Day 1: Siem Reap – Preah Khan Kampong Svay (Kampong Thom)

We’ll depart at our hotel at 08:00AM. We’ll leave for the Preah Khan temple in Kampong Thom province. We’ll provide you with lunch on the road. Upon arrival, we’ll visit the Preah Khan temple, which was the former base of King Jayavarvan VII from where he began his expansion outwards and later be-came the King of the capital of Angkor Thom. We’ll dine and camp out near a man-made reservoir that dates back to the 12th century C.E.

Day 2: Preah Khan Kampong Svay – Sambor – Kratie

Shortly after breakfast we’ll drive back road towards Sambor Prei Kuk, which

was the capital of Cambodia from the 6th to the 8th century C.E. We’ll stop

at a local restaurant for lunch and then continue our drive towards Kratie

upon unpaved roads. We’ll pass through farms, rice paddy and rubber plan-

tations. We’ll dine and spend an overnight in the town of Kratie.

Day 3: Kratie – Stung Treng – Cambodia/Laos border

We’ll have our breakfast at the hotel before we resume our drive along the

Mekong River for the day. We’ll first stop to visit the Pagoda of a Hundred

Pillars and then take an hour long boat trip to view the Mekong dolphins.

We’ll then have lunch in Stung Treng. We’ll cross to the other side of the riv-

er to drive towards the Laos border where we will stop for dinner at sunset.

Day 4: Cambodia/Laos border – Preah Vihear

We’ll then return to our 4WD vehicles and drive to Saem in Preah Vihear

province. A 4-hour drive later, we will have arrived at the top of Phnom

Dangrek Mountain Range, where we will visit the UNESCO world heritage

site (2008) of the Preah Vihear temple. This amazing temple was constructed

out of sandstone on the very top of the hill. From there, you can see both

Cambodia and Thailand. In the late afternoon, we’ll return to Saem for din-

ner and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 5: Preah Vihear – Anlong Veng – Siem Reap

After breakfast, we’ll drive along the road towards Anlong Veng: one of the

last bases of the Khmer Rouge. Ta Mok was the General Commander at that

time and the king of Anlong Veng in 1990 until the Khmer Rouge lost power.

He was arrested by the Cambodian Government in the early 2000s. Pol Pot,

the leader of the Khmer Rouge, died in Anglon Veng in 1998 and Ta Mok in

2006. We’ll take a short visit of Ta Mok’s house and learn a bit of Cambodia’s

recent history from our tour guide. We will then proceed to drive to the top

of the hill where Pol Pot’s and Ta Mok’s tombs are. Afterwards, we’ll head

out for our final destination of Siem Reap.

Your Travel Insurance should cover trip cancellation, medical and helicopter evacuation. Our guide will ask for a copy of your travel insurance information in case of emergency. VISA TO CAMBODIA: Most nationalities are eligible for a one-month visa on arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap International Airport, and all land borders with neighboring countries. The cost is $30 for a tourist visa and $35 for a business visa. Please bring a passport photo to apply for visa. If you do not have it, customs office will take your photo on spot but charge you extra USD2 to cover their administration fee. Bring payment in cash in US dollars. Please be aware that sometimes there can be long queues at the airport when obtaining a visa on arrival, however in general the queues move fairly quickly and it takes you around 10 to 30 minutes at the queue. TIPPING: Tipping is not compulsory but it is greatly appreciated throughout Southeast Asia, especially in the tourism industry. For reference, we have provided a general guideline for tipping as below. Tour Guide/Drivers: If you are pleased with the services provided by your tour guide and driver, then a tip for their hard work will be very much appre-ciated. In general, we recommend around US$5 -10/day/traveler for guides and US$5-7/day/traveler for drivers if less than 4 people in a group. We rec-ommend around US$3-7/day/traveler for guides and US$2-5/day/traveler for drivers if there are 5 people or more. CLOTHING: Since the weather is consistently warm throughout the country, it is advisa-ble to bring comfortable lightweight, loose fitting, cotton clothing and long-sleeved items for protection from mosquitoes and the sun. During the rainy season open-toe sandals are recommended. A hat and high-factor sun block is advisable for protection against the hot sun when sightseeing. T-shirts and knee length shorts are acceptable for visiting temples or pagodas, including those of Angkor Wat. Shoes are generally removed at the entrance to pago-das. For visits to the Silver Pagoda, which is within the Royal Palace grounds,

visitors are advised to wear long trousers or long skirts. At the Angkor Wat complex, you’ll be on your feet and walking a lot, sometimes over rough and slippery surfaces, so choose your footwear carefully. The soles of your shoes should offer good traction.
