12-Day Pilgrimage to Rome , Italy
26 February-9 March 2018
Msgr. Brovey will be leading a pilgrimage to
Rome on 26 February—9 March 2018 visiting
Assisi, Florence, Orvieto and 5 days in Rome.
The pilgrimage begins in the peaceful hillside
town of St. Francis and St. Clare before continu-
ing on to the Renaissance city of Florence. On
the way to Rome, we will stop in the town of
Orvieto where the tradition of the Corpus
Christi Eucharistic Processions began. While in
the Eternal City, we will visit some of the most
significant churches in Church history: St. Pe-
ter’s Basilica, St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside-
the-Wall, St. Mary Major, the Holy Stairs, St.
Clemente, St. Maria in Trastevere, St. Cecilia,
the Gesu, and the catacombs to name just a few.
We will also attend a Papal Audience with Pope
Francis and Scavi Tour (a tour beneath St. Pe-
ter’s to the vey tomb of the Prince of the Apos-
tles). Also, included are a walking tour to the
vibrant Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, Trevi
Fountain and Spanish Steps and much more. A
pilgrimage to Rome is a wonderfully spiritual
enriching experience with much fun and fellow-
ship mixed in! $3,998 Includes round-trip air-
fare from CHS, first class hotels, guides. Early
bird discounts available.
Please email Msgr. Brovey for brochure:

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist 18 June 2017
The Diocese of Charleston
has begun to prepare for
our Bicentennial in 2020
when we will honor 200
years of remarkable wit-
ness to the Gospel. Bishop
Guglielmone is inviting all
parishioners to help frame
our shared future through brief online survey.
The video is available at
www.youtube.com/watch?
v=ecbZVZURVQc&feature=youtu.be
The English survey link is
www.surveymonkey.com/r/CharlestonMAP.
The Spanish survey link is
es.surveymonkey.com/r/EncuestaCharleston.
Please note beginning 21 June 2017, the Offices
of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist will be
moving to 105 Queen Street.
As we settle in, the offices will be closed for
regular business 21 & 22 June 2017. Please be
patient as our internet and phone availability
may be sporadic during the transition.
Thank you for your understanding.
Bishop’s Annual Appeal: As of April 30, 2017,
the BAA has collected almost $2.7 million. Our
parish has contributed $48,188.25 towards our
goal of $61,110.00. This represents 78.85% of our
goal from 15.82% of our registered families.
The BAA provides funding for incredible pro-
grams and ministries doing critically important
work in our diocese. Through charitable, educa-
tional, outreach and evangelization efforts, a re-
al difference os being made. Please prayerfully
consider a pledge to the Appeal if you have not
done so already. Our parish family is called to
join our diocesan family in this endeavor. All
gifts, are meaningful and appreciated.
The Newman Connection Project:
We wish to congratulate the gradu-
ating high school seniors of the par-
ish! As we send them forth with our
prayers, let’s work to keep them
connected to the faith during the college years.
Please watch a video that Bishop Guglielmone
has put out about a partnership with the New-
man Connection -
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS7CuYkaRVs&t=1s.
Student information may be entered online at
www.surveymonkey.com/r/DHY3Z6D.
This will ensure that personal invitations and a
welcome are extended to students in the fall.
Help ensure that the students know there is a
safe, welcoming and inviting place for them in
their new environments. Through these efforts,
we can keep them engaged in the faith and help
them find a way to personally encounter Christ.
Altar Server Night at The Joe!
The Knights of Columbus invite all
Cathedral Altar Servers to attend the River Dogs
Baseball Game on 10 July. Those who wish to
attend, please sign up at the back of the church.
Attention Parents! Parents of chil-
dren in 1st and 2nd grade in the Fall
will be part of the new and exciting
program at the Cathedral parish!
When parents have a child baptized
the priest asks them: “You have
asked to have your child baptized. In doing so,
you are accepting the responsibility of training
them in the practice of the faith. It will be your
duty to bring them up to keep God’s command-
ments as Christ taught us, by loving God and
our neighbor. Do you clearly understand what
you are undertaking?”
The parish program “Families Faith For-
mation” recognizes that it is the primary role of
parents to be the first teachers of the faith to
their children. The program is meant to give
parents the tools and support to be the best of
teachers in the Faith. It is family based to help
parents make the family home a true “domestic
church” where children learn to live their Cath-
olic Faith. Parents of rising 1st and 2nd graders
are asked to register this month to receive more
details of this exciting program to help form
strong Catholic families in which children learn
the joys of living their Catholic Faith through
the witness of their own parents and to build
up a stronger parish community. The registra-
tion form can be found at:
http://charlestoncathedral.com/school-of-
christian-formation/.
The Saints would like to wish all of the Fathers
a Happy Father’s Day! Summer hours for the
CCS office will be Monday-Thursday, 9 am –1
pm. The office will be closed the week of 3-7
July. The CCS’s 5 core values are: Sharing Faith,
Loving Family, Celebrating Diversity, Experi-
encing Art, and Achieving Academic Excel-
lence. Please Call the school office for a tour if
interested in our lower school classes 843-577-
4495. Please visit www.charlestoncatholic.com.

St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You sup-
ported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You
know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and pro-
tect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep
peace and sang out in true joy through the intimacy with God’s Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Moth-
er. Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him
faithfully as you have done. Pope John XXIII
