Ade0uate veterinary medical care is provided for all animals maintained for research' testing' training' oreducational purposes. 5he program of veterinary medical care is and monitored by a laboratory animalveterinarian 0ualified by training and eperience for this responsibility.

    5he program includes:

    1. &re0uent observation of animals by a person 0ualified to verify the health of each

    animal.

    2. (rovision of veterinary medical care for animals found to be ill or injured.

    3. Application of currently accepted measures of prophylais and therapy.

. Consideration for humane aspects of animal eperimentation such as the proper use ofanesthetics' analgesics' and tran0uili,ers and the implementation of such measures as directedby the responsible veterinarian to alleviate unacceptable levels of pain or distress to animalsubjects.

;f an animal is found and in need of veterinary medical care the animal careta%er will call the consult veterinarianor the on call veterinarian to determine the course of care the animal will need. An emergency call list for theveterinarian is located on the door of the office.
