Alipay is the most widely used third-party online payments service
provider in China, with over 100 million daily transactions and over
400 million active users. Its primary product is a digital wallet, Alipay
Wallet, which also includes a mobile app that allows customers
to conduct transactions directly from their mobile devices. Users
typically have a broad range of payment options when paying
via Alipay.
Owned by commerce conglomerate Alibaba, Alipay provides
payment services for major Alibaba ecommerce platforms such
as Taobao and Tmall. As the dominant payment method in China,
supporting Alipay on your website or app has enormous benefits.
Alipay benefits:
• Access to the fast-growing Chinese market, connecting with
over 400 million registered users and more than 460,000
Chinese businesses

Alipay and Adyen
Integrated options:
Standard redirect flow with Directory Lookup: web & mobile
Functionality:
Refunds / multiple partial refunds
Settlement in USD, EUR, AUD, GBP, HKD, JPY, SGD
2-step verification resulting in no chargebacks
Integrate with Adyen
We support standard web, web-to-mobile, and in-app transactions.
Adyen Hosted Payment Pages (HPP)
With this integration, the payment page is hosted by Adyen,
making it quick and easy to integrate. Adyen directs the customer
straight from your site to the payment method.
Directory Lookup
Directory Lookup enables you to dynamically provide a
list of the most relevant payment methods to your customers,
based on their location and basket value. This option allows
merchants to display the supported payment methods on their
own page, then send the customer directly to the payment
method, which provides an optimized shopping experience.
Directory Lookup also recognizes mobile transactions and opens
up a mobile-optimized flow.
Security
Alipay’s two-factor authentication process contributes to some of
the lowest fraud rates in the industry. Its technology conforms to
the latest PCI-DSS information security standards and utilizes data
encryption standards to protect each transaction. There are no
chargebacks on standard transactions
One-click / recurring payments
For interested merchants, Adyen offers one-click/recurring
payments, which provides a seamless experience for returning
visitors to your site or app. Note this option requires merchants
to be PCI compliant, and they would be responsible for
fraudulent chargebacks with this integration. Please contact us for
more information.

Case study: Adyen & Evernote
How Evernote tapped into the Chinese market
Evernote is a leading workspace app that offers services and
products built to maximize the effectiveness of the workplace. The
company has always had international customers, and Evernote
adapted to local languages early on in the game. Working to ensure
their customers could pay with the method that makes the most
sense for them, Evernote found that it was critical for them to
accept Alipay in order to tap into the Chinese market.
To get up an running, Evernote had two choices—a direct
connection with Alipay or to extend their connection with Adyen
to support Alipay. A custom integration with Alipay was going to be
complex and time-consuming. Evernote instead opted to leverage
their existing connection with Adyen that supported credit cards,
which meant they were able to start accepting Alipay payments
in China in very little engineering time. The first integration they
did was a payment redirect through a normal desktop browser;
then by merely changing one line of code, Evernote optimized that
integration to support mobile payments via Alipay.
Evernote and Adyen continue to work together to ensure that
Evernote is providing the best payments experience to their
customers around the world.
"Adyen was great with delivering the Alipay mobile integration.
It was something that we asked for with very little lead time…
three or four weeks before our conference in China. And Adyen
delivered with a week to go.”

Case study: Adyen & The Cambridge Satchel
How The Cambridge Satchel grew Black Friday sales
The Cambridge Satchel Company is a British business that produces
handmade leather goods and satchels based on an original
Oxford and Cambridge satchel design. As the company continued
to expand globally at a fast rate, it needed a solution that would
enable the company to scale internationally. User experience was a
driving force, with an aim to provide a unified customer experience
across all channels, including cross-channel returns.
The primary focus of The Cambridge Satchel’s global expansion was
China, where the company launched a local website that supported
China UnionPay and major international credit cards. The company
looked to Adyen to help it accept Alipay, and in February 2015, it
went live with Alipay.
Adyen’s direct connectivity to Alipay meant that The Cambridge
Satchel benefited from an integration for both online and mobile
payments. The month following the Alipay launch showed that the
payment method accounted for almost double the transactions of
all other payment methods combined, and within three months,
authorization rates increased by 15% and conversions by 5%.
"We are excited to be working together with Adyen who
will continue to support The Cambridge Satchel Company’s
international expansion. We are now discussing our options to
expand into new markets and we are confident that these will be
rolled out successfully with Adyen.”
Jonny Wooldridge, CTO, The Cambridge Satchel Company
