'"#th Anniversary We are proud to announce that His Eminence, Cardinal Joseph Tobin has accepted our invitation to preside at our 70thAnniversary Mass on Sunday, June 24, at 12NOON. That same afternoon we will have a Family Fun Festival with food, rides and activities for all.

On display in the narthex is a beautiful art rendering of the work we look to complete. In addition to addressing serious drainage issues, unsafe and crumbling sidewalks, cracked and uneven pave-ment we are excited to extend the beauty found within our church into our front campus with new and improved lighting, additional parking and more beautiful landscaping.

Thank you to all who have contributed to our 70th Anniversary Campaign. If you have not yet do so we ask that you seriously con-sider giving a gift to your Church on this milestone anniversary.

Looking beyond ourselves allows us to see things in perspective and embrace God’s loving plan for us.

  .

Does it mean being successful big house with a luxury car being better looking, smarter

We humans tend to be short-sighted. We get taken in by appearances. It’s easy to get caught up in what the world tells us is valuable. We allow ourselves the eyes of others – especially family and friends.

There’s nothing wrong with developing and using our God-given abilities or admiring others for theirs. However, thinking that makes them – or us – more important or worthy of love is a mistake. Our talents don’t make us valuable in God’s eyes. After all, he’s the one that gave them to us. Being human, and made in God’s image, is what gives us dignity and worth.

Over and over again, Jesus makes it clear that following him means exchanging short-sighted rewards for those that endure. It takes time and effort to look beneath the surface for what has true and lasting value. It takes wisdom and grace to use the gifts we have for good, and not for reasons of pride. It takes faith to believe that what we have here on earth is but a foretaste of what God has set aside for us in the next life.

It takes courage, too. It’s risky to be true to our own principles instead of going along with other people – especially when those other people are near and dear to us. No one likes being rejected or feeling like an outsider. But Jesus assures his listeners that those who let go of ego-driven goals and relationships in order to share the Good News will receive in this present world.

We do not walk this path alone, however. God gives us a community of believers so we can stand together and encourage each other. The reward is eternal life – but eternal life begins here and now when we embrace eternal values. There is joy in a shared journey – in accompanying each other in the life of discipleship. There is comfort in mutual prayer, and strength in love. There is a taste of heaven in communion.

Class Trips—a Time to Explore and Have FunFrom exploring the Garden State coastline to walking along the bright lights of Broadway, class trips this spring will take the Academy students all over the Garden State and into New York.

The students will spend the day having fun taking a hay ride, riding a roller coaster and using their imaginations in Middle Earth Theater.

First, sixth, and seventh grades will be travelling to Sandy Hook and participate in a day-long program offered by Brookdale Community College’s Ocean Institute. There they will immerse themselves in a grade level lesson on marine and coastal life found in New Jersey and participate in marine science activities, including searching for creatures and items along the coastline. The program is designed to inspire students toward understanding and stewardship of our state’s marine and coastal resources.

Second grade is also focusing on science. They are taking a trip % ( )*# "delve into the Hudson River ecosystem, climb a rock wall, and search their way through a touch tunnel.

All the trips are designed not just to educate, but to spark imaginations and foster friendship throughout our SBA family.

He discovered a "new-found love of Jesus Christ" and served as a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and lay assistant coordinator of the RCIA program at his home parish.

Although he had a desire to enter the priesthood as a child, he said his career got in the way of his faith. "As I discerned the sense of calling, I also strug gled with feelings of commitment to the people I worked with over 18 years as an attorney, and kept telling myself that it would be impossible to leave a career and business after such a long time," he said."I kept convincing my- $ " with the status quo of balancing both my career and my service to the Church and my parish in lay ministry."

St. Anthony’s BreadOn June 13, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Anthony of Pad-ua. St. Anthony was a Franciscan friar from the 13th century who dedicated his life to service of the poor. There is a longstanding tradition in the Catholic Church to offer St. Anthony’s Bread to the faithful and to the poor on his feast day. This tradition is meant to remind us of St. Anthony’s love of God and service to the poor, thus encouraging us to follow his saintly example. At the 6:30AM and 8:30AM Masses on Wednesday, June 13, through the generosity of a parishioner, a loaf of bread will be of-fered to all who attend Mass that day. This St. Anthony’s bread is meant to inspire those who receive the bread to assist the poor. In addition to doing something extra for the poor, St. Anthony’s Bread can be broken and shared at dinner as each member of the family shares what he or she is grateful for. As we look to the Feast of St. Anthony, may you and your loved ones, through his intercession, be blessed with generous hearts for serving the poor.St. Anthony of Padua, pray for us!
