ED BUCZESKIE, EVENT MANAGER
Welcome to the 23rd annual Carlisle Chrysler Nationals! Let’s face it, this is more than just a show
because we are celebrating more than just a hobby — it’s a lifestyle for most of us. Th e best part is, it can be whatever you want it to be. If you prefer OE stock, have at it. If you like modifi ed Mopars, build the wildest thing your imagination (and wallet) will allow. Th en there are drivers, drag cars, trucks, late models and so on. On the opposite end of the spectrum are Jeeps.
If you’ve been reading my welcome column for the past several years, you’ve seen my Mopar journey from the ’66 Charger that brought me home from the hospital, to the ’73 Dart I drove during high school, to my Hotchkis-equipped ’67 Belvedere. Th is year I bring you my Jeep Wrangler. I’ve been a Jeep owner for more than 10 years and have realized just how diff erent they are from the rest of the Mopar lifestyle.
I began to wonder if owning a Jeep made me less of a Mopar guy because it doesn’t matter if it’s original or correct. Very little time is spent cleaning a Jeep (other than hosing it off when needed) and it only goes to car shows when I have nothing else available. Eventually, it hit me — owning a Jeep just adds diversity. You’ll see more Jeeps at the show this year, as we are fi nding more Mopar fans who also understand the “Jeep thing.”
You’ll also see more Max Wedges than ever before as we celebrate the Orange Monster in Building G. Th is display will include Arlen Vanke and his ’63 Max Wedge as well as Roger Lindamood and two of his Color Me Gone race cars. In total, you can expect more than two dozen Max Wedges from stock to race!
Last, but certainly not least, we are featuring the Women of Mopar this weekend in Building Y. Th ese are the ladies who live and breathe Mopar just as much as any guy in the hobby. We even have one owner who has been attending the show since she was born!
— Ed Buczeskie, Event Manager — Jim Pickering, Editor, American Car Collector
BRIGHT PINK AAR? CHRYSLER’S FACTORIES CAN ACCOMMODATE
Welcome to one of the largest gatherings of Mopar lovers in the world. Th is weekend is all about the
Pentastar brands, and there are over 2,400 vehicles here representing everything from vintage Imperials to modern Ram pickups. Th is is the place to be if you’re in the market for a Dodge or Plymouth muscle car, a vintage part for your Power Wagon, Chrysler-themed automobilia, or just a good time around some of the most dynamic and colorful American cars ever built.
To me, Chrysler has always stood out as an American manufacturer because of its tendency to build exactly what the public wants, and that has made it diff erent from the pack. From the stripped-down Road Runner to the Viper and Prowler, Chrysler has always been willing to break convention and set a new bar for style and performance — and where else could you get a bright pink Trans Am special from the factory?
I’ve always liked Mopars, but I’d never owned one until I bought a 2006 Charger SRT8 about a year ago. It’s my dual-purpose machine — part fun driver and part family car for hauling my 1-year-old daughter, Katie. Th e Charger is a monster at the drop of the pedal — everything you’d want in a modern muscle car. But it’s still docile enough to tool around town like a minivan. Even though I’ve traditionally been a GM guy, for my budget and my list of needs, the SRT was the perfect choice. It’s hands-down the best car I’ve ever owned.
If you’re into Mopar, then you owe it to yourself to check out American Car Collector magazine. Each issue contains vintage as well as modern Mopars that have sold at auction, and the prices they achieved. It’s a great way to keep up with the collectorcar market. Pick up a free issue at guest services, and check out our special subscription off er in this guide.

2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the Hollywood fi lm “Christine.” Join cast members, plus a car used in the fi lm and celebrate not only the fi lm, but also its place in automotive history. Y ou can see an actual car that was in the fi lm (there were many) and meet fi lm stars Alexandra Paul, William Ostrander, Malcolm Danare and Steven Tash. All four are scheduled to sign autographs and meet fans all weekend in Building T. In addition, the car and owner will be close by to talk about how he procured the famous Fury.
Alexandra Paul, who played co-lead Leigh Cabot and girlfriend of the Cunningham character, has starred in more than 70 fi lms and/or television programs. Along with her “Christine” credit, she’s famously known for her role of Stephanie Holden on “Baywatch.” Still very much active today and when not fi lming, Paul can be found doing something physical as she’s also a competitive endurance athlete. She’s competed in marathons, triathlons and has completed numerous other physically grueling challenges.
Th e additional cast members each played key roles in the fi lm and are being billed as “Th e Wrecking Crew,” so named due to the scene where a gang of bullies destroys Christine in a garage where she’s being kept. Th e crew consists of William Ostrander, Malcom Danare and Steven Tash.
William Ostrander, who played the longhaired bully Buddy Repperton and nemesis to leading character Arnie Cunningham and the car itself, returns to Carlisle where he most recently appeared in 2011. Along with his work in “Christine,” Ostrander has appeared in “Knots Landing," "Touched by an Angel” and the 1985 miniseries “North and South.”

Special Guests: The Ramchargers
In 1959 a group of engineers from Chrysler Corporation began to participate in the nation’s new
craze, “drag racing.” Th ey started with a 1949 Plymouth business coupe named “Th e High and Mighty.” By the 1960 race season, this group created the team named RAMCHARGERS. Th e RAMCHARGERS were named aft er the “long-horn” intake manifold that powered the early Chrysler 300 series. In 1963 the RAMCHARGERS became nationally famous with two factory-sponsored team cars, each using an automatic transmission. Nicknamed “Candymatic,” the cars were white with seven candy-apple red stripes on the top and trunk
SPECIAL GUESTS
The popularity of the iconic TV series “Th e Dukes of Hazzard”
made its cast and vehicles household names. For example, most people over the age of 40 will know that the General Lee was a car as well as a Civil War icon and who Boss Hogg, Uncle Jesse, and Bo and Luke Duke were. Younger people know that Daisy Dukes are short shorts, even if they don’t why they have that name. We’ve enjoyed hosting stars from the show over the years: 2012 – Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke) and Ben Jones (Cooter Davenport); 2011 – John Schneider (Bo Duke); and 2010 – James Best (Rosco P. Coltrane) and Byron Cherry (Coy Duke). We are very excited to welcome Sonny Shroyer (Deputy Enos Strate) this year.
If you have ever watched an episode of “Th e Dukes of Hazzard,” you’ve seen Sonny Shroyer play the part of Deputy Enos Strate. Shroyer is here this weekend to meet fans,
deck, along with the name RAMCHARGERS, leaning boldly toward the front of the car on each side.
2013 sees the return of Mopar Hall of Famers, the RAMCHARGERS. Th e RAMCHARGERS will make appearances in the Mopar and Mancini Racing booths on the Midway. Enthusiasts can sit in on a panel discussion with original members of the RAMCHARGERS. RAMCHARGERS members include Tom Hoover, Tom Coddington, Mike Buckel, Al Adam, John Wehrly, Dave Rockwell and Dick Skoglund. See schedule for times.
sign autographs, pose for photos and reminisce about “Th e Dukes of Hazzard.”
Shroyer, 77, is a Georgia native who attended Florida State Univer-sity to play football. When an injury ended his career, he transferred back to his home state of Georgia and ultimately graduated from the University of Georgia.
Since breaking into “showbiz,” Shroyer has starred in countless fi lms and TV shows, including “Th e Dukes of Hazzard.” Film appear-ances include the role of Governor Jimmie Davis in “Ray” and Coach “Bear” Bryant in “Forrest Gump.”
(Th ese two cars are located in the General Lee/Movie Cars/Special Interest/Customs Class on the Showfi eld – Row IE 57-77 )

From the day Carlisle Events was founded in 1974, the swap meet aspect has been key to the success of the
company. Events have been added, thrived and grown due, in part, to the success of something so simple, yet important, as a swap meet. Th e two biggest swap meets of the season, Spring and Fall Carlisle, start and end our Carlisle-based schedule, and overall, Carlisle Events has a hand in seven dedicated swap/vendor-based events. At Carlisle, the swap and car corral area comprises 8,100 spaces and during Spring and Fall Carlisle alone, a sell-out scenario is likely. In addition to our fl agship events, Carlisle has incorporated a swap/car corral element into every show that it’s associated with, including the 10 specialty shows within the Keystone State.
Onsite at the fairgrounds, some events have bigger swap meets than others but each serve a purpose to their audience. Aside from Spring and Fall Carlisle, one swap meet footprint is very important to both Carlisle management and the automotive enthusiast who have been supporting it since 1991; the one at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals. Why, you may ask? Th e answer is simple. Th e swap and car corral base for the annual Chrysler event makes it the biggest all-Mopar-themed event of its type in the world.
Th ere is a tremendous popularity for this event and the brand as a whole. Multiple events of its type take place annually, but no singular weekend can match what is off ered each July at Carlisle.
Vendors that take part in the weekend run the gambit too, from those who purchase a single 10-foot-by-30-foot footprint, to others who occupy multiple spaces; there is something to be had for everyone at Carlisle and lots of it. Th is particular weekend hosts just over 2,700 eligible vending spaces, and just like the aforementioned 8,100 from Spring and Fall Carlisle, what’s allotted during Chrysler weekend also fi lls up.
Two vendors that feel the weekend is worth their time and money are Legendary Auto Interiors from Newark, NY, and Kramer Automotive Specialties from Herman, PA. Each vendor secures multiple spaces for the weekend. Legendary Auto occupies N52-67,
O54-69, D49-52 and E51-55 while Kramer Automotive Specialties can be found at E87-98. Th eir products and reputations locally and regionally speak for themselves, but as companies, they help speak for the importance of the swap meet at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals.
“To me, this event is the biggest and best all-Mopar-themed show around,” said Jim Kramer. “I still do a lot of events, including a large one in Las Vegas, but by far, this event is my bread and butter. In fact, while I’ve scaled back with certain events, I don’t ever see me doing that here,” continued Kramer. “I’ve been part of weekends at Carlisle since the ’70s, have been with Chrysler since day one and even helped organize special displays in Building T early on. I feel like Carlisle treats everyone very well too and recog-nizes the importance of vendors at events like this. We aren’t treated like also-rans. Th is is just a special place to be and I look forward to it each year.”
It’s not just Kramer who feels that way, there are others just like him lining up to sing the praises of the largest all-Mopar-themed swap meet in the country. Another such success story comes via comments from Tony Mariano, sales representative and show manager for Legendary Auto.
“Th e size and scope is immense,” said Mariano. “Th e swap meet at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals allows for great marketing, advertising and sales opportunities for us. We have a large footprint here, bring most of all sales staff from New York and it’s by far our biggest show of the year, both fi nancially and footprint-wise.” Mariano concluded by adding, “We do well at other events of this type, but at Carlisle, we have a lot more foot traffi c and can easily get our name and product information in front of many more people.”
So while the items for sale in the swap meet may vary, from a simple piece of chrome to something much more important, the story remains the same. Shopping the swap meet at Carlisle is a big deal. Th e summer months are a great time to work on projects at home, and being able to visit a swap meet such as the one at Carlisle allows for some great mid-project shopping.

The best reference for restoring a car is to look at ones that are still
the way they came off of the assembly lines. Stop by the Mopar Survivors tent and take lots of reference photos for your restoration project and enhance your knowledge. Even if you aren’t restoring a Mopar, you owe it to yourself to see these historic treasures. Th ey still have their original factory-applied paint, interiors and drivetrains, or at least a minimum of 85% of them. Carlisle Events thanks Mel Major and all of the car owners for bringing us the biggest and best Mopar Survivor display in the world. Pictured on this page are the cars being displayed for the fi rst time in the Carlisle Mopar Survivors tent.

I oft en hear people say that they bleed Mopar. I like to say that I have Mopar in my blood. It was back
in 1957 that my dad’s parents met at a local Chrysler dealer. Th e rest is a big-block-powered journey that led me to my 1971 Plymouth Road Runner and my 1972 Dodge Charger; a journey that earned me the nickname of “Miss Mopar” among my peers, and that shaped me into the woman I am today. A journey that I would like to share with you.
When my dad was 3 years old, my Pop Pop bought a 1962 Chrysler 300; a beautiful beast of a car equipped with a 305-horsepower 383 engine and push-button Torquefl ite. Th e “Big C” served as the family tow vehicle, towing a travel trailer across the country multiple times.
As a child, I remember staring up at my dad in awe as he told the story of the hail storm they encountered in South Dakota. Golf ball-sized hail rained down on the Chrysler; it shattered the mirrors, dented the chrome and punctured the travel trailer. Th e Bermuda Turquoise paint, however, remained unscathed. My Pop Pop sold the “Big C” to his brother-in-law and purchased a 1972 Plymouth Fury Gran Coupe, which would later be lost to a garage fi re. My dad’s cousins would take the Chrysler down to Front Street in Philadelphia late at night and race for money. His one cousin boasted, “You wouldn’t believe the money I’ve made off that car.” All the while, my dad was studying engine machining in school and desperately wanted his old Chrysler back. He got his wish and bought the “Big C” back for $65.
In 1980-81 my dad restored the Chrysler 300 to showroom condition and went on to win awards at every local car show, big or small. I can still feel the chills I would get when I would stand on the tips of my toes to look at all of his trophies sitting on the shelves. I had to be all of 3 years old and I knew that I wanted the same thing one day. He also had a 1970 Challenger convertible. When I was a child, he would strap me in the front seat and drive me into town to get an ice cream cone (yes, he let me eat orange sherbet in that car!). My childhood and my adolescent years were defi ned by weekend car shows or wrenching in
the garage. My great-grandfather, my Pop Pop, my dad, and my uncle were all employed at the Lansdale Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram in Montgomeryville, PA, and I would be so excited to visit them. I was fascinat-ed by the sights, sounds, and smells of the shop. I too currently work there, making me a fourth-generation Chrysler employee.
When I was in my teens, I had my heart set on a Panther Pink Mopar. I found one — a 1971 Plymouth ’Cuda for $75,000. My dad humored me while I listed the features and excitedly pointed out my favorite ones. I will never forget the words that followed, “Mick, why don’t you and me fi x up the Road Runner? It could be a fun project.” I had never given much thought to the Road Runner. It was originally a creamsicle car; Tor-Red (HEMI Orange) with a white interior and a white vinyl top, with a 340 Pistol Grip four speed. Th e white top had been replaced with a black one and the bottom six inches of the body had also been painted black to cover up a less-than-perfect attempt at body work. Th ere was next to nothing left to either quarter panel; the driver’s side door was rotted; the frame rails were gone; there was no radiator support left , and there was a huge dent in the deck lid from a runaway tractor trailer wheel.
Th e next morning, I went out to the shed that we kept the Road Runner in, pulled the blankets off , and wiped the dust off the Road Runner decal. I fell in love. It’s a project still in process today.
Th anks to whoever invented smartphones, I spent most of my college classes in the back row searching Craigslist and eBay for old Mopars. I was in one of my Criminal Psychology classes when I stumbled upon a 1972 Dodge Charger SE. My dad and I went to take a look. It was solid, but obviously neglected. Back at home, I told my mom how much I wanted it; she spotted me the $200 that I was short. Although she didn’t know a thing about Mopars, she was the best Mopar mom ever!
When we brought the car home, I took a step back and looked at it. Th e steering wheel was in the back seat, it smelled awful, and dirt was caked on the seats. Th ere was greenery growing out of the manifold, it did

not have a carburetor, the transmission was frozen, and it had a full tank of 21-year-old gasoline. Aft er a lot of diagnosing, we decided that it was best to rebuild the engine. I will never forget tapping out that fi rst piston, the feeling of the heart of an engine falling into your hand while your dad (and MY Mopar Hero) watches over you. As I could aff ord to get new gaskets and replacement parts, we put the engine back together. On October 12, 2011, my dad put the last hose on. When I got home from work, he told me that we would be ready to fi re the Charger up for the fi rst time the next day. We spent the better part of the evening reminisc-ing on the whole process and he shared stories of his fi rst complete engine rebuild. Th e next day, I was eager to get to work and back home so I could take my Dodge for her fi rst cruise.
But then tragedy struck at 10 a.m. Just an hour aft er yelling “goodbye” to her, I learned that my mom had died from an undetected brain aneurysm. Needless to say, my world shattered around me and the Charger was the furthest thing from my mind.
On November 6, 2011, nearly a month aft er my mom’s untimely passing, the whole family gathered around and my Daddy sat shotgun as I taped my mom’s prayer card to the dash and fi red up the Charger for the fi rst time in 22 years. It was a cloudy, dreary day. I shivered as I held onto that steering wheel for dear life. It was the fi rst time I had smiled in 25 days.
Life changes…the restoration process has slowed,
but my Charger and my Road Runner are becoming showpieces that I hope to share with my children someday, just as my dad shared his passion with me. I was able to fulfi ll my lifelong goal of parking my own muscle car between my dad’s Chrysler and Challenger, and this year, the Charger will be in the All-Women’s Invitational in Building Y. I am excited to see where this Mopar-powered ride of life takes me and I am so thankful to everyone who has and continues to support me along the way. Mopar or No Car! You can fi nd Miss Mopar on Facebook.

2GN.org79 RegistrationsVehicles: Neon, 1995-2005
2GN.org was created in May 2004 to help bring together the owners of the second-generation Neon (2GN). Word spread over various Web forums, and within months the site had grown to be one of the most resourceful websites for the Neon. While the site is mainly focused at the second-generation Neon, many fi rst-generation Neon owners as well as non-Neon owners also call the site home due to its friendly, fun and helpful atmosphere. We’ve grown to be very close friends, and in some cases, we think of each other as family.

Coolest Club Hangout – East Coast Car and Truck Club18 RegistrationsOld Muscle, New Muscle, Daily Driver, Survivor, Project or just a nice ride
Th e East Coast Car and Truck Club of New Jersey had a Christmas in July-themed club tent complete with a decorated Christmas tree, fake snow, lights, Santa suits and candy canes. It was defi nitely the coolest club hangout. Th e East Coast Car and Truck Club was founded on the premise that auto and truck enthusiasts share a common love for anything on four wheels. We support local and national charities as well as promote pride and education within the community with regards to the ownership of all types of vehicles.
Northeast Hemi Owners Association69 RegistrationsVehicles: All Chrysler, All Years
Although we have “Hemi” in our name, we’re not strictly for Hemi owners. We’re a club for all Mopar enthusiasts and their families. Th e NeHOA was formed in 1976 and incorporated in Delaware in 1977. As many non-Hemi Mopar owners became interested the NeHOA has become one of the oldest and strongest Chrysler clubs in the country. We currently have approximately 170 members. Th e NeHOA holds two meets annually over the Memorial Day (2012: Jim Th orpe, PA) and Labor Day (2011: Rochester, NY) weekends at locations throughout the northeastern United States.
Moparts.com58 RegistrationsVehicles: All Mopar, All Years
Moparts.com is an informative, fun, family-friendly, Web community centered around classic Mopars and the related car/race/restoration/cruise-in lifestyle including a large free classifi eds section. With an amazingly varied background of 20,000-plus members ready and willing to help you in any way, Moparts.com is the cyber home of Mopar enthusiasts worldwide!
Welcome to the Club!
The four clubs recognized below, along with the others onsite, are part of the Carlisle Club Program. As part of this program, you have access to many perks such as a free tent, large-scale forum to showcase your group,
the chance to be recognized in the event directory, at the Sunday Awards parade and more. Th e Club Challenge is determined by the most registered showfi eld cars per club, while the Coolest Club goes to the club that best showcases the fun they’re having. E-Mail [email protected] for more details or call 717-243-7855.
