Week 1 – Week Commencing 26th February 2018

Progress Tracker Reflection on the work you have produced this week

Personally, I believe that I have kept on top of the work for this week and feel proud of what I have produced in terms of generating a Who am I mind map as well as introducing my background and idea for my project. However, during this week there was some disruptions due to the bad weather conditions which interrupted college days but during this time I worked on my portfolio and pieces of work at home as a way to utilize my working time wisely. I came up with my two ideas quickly and decided on my first idea which was a basic project involving only one character and exploring my understanding of camera techniques and skills. Once I had my idea I produced a detailed PowerPoint presenting my ideas and key elements of each (for example: target audience). When I had completed all the work for chapter one I created a new blog post where I posted my first draft. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

The first problem I had for this week was the snow as I couldn’t complete work at college (couldn’t get to college)

Thinking of project ideas was stuff as I firstly couldn’t think of any

However, to solve this problem I used the time at home to complete all the work for the first chapter

But to solve this problem I researched and watched a few short films about any topic on YouTube and got inspiration from there where I came up with two ideas

Megan Wyrill’s Peer review (background of my project): You have gone into detail for your project storyline whilst also explaining clearly the background and why you believe this idea is important. You have also talked in detail about what you want your audience to get from your project and how you want it to make them feel. However, you could talk more about technical requirements of your project and what you plan to do from a visual / technical point of view.

Week 2 – Week Commencing 5th March 2018

Progress Tracker Reflection on the work you have produced this week

This week has been very interesting because I have learnt new skills such as being able to write three different literature reviews with different questions and research related to them. I found this part particularly quite challenging as it took me quite a while to choose a good research questions as I wasn’t entirely sure where to start however in the end I found a range of sources for three detailed questions. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

It took me a long time to find questions and sources for the literature reviews

When finding sources, I couldn’t necessarily find videos but more web pages and blogs however I find some videos on some literature review questions

However, to resolve this I managed my time accordingly to make sure I finished the whole of chapter two and each literature reviews

To solve this issue, I decided to you use the sources I had already found to help me and try my best to find at least one video for each review question

Zoran’s Feedback: Very well thought out idea which is interesting and different to

everyone else’s The idea is very current as it’s about the use of social media Very interesting Trendy/current topic used in your final major project

Peer Reviews – minimum 1 a week, ideally 1 a task. Please state

clearly who is reviewing your work, and what task they are reviewing.

Reviewed the media product review – sister:Really good structure as you have detailed and specified an introduction and conclusion for the media production review. You have ensured that you have reference each source and picture using the Harvard referencing tool in Word. The overall look of the report is very professional and includes a lot of informative information which is detailed.

Week 3 – Week Commencing 12th March 2018

ObjectivePlanning Tasks to be undertaken this week

1a = Red 1b = BlueMonday am x 3Wednesday am x 3

Begin the rest of chapter two which is the ‘Existing Media products’ and look at PowerPoint / then look and understand the requirements PowerPoint

Monday pm x 2Thursday am x 3

Begin writing both of these by making notes and writing a structured report for both

Tuesday am x 2Thursday pm x 1

Finish off the progress tracker for the week by getting a peer review and lecturers feedback regarding my work so far for this chapter

Tuesday pm x 2Friday am x 3

See whether my proposal has been marked and checked so if I need to check or change anything I can

Wednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1

Carry on with chapter two – then upload it when done

Week 3 – Week Commencing 12th March 2018

Progress Tracker Reflection on the work you have produced this week

During this week I started to finish off chapter two as I had finished chapter one in the previously week. Also, a week ago I had finished my proposal and sent it to my lecturer, this week I received feedback and acted upon it and corrected it using the helpful feedback. Once I had done this I sent it back to my teacher and now waiting for a response. Then as a class we started to look at the PowerPoint on the media product review. Once we had all done this with the lecturer I started to complete it which I ended up finishing quite quickly as I knew exactly what I wanted to write about. Then for the requirements task we didn’t have to complete that for this week as that was for the week during the Easter holidays. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

Finished the literature reviews early before going through the media production review PowerPoint in class

Started the media product review before going through it with the class

So, to solve this I began reading the PowerPoint on this as I wanted to be more ahead and begin thinking about similar media products to my final project which I can use to approach this report

This made me more ahead of most people and I already had looked at the PowerPoint

Towards the end of the week I made sure I got feedback from my peers for my work as well as getting input for the last section which is for the requirements of my creative media production. This week was mostly for people to catch up and get on top of their work before the Easter holidays. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Didn’t really come across many problems this week as I just continued on the chapter two section of the portfolio

No resolutions this week

Stephen’s Feedback: Look at more academic sources for each Literature review – I did

this and corrected sources which I think weren’t very academic and researched more and changed them

I don’t need to link a website or source under the subheading for each paragraph as the link is already in the Bibliography towards the end of the portfolio

Look at Similar Media product report and for each image, explain more about the ‘Semiology’ and ‘Mise en Scene’ especially for the first one where it was mentioned twice

Peer Reviews – minimum 1 a week, ideally 1 a task. Please state clearly who is reviewing your work, and what task they are

Wednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1

Get Input from lecturers about the next section to the portfolio (chapter 3) – then head out for experimentation

Week 5 – Week Commencing 26th March 2018

Progress Tracker Reflection on the work you have produced this week

For this week, I completed all of chapter two including finishing off the requirements of my creative media production by looking at the PowerPoint of the requirements to ensure that I have covered everything needed to be written about. This week was mostly about catching up and finishing off the whole of chapter two then in the second week of the Easter break I will begin looking after chapter three and start experimenting with shot types and edits for when I go back to College after I will feel more prepped and ready to begin a new term. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

I didn’t really have any problems this week, however when looking at the proposal I came across one problem which was whether or not we needed to send back the proposal to our lecturers as that was my final draft of it

We didn’t need to in the end which was ok so I knew I could now focus on some other pieces of work for chapter three and knew that my project proposal was finally done

Progress Tracker Reflection on the work you have produced this week

I have completed many things this week, one of them being experimenting with my research questions and how I hope to approach each of them. Firstly, I came up with four interesting questions which would help me for further in-depth research. Two of them are practical filming experiments and third one is a questionnaire around my subject which is social networking and the last one is an observation one where I will be taking notes based on the process of the test. I filmed the practical experiments and produced two short edits around white balance and colour correction (shot types/camera movement). The reason why I particularly wanted to focus on these is because I hope to incorporate these into my film to make the atmosphere seem more suspenseful and tense.Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

I only really had one huge problem was being able to structure my research questions making sure that what I am exploring, and testing relates to the question and the intention of my final major project

To resolve this, I had to look at my four questions and try to reword them so they make sense to me but to other people – I asked my lecturer to have a look and they are now much more suitable

The way of my research questions need to be more specific and worded slightly differently as I know what you are

trying to present but needs more detail with the wording of the question

Remember what your intention is for your project as this will always need referral and has importance to the project

Peer Reviews – minimum 1 a week, ideally 1 a task. Please state clearly who is reviewing your work, and what task they are reviewing.

Peer review done by William Hayes:Personally, I think that from watching both of the edited videos you experimented with are both very interesting. You have tested the lighting for your project as well as testing which colour would be suitable to overlay on top of your video this includes the colour correction. Blue tones will make your project seem colder and the orange/red tones will make it seem warmer so depending on what you want your audience to feel and to feel suspenseful they need the appropriate one.

Week 7 – Week Commencing: 23rd April 2018

Progress Tracker Reflection on the work you have produced this week

I am very proud with what I have achieved this week so far as I have managed to have finished my experimentation and written up all of my results and findings detailing what I found out for each research question clearly. I have also completed all the content needed for chapter four which was writing about my findings and detailing the analysis of my project ideas which was presented in my PowerPoint for chapter four which I produced in the first week of this trimester. Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved them

Problem Resolution

One problem which I did encounter but eventually researched into more about was linking my project ideas PowerPoint into my portfolio

However, I found out how to do this by looking it up on the internet you have to click on object in the insert tab at the top of the settings part of the document and select which document you want to link – this did take me a bit of time trying to remember how to do it

Lecturers Feedback, detailing further actions you need to take (student to complete)

Very good working on research questions Looking over chapter four is good – encouraging to see

your results and that you have clearly stated which settings you are going to use for your white balance for particular shots and which colour correction tones would be ideal to create mood and suspense

Overall looking good

Peer Reviews – minimum 1 a week, ideally 1 a task. Please state clearly who is reviewing your work, and what task they are reviewing.

Megan Wyrill’s Feedback for colour correction findings:You tested a range of camera angles and movements along with a range of colour effects. Your video was also very clear in showing what each shot was with the captions and corresponded well with what you had explained in your portfolio. To improve you could have been slightly more consistent with the colour effects you were using, for example; labelling each colour effect either warm or cold and trying both out on each angle. Overall. You explained your experiments very clearly.
