  2. 2. + Cloud-to-Ground Lightning (CG) Lightning: electrostatic discharge during an electric storm between electrically charged regions of a cloud between another cloud(CC) or the ground (GC). Lightning strike temporarily equalizes the ions
  3. 3. + Formation of Cloud-to-Ground Connection A channel of negatively charged air(stepped leader) will zig-zag downwards in a forked pattern from a negatively charged thunder cloud. As it nears the ground, the negatively charged stepped leader is attracted to a channel of positive charge reaching up from the ground (usually carried through tall objects) and when they connected a powerful electric current begins flowing.
  4. 4. + Visible CG The stroke continues through the charge called a return stroke. Lightning becomes visible when the process repeats itself several times along the same path
