Pastoral Duties: Equipping the Saints... Ephesians 4:12

6

The below description is a general idea of the job's parameters and scope and mostly reflects the gifts of the previous Pastor. Duties may be molded to a new Pastor's gifts and some responsibilities may have been taken on by others. Preaching, Teaching and People-

The preaching and teaching responsibilities require reading and study time, as well as organization and preparation time. Preparing fill-in the blank notes and slides for the Sunday service. This includes 40-44 Sunday sermons a year, the weekly Men’s Bible study and various Discipleship classes. Oversees church membership, discipleship and baptism.

Connecting with the community off campus. The people responsibilities include interacting with, praying and ministering to, getting to know,

seeking to encourage and support, visiting and connecting, serving alongside of, etc. This is hard to quantify in terms of exactly how much time it takes because it varies greatly from week to week, season to season and person to person.

The pastor is not expected to do it all, but to be an example of what service within the Body looks like.

Administration and Planning- Regular staff meetings and Elder meetings. These each require some time, energy and effort. Participation in preparing and monitoring the church budget with other members of the church staff

and leadership. Office administration that comes with the job include sorting, dealing with and distributing mail to

the proper people and places. Dealing with phone calls that come in to the Church, various emails, and occasional walk-in needs. Working with and listening to staff, dealing with any issues, and being part of the team as we work to get necessary things done. Keeping an eye out for any building and grounds needs that arise.

Review all Bible study materials used by the various Bible study groups to ensure that materials are theologically sound.

Work with others to plan the weekly services as well as a variety of other activities such as the Lord’s Supper, special services throughout the year, baptisms, etc.

Participation in Church Ministries- This may include, but is not limited to, the oversight of all ministries such as the music ministry,

Food Pantry ministry, Benevolence ministry, Pre-school events, Vacation Bible School, Building and Grounds ministry, etc.

There are also spoken and unspoken expectations of the Pastor’s role and duties which may be difficult to quantify. The above is simply a guideline, not a complete list of duties and tasks. The job will often involve doing whatever is necessary to compete the tasks at hand.

Offer to new pastor:The yearly base salary we will provide our pastor is between $45,000 - $55,000 depending on education and experience.Salary Review: Cost of living and merit compensation shall be reviewed annually. Adjustments may be given for cost of living. Within budgetary limits, merit adjustments will be based upon performance.Annual Vacation (# of weeks): The First year of employment of annual paid time off is 10 days. Vacation benefits will begin to accrue during the first 90 days of employment.

Community Profile Summary

9

Our 4-season resort community in beautiful Lake Tahoe offers many amenities such as skiing, hiking, fishing, beaches and boating, paddle boarding, golf, concerts, cultural events, and much more. There is easy access to shopping, cultural, and sporting events in the Bay Area, Sacramento, Reno and Carson City. Access to the Reno/Tahoe International Airport is just an hour away.

We live and work in the bi-state resort communities of South Lake Tahoe, California and Stateline to Glenbrook, Nevada which are separated only by the state line. Our community derives most of its income from the tourist industry. However that is slowly changing as people are beginning to take advantage of being able to work remotely. Many employment opportunities can be found at the casinos, ski resorts, marinas, shops, lodging, restaurants and many other tourist related businesses which are a considerable part of our community.

Higher educational opportunities are easily accessible at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe, Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Western Nevada College in Carson City & Minden, Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, and University of Nevada, Reno. There are also many other private learning institutions in the Reno area.

Medical professionals throughout the community, and our local hospital, Barton Memorial, in South Lake Tahoe, provide for most needs that may arise. Additional medical care is easily accessible in Carson City and Reno, Nevada.

Our 4-seasons here in Tahoe bring many different types of weather. We typically have approximately 300 days of sunshine. Winter brings snow and colder temperatures (probably some shoveling) but most often beautiful sunny days. After enjoying the delights and activities of winter, we look forward to warmer sunny days, when things start to turn green and we can do other outside activities. Summer brings temperatures in which we are able to spend enjoyable days outside doing a variety of activities. Fall brings great hiking and biking, etc. weather as we enjoy the changing fall colors.

The economic situation in our community ranges from low to high income. Many work for minimum wage at local businesses (many work multiple jobs simultaneously to make ends meet in a seasonal job market); while the higher income range is comprised of business owners, professionals, resort executives, and retirees. Our housing situation is varied. Low income housing is available on a limited basis, although that is of major concern to the community and is being addressed. Finding an affordable and available rental home is sometimes difficult, as the large number of vacation rental homes and second homes outweigh the number of long term rentals. There are also many high end homes, especially on the Nevada side of this community.

There is a small town feel to this area, as you will regularly see and meet your neighbors wherever you go during a typical day. Those of us who live here love living in Tahoe with all it has to offer.

Upon Reflection... There are a few things we would like to share with you about our church: Our primary goal at this time, which has been developed from our mission and vision for the next 5 years, is to find a pastor who is able to help grow our congregation and reach the next generation.

10

Our Mission is worshiping together, Making Disciples, Reaching our world. Our purpose at Tahoe Community Church is to teach the Word of God and build lifelong followers of Christ by worshiping together through our services and activities, making disciples through Bible studies and mentoring, and reaching our world through evangelism and serving those in need.

Some strengths of our church, the best of what we are as a community and what we can offer a new pastor include the following:

Our church preaches and believes in sound Biblical doctrine. We are a very friendly congregation and welcoming to many who visit Lake Tahoe. As a congregation, we strive to be compassionate and supportive to those within the Body and in our

community. There are opportunities to bring in new ideas of worship and reaching out to the community. We are excited to support a new pastor as he is called to Tahoe Community Church and seeing what the

Lord has in store for us.The ideas that most excite this church in becoming and remaining missional are:

To grow through progressive sanctification, from infants in Christ, to grace and maturity in our Christian walk, to the future of eternal life in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ.

To be used by the Holy Spirit as individuals and the Body, to live as Christian ambassadors wherever we are each and every day.

To learn and know our spiritual gifts, and be encouraged in ways to use them. To follow God's will for our lives, and put aside self as we grow in our walk with the Lord. To reach out to the world and share God's word and the Salvation message.

Some of our most passionate hopes are: To evangelize through our Pre-school, Awesome Kids and Families, the High School Christian Club,

Vacation Bible School, and Centrifuge Summer Camp. To reach not only the children, but also to reach the parents and bring them to church. Knowing that this and the next generation will have a solid foundation in Biblical truths.

We hope that when someone visits our church, the most important things they would find are: We love Jesus Sound Biblical doctrine. We are welcoming and friendly.

Some challenges that may face a new pastor: Growing our church because of community demographics and population. A small church staff, as the pastor may have to take on more duties than expected. Finances due to debt on our sanctuary. There is hope of a much better future, as it is hoped this is a short

term issue. Reaching the next generation and the unchurched in our community.

Our vision and hopes for this church and our pastor over the next 5 years are: Reaching out and having relationships with not only those in our congregation but with the community

as well. Bringing them to a saving knowledge of Christ, a solid foundation of Biblical truth, and joy in the Lord.
