e-mails are filed in the Messages / E-mails menu.

You can check the status of your service at any time. Select Direct E-mail in the Application Menu.

The following information is given in the status screen:The status of the network connectionThe date and time of the most recent network activity

You can switch between the Status and Account tabs using the left and right arrow keys. You can also set the number of e-mailsstored on the phone as an option by selecting the Account tab. If you set a limit for your Inbox and the number of e-mails exceedsthat limit, the oldest e-mails will automatically be removed from the phone and make place for the new e-mails. The minimum limitis 10. You can now start using Direct E-mail.

2. Direct E-mail functions

2.1 Managing e-mail

Once Direct E-mail is activated on your phone, you can read and send e-mails. The messages are listed chronologically by default, with themost recent message at the top.

1. Select Messages in the menu.

2. Select E-mail in the messages screen.

3. The Inbox of your Direct E-mail is displayed.

4. To read a message, select a message in the Inbox.

NOTE: Attachments to messages are shown with a paperclip.

6. Select Options to call up the following options: Retrieve message to retrieve the entire message if cut due to its length. Remove message to delete a message solely from the phone. Reply to send a reply to the sender’s message. You can also choose to send the sender and all the recipients of the message areply by selecting Reply All. Forward to send the message to new recipients. If the message has attachments, they will automatically be forwarded to therecipients. Delete message to delete a specific message either only from the phone or from the phone and the server.Home to return to the first screen of the messageEnd to go to the last screen of the message.Attachments to read the information in the attachments.Message details to read the header information of the e-mail.Add to contacts to add an address in the header to your contacts.Exit to return to the phone’s main menu.

2.2 Writing E-mail

To write a new e-mail: 1. Select Options in the Direct E-mail inbox .2. Select Create message..3. Select Direct E-mail.4. You can add a recipient manually in the field To: and Cc: .

5. Enter the subject and the text message.6. When you have finished, select Options.7. Select Send. The e-mail is sent immediately if the connection is active. Otherwise it is sent to the Outbox and sent when a new

connection is established.

2.3 Working with attachments

To read information in attachments:1. A paperclip is shown in messages with attachments. Open the message with the attachment.2. Select Options and then Attachments.3. Select Options and then Retrieve to read the attachments. If the corresponding application is installed on the phone, the attachments

will open.

To compose an e-mail and add an attachment:1. Compose a Direct E-mail message.2. Select Options and then Attachments.3. Select Options and then Insert.4. Select the attachment you want to instert.

2.4 Tips and tricks – surfing with WAP and Mobile Internet

In order to optimise surfing performance via WAP or Mobile Internet you must always switch off the Direct E-mail software before starting tosurf and switch it on again once you have finished.See chapter 3 of this guide for instructions about switching it on and off.

Note that the access point (APN) for Direct E-mail is installed automatically by the software of the same name so that you do not have toreset your phone yourself.

Most internet Service Providers give you the option of consulting your e-mails via their POP3 server. Sometimes it is necessary to activate thisoption. If there are any problems, you should contact your Internet Service Provider.

3. Summary of functions

E-mail messages are updated automatically. The data is stored on your mobile and made available even if no network connection is possible.Changes are sent to the server once a connection is re-established with the network. A list of additional functions of Direct E-mail are listedbelow. Their availability depends on your supplier.

Accessing and managing e-mailAccess to ten mailboxes via the Internet (POP3 and SPOP). Reading, deleting, replying to, forwarding and writing e-mail in real time.Replying to e-mail by calling the sender back with a single click of the mouse.Logging in to all mailboxes with a single password and checking information quickly thanks to a permanent login. Up to ten adapted pre-programmed reply messages.Use of an adapted signature for each of the mailboxes.

WarningsReceiving warnings when you receive e-mails. Filtering e-mail according to sender, priority or subject.Selecting between warnings of SMTP, SMPP, WAP Push or UP. Warnings can be switched on and off by the user.

Off lineLocal access to and management of e-mails and/or data on the Personal Information Manager (PIM) even when the mobile connection is not available.

4. Troubleshooting

Problem Solution

The e-mail address you entered is not recognised. Try to enter the e-mail address again. If the problem persists it ispossible the user does not have the correct type of e-mail account oruses an unknown Internet provider.

You have entered the incorrect password or it does not correspond tothe e-mail address.

Try entering the password again.

The mobile number you have entered is not recognised. Try entering the number again. If the problem persists it is possible thatthe number is not registered for the service. Please contact Proximuscustomer service on 0800 15 215.

It is not possible to connect to the Direct E-mail server (or Internet). Check your settings and try again.

The text content could not be retrieved. There is insufficient freespace on your phone.

Free up some memory on the phone and try again.

Unknown file format. The type of attachment is not recognised by the phone. If possibledownload the correct software onto the phone for this type of file.

The message is no longer on the server. You have tried to modify an e-mail that no longer exists. Themessage cannot be retrieved.

Your account has been cancelled. Contact Proximus customer serviceon 0800 15 215.

The connection has been made, but the account has been cancelledby Proximus customer service. Contact customer service on 0800 15215 to activate the account.

Invalid request. Try again. If the problem persists, you should contact Proximuscustomer service on 0800 15 215.

Account barred. Contact Proximus customer service on 0800 15 215.

Service not available. Possibly you have no signal. If the problem persists while you dohave a signal, contact Proximus customer service on 0800 15 215.

Account suspended. The period of the service or trial period may have expired or theremay be an outstanding payment due. Contact Proximus customerservice on 0800 15 215.

Upgrade required. Contact Proximus customer service on 0800 15 215.

Account details deleted. Contact Proximus customer service on 0800 15 215.

Payment required. Contact Proximus customer service on 0800 15 215.

MMSs are not being sent to the mobile. Disconnect from the Direct E-mail application. Once the MMSs havebeen received, reconnect.

5. Information about Direct E-mail

In the Info screen you can find information about the version of Direct E-mail and the list of patents.

To display this screen: 1. Select Direct E-mail in the main menu. On the Statusscreen, select Options.2. Select Info. The version information is displayed.3. Select Patents to read the information about the patents.

NOTE: If you completely reset the phone, the phone is then returned to the factory settings. The Direct E-mail application and all e-mails, calendar items and contacts are deleted. The installation and activation process must berepeated if the phone is completely reset.
