Versions and perversions Slide 2 Few vital questions Whats the issue with the many bible versions? Are they all the same? Is it real just a simplified/modernised language or is there more than meets the eye? We will answer these questions in the following slides. Slide 3 Battle of the bibles Slide 4 You probably think that this is a new battle, oh no, no, no my dear friend. It is an old, very old battle, since creation did God really say you must not eat? Remember that one? That was the first time Gods word was doubted Slide 5 What did God say? God said: Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen. 2:16-17 Slide 6 What did Satan say? He said: Yeah, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?; Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Gen. 3:1,4-5 Notice something? Slide 7 God says eat of every tree save that of the knowledge of good and evil; The devil says dont eat of any tree. God says you will surely die Satan says you will not surely die He even adds a new doctrine of being Gods Slide 8 Whats the big deal with the Bible? Mt. 4:4 But He answered and said, It is written, men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Isaiah 8:20 To the Law and the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.Matthew 22:29 Slide 9 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.1 Peter 1:23 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the Word of our God shall stand for ever.Isaiah 40:8. But He said, Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it.Luke 11:28 Slide 10 "Brethern, cling to your Bible, as it reads... and obey the Word, and not one of you will be lost." 1 SM.18 "The people of God are directed to the Scriptures as their sageguard against the influence of false teachers....None but those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will stand through the last great conflict." C.C. 593-4. "The whole Bible is a manifestation of Christ. The word must be our source of power." D.A. 390. Slide 11 Are we supposed to change the bible? Rev. 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in the book. Slide 12 Family tree of bibles Original new testament manuscripts Ancestor of Alexandrian family (Lost) Papyrus 75 C. 300 A.D. Papyrus 66 C. 200 A.D. Mixed text Codex B 4 th century Codex Aleph 4 th century Lost manuscripts of the traditional texts Gothic version 4 th century Peshitta syriac 2 nd century Codex W 4 th or 5 th century Codex A 5 th century Ancestor of western family Latin Vulgate 4 th century Slide 13 Verses affected New American Standard 909 Revised version 788 New world translation 767 NIV 695 Good news 614 Amplified 484 Douay 421 Old Jehovahs witnesses 120 NKJV ignored the textus recepticus 1200 times Slide 14 Is the bible important? Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them. Isaiah 28:9-10 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book. Slide 15 Yes it is Slide 16 Now lets examine the modern bibles and see how much they have tempered with the word of God. Slide 17 Slide 18 Slide 19 Slide 20 Slide 21 Slide 22 Slide 23 Slide 24 Slide 25 Slide 26 Slide 27 Slide 28 Slide 29 Slide 30 Slide 31 Slide 32 Slide 33 Slide 34 Slide 35 Slide 36 Slide 37 Slide 38 Slide 39 Slide 40 Slide 41 Slide 42 Slide 43 Slide 44 Slide 45 Slide 46 Slide 47 Slide 48 Slide 49 Slide 50 Slide 51 Slide 52 Slide 53 Slide 54 Slide 55 Slide 56 Slide 57 Slide 58 Slide 59 Slide 60 Slide 61 Slide 62 Slide 63 Slide 64 Slide 65 Slide 66 Slide 67 Slide 68 Slide 69 Slide 70 Slide 71 Slide 72 Slide 73 Slide 74 Slide 75 Slide 76 Slide 77 Slide 78 Slide 79 Slide 80 Slide 81 Slide 82 Slide 83 Slide 84 Slide 85 Slide 86 Slide 87 Slide 88 Slide 89 Slide 90 Slide 91 Slide 92 Slide 93 Slide 94 Slide 95 Slide 96 Slide 97 Slide 98 Slide 99 Slide 100 Slide 101 Slide 102 Slide 103 Slide 104 Slide 105 Slide 106 Slide 107 Slide 108 Slide 109 Slide 110 Slide 111 Slide 112 Slide 113 Slide 114 Slide 115 Slide 116 Slide 117 Slide 118 Slide 119 Slide 120 Slide 121 Slide 122 What our predecessors said The printing of the English Bible has proved to be by far the mightiest barrier ever reared to repel the advance of Popery, and to damage all the resources of the Papacy.McClure, The Translators Revived, p. 71. Slide 123 It [the King James Bible] has not only been the stronghold of Protestantism in Great Britain, but it has built a gigantic wall as a barrier against the spread of Romanism.B.G. Wilkinson, Our Authorized Bible Vindicated, p. 88 Slide 124 Now, as the English-speaking people have the best Bible in the world, and as it is the most beautiful monument erected with the English alphabet, we ought to make the most of it, for it is an incomparably rich inheritance, free to all who can read. This means that we ought invariably in the church and on public occasions to use the Authorized Version; all others are inferior. Ladies Home Journal, November 1921 [statement made twenty years after the American Standard Version was published]. Slide 125 Who will say that the uncommon beauty and marvelous English of the Protestant Bible is not one of the great strongholds of heresy in this country? Faber, quoted in Eadie, The English Bible, Vol. 2, p. 158. [Faber, of the Church of England, was a secret Catholic who was anxious to bring England back to subservience to Rome.] Slide 126 The birth of the King James Bible was a death stroke to the supremacy of Roman Catholicism. The translators little foresaw the wide extent of circulation and the tremendous influence to be won by their book. They little dreamed that for three hundred years it would form the bond of English Protestantism in all parts of the world.Benjamin Wilkinson, Our Authorized Bible Vindicated, p. 88.
