What is a Google Hangout On Air? Google HOA is a live video plaOorm that allows you to enlist up to 10 par.cipants and unlimited viewers.
It is based out of the Google+ network, but does not require the viewer to have Google+ to watch.
Why Do Video as a Podcast: Ray Ortega
“I use G+ HOA's for Podcasters' Roundtable because they are a great way of easily gathering mul.ple guests (up to 10) on to a single video call and have a conversa.on that anyone can view live. I especially love the Event Page integra.on which allows me to invite my "circles" to RSVP to each broadcast. Because viewers are signed up via their G+ accounts, they get a reminder when the stream is star.ng and in my opinion this is a huge reason why I'm able to draw rela.vely big numbers for a live-‐stream (50-‐100 o\en with less than 24 hours no.ce). As a producer, you get some nice controls over audio se_ngs and camera switching among other elements that help you create a fun viewing experience. And of course each HOA is automa.cally recorded and archived on your YouTube channel. For podcasters, HOA's are an easy way to get started in video, live-‐streaming and YouTube at the same .me. That's a lot of birds with one stone ;)”

Why Do Video as a Podcast: Remi Lavictoire
“I think there’s tremendous power in using Google Hangouts on Air, but it’s important to determine if the content will be of use and relevant to your audience. For our show, The Sci-‐Fi Movie Podcast, we don’t really have a use for video in our podcast because we’re just 3 people talking. A Hangout would be very handy if the goal is to share informa.on that needs to be seen. Screen sharing is one example of where Hangouts On Air is great. If your audience needs to see your content, Hangouts is great. If your content is audio based, Hangouts might not be necessary. Hangouts are also great for ge_ng real .me input during the show, and if that’s important to the audience, it can add a great dynamic. For content with a visual element or real .me interac.on, Google Hangouts can be a great addi.on to your plaOorm.”

Why Do Video as a Podcast: Libsyn Live
• Libsyn already had an audio show called The Feed, but the purpose of The Feed was to really talk about podcas.ng news & trends • We saw an opportunity to engage the community in a live Q&A, giving podcasters access to the Libsyn social and technical teams • Libsyn Live was born, a live Q&A with podcasters to answer any podcas.ng ques.ons • Google HOA allows for an easy way to stream the video with par.cipants from all over, & display screen shares, device walk through’s, even other videos during the show • Video is auto-‐published to YouTube, and it gets downloaded, edited, and released to iTunes as an audio & a video show

Show Driver, or Show Supplement?
Will this Google HOA become the meat and potatoes of your show? Basis For Your Show
• Do you want to always do your show live first in Google HOA, then take that content and redistribute it out to your podcast feed? • Are you looking to build recurring engagement DURING your show? • Would you use this as a way to bring guests onto your show? • Do you need a way to show something to the audience, such as a product review or unboxing, screen sharing, or if you cover a lot of live events
Would you use Google HOA as a way to provide special content for your show?
Supplement to Exis.ng Show
• Host a monthly Q&A (ala Libsyn Live) • Host a recurring HOA where you invite your listeners onto the show • Holiday specials • Major events (trade shows)

Let's Talk Setup – The Camera
Logitech C910
Don't go crazy spending thousands on 4K/3D/Stabilized with Tripod camcorders. Almost every scenario can be accommodated with a great web cam, at a frac.on of the cost. Logitech has some of the most recommended webcams on the market, topping out at $99.99.
Let’s Talk Setup – The Mic In the podcas.ng world, the microphone is one of the single most talked about and scru.nized piece of hardware associated with pu_ng on an audio show.
The microphone is s.ll the single most important piece of hardware.
If your audience can’t hear you or understand you, the rest is all for not.
You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a great mic!
SeUng Up Your First Google Hangouts On Air
• So now we have a general workflow… • We know a litle about hardware… • We know a litle about how we might implement this into our show… • So how do we setup our first Google Hangout on Air?
Star6ng & Broadcas6ng Your Hangout
• The .me has come, your show is about to go live. • Give yourself .me before your scheduled broadcast. • You aren’t live un.l you hit the big buton, so get yourself setup and setled first. • Don’t forget your lower thirds! • Smile for the camera, hit the buton, and *have fun*.
A[er the Hangout is Over… Once your hangout is done, YouTube gets to work. The video is automa.cally sent to YouTube for processing.
Once done processing, you can download the video, make it private or public, add it to playlists, and so on. It is at this point that you can download the MP4.
Now what? You have your show in three places: • On G+/YouTube • On your computer as a video • On your computer as audio It doesn’t end here! It’s .me to get your show marketed to the on-‐demand crowd. • Embed on your site • Share to Facebook, Twiter, networks
where your audience lives • Reshare older episodes! • Respond to comments on your video Lastly, plan your next hangout!
