SECTION 1 DESCRIPTION The head unit contains a HEPA FILTER to provide Class 100 Clean Air to FED STD 209D. (Equivalent Portable Standard is BS5295 Class E or F) The filter is 99.997% efficient to 0,3 micron particles and its seals are maintained under negative pressure to eliminate leaks into the work area through the seals. The main filter is protected by a dust filter mounted behind a grill on the front of the cabinet. Airflow is considered laminar between 0,35 to 0,55 m/sec and the cabinet will be set to run at 0,4 to 0,45 m/sec.

SECTION 2 OPERATION COMMISSIONING The head unit will be calibrated at the factory and should not require further adjustment. TESTING It is recommended the unit be tested to meet the standards of FED 209D using a suitable particle counter. Airflow-Downflow velocity should be 0,4 to 0,45 m/sec on commissioning. CONTROL PANEL The control panel is mounted on the right hand side of the head unit and the electrical box behind the panel contains the electrical components for Front Access after installation. CONTROLS / ALARMS The control panel has a mimic display and includes:- 1. Mains illuminated rocker switch on/off 2. Light rocker switch on/off 3. Mini-helic gauge for filter Pressure Indication 4. All fuses 5. Fan running green lamp 6. Pre-filter warning RED LAMP 7. Main filter warning RED LAMP 8. Access panel for (A) Pressure switch A (R.H. Side) (B) Fan speed control (C) Pressure switch B (L.H. Side)

OPERATION The mains rocker switch starts all functions of the machine and the light switch can be selected if required. MINIHELIC GAUGES The minihelic gauge monitors the Main "Hepa" Filter pressure differential. Clean filters and 0,4 m/sec average downflow will be about 8-10mm water gauge. During use and recalibration the pressure will rise and the filters will require changing when the pressure increases to about 30mm water gauge.

SECTION 3 FILTERS The pre-filter is mounted into its own housing and located behind the inlet grill on the head unit. The grill is secured by spring latches and the grill is simply pulled to give access. MAIN FILTER The main filter is 99.997% efficient to 0,3 micron particles and will provide Class 100 clean air. The filter is mounted from inside the work area and secured with a frame and 4 bolts with springs to maintain seal pressure. After fitting a new filter the filter should be checked by D.O.P. or a particle detector.

SECTION 4 AIRFLOW The cabinet provides laminar air at a minimum of 0,35m/sec and particle free to FED 209D Class 100. Pre-filter is mounted in the cabinet to protect the main filter. The cabinet is set 0,4 to 0,45 m/sec for normal use and should not be allowed to drop below 0,35 m/sec where the air is likely to become turbulent and the aperture very sensitive to cross draughts. The condition of the filters are monitored by pressure switches in the control panel. Switch A - Main Filter Switch B - Pre-Filter When either of the Alarm Lamps become illuminated it will be necessary to increase the fan speed and re-calibrate the sensors - See appropriate section. If the fan cannot maintain 0,40 m/sec on full adjustment with a clean pre-filter then it will be necessary to change the Hepa Filter.

SECTION 5 SERVICING An annual service is recommended and will cover the following points; i) Airflow check and reset if necessary. ii) Filter condition check by D.O.P. and particle counter iii) Fan reset and re-calibration of the low airflow alarms. iv) Inspection of electrical components, lighting, cables etc v) Cleaning and checking the condition of the glazing. vi) Examination of pre-filter condition. vii) Issuing of a test report complete with an airflow certificate and compliance to

FED 209D Class 100.

SECTION 6 CALIBRATION The cabinet is fitted with two pressure sensors to detect condition of filters. ACCESS The control panel has a top access panel secured with two screws and the adjustments are inside this panel. Pressure Switch A - Right Hand Side. This is for the main Hepa Filter condition and operates Red Ind. Lamp in mimic display Centre fan speed control potentiometer. Pressure switch B - Left Hand Side. This is for the pre-filter and operates Red FWD Lamp on Air Grill on mimic display. The pressure switches are at low voltage and have a central adjusting crosshead screw. CALIBRATION - PROCEDURE 1. Remove top control access panel 2. Switch cabinet on and allow fan to reach normal operating temperature by running for 10

minutes 3. Adjust fan speed control to give a downflow average between 0,4 - 0,45 m/sec. 4. Block approximately half of the inlet grill with plastic sheet (or paper etc) 5. The right hand pressure switch "A" is now adjusted to just come on. Screw anti-clockwise to illuminate Screw clockwise to switch off. 6. Increase fan speed to give increase in pressure on minihelic gauge of 5mm water gauge. 7. Adjust switch "B" so light just comes on: Screw anti-clockwise to illuminate Screw clockwise to switch off 8. Return fan speed to give original pressure. 9. Check airflow is still 0,4 to 0,45 m/sec average 10. Replace access panel

SECTION 7 MAINTENANCE FAULT DIAGNOSIS DISCONNECT FROM MAIN SUPPLY The unit is protected by fuses on all main circuits as follows:- MAIN FUSE - 5A FAN - 3A LIGHTS - 1A TRANSFORMER - 1A CIRCUIT LIGHTING The light unit is a self-contained assembly mounted on the housing at the front of the cabinet to remove the housing for access to starter/tube. Remove the plastic screws inside the cabinet and lift up and off the assembly. An electrical plug and socket connector allows removal from the cabinet. A diffuser tube is fitted over the fluorescent tube. ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

**CAUTION 240V - DISCONNECT SUPPLY** These are accessed from control panel by:- (a) Remove top calibration access panel (b) Remove two screws in the control panel now visible (c) Lift control panel up and out FAN The fan is to IP44 and has a thermal overload that automatically resets on cooling. The fan requires no routine maintenance.

SECTION 9 U V LIGHT – OPTIONAL The UV light switch is interlocked with the fluorescent light so only one can be in operation at the same time. There is a shield fitted to the light to prevent damage to the filter and minimize emission of UV light from the front of the cabinet.

WARNING

UV RAYS WILL DAMAGE EYE AND SKIN TISSUE AND THE CABINET MUST NOT BE USED WITH THE UV LIGHT ON.
