Visualizing & Interpreting Robert Scoble’s“Principles of the 2010 Web”From the User Perspective

Objective:

• Interpret the principles of the “2010 web” in terms of the every day user experience to guide thinking on how marketing should live, communicate, and provide value online

1. It’s in Real Time

The lag between creation and consumption is down to zero. Also, we can share and spread the word about new topics incredibly fast.

2. It’s Mobile

Everything we can do on the web we can do on the new generation of smart phones. And we expect the same robust experience when we access via mobile.

3. It’s Decentralized

We no longer confine ourselves to one website or portal. We consume, create, and connect on numerous sites designed for specific purposes.

4. It’s in Pre-Made Blocks

We can grab content, embed it elsewhere, and build entire pages out of existing modules. Properties begin to exist outside of their original domains.

5. It’s Social

All aspects of the web are becoming social and leveraging social elements such as sharing, peer-to-peer recommendation, and social graphs, even traditional properties.

6. It’s Smart

Web technologies today aggregate personalized behaviors and analyze meta data around content to provide recommendations and tailor experience intelligently

7. It’s Powerful Infrastructure

Back-end technologies are enabling richer, more robust, consumer experiences that raise the bar for content creation online

To summarize “the 2010 web”: 1. Real time 2. Mobile 3. Decentralized 4.Modular 5. Social 6. Smart 7. Powerful

The attributes of the 2010 define the consumer experience, setting their expectations for the content they consume and the rules for

engagement. Marketers that want to communicate in the web today need to understand these characteristics and provide value

that consumers today expect within this framework.
