• Maximize corners using blind corner system – a set of trays that either automatically or manually pulls out when you open the door.

• Drawers vs. Roll-outs: Roll-outs have shorter sides, and require you to first open the door. Ideal for places such as under the sink or in the pantry. Deep drawers are great for big items, such as pots and pans.

• Large appliance holders: Recommended for medium to large kitchens. Appliance holder swings out of cabinet and up until it’s level with the counter.

INDIVIDUAL ROOMS:PRACTICAL IDEAS

• Keep cabinets to the standard 8’ height, both for convenience and to save money. If storage is very tight in the rest of the house, cabinets that go up to the ceiling can be used for storage, or to display collectibles.

• Avoid glazed finishes or distressed looks on cabinetry.

KITCHEN: SAVING MONEY

• Medicine cabinets: Integrate outlets for corded accessories. Decide on wall-mount cabinet or one that uses the stud space.

• Tower cabinets: Great for storing linens, toilet paper, and other bathroom essentials.

• Lowered vanity area: Gives designated place for trays of perfume and make-up. Allows seating while applying make-up.

• Can be as simple as racks of wine, or as complicated as a climate controlled room with wine racks around the perimeter, and an island in the middle in which to serve wine and cheese.
