American Lutherans’ WNA GALA KICK-OFF “ACCAIM * LEARN * CELEBRATE”

Presenting the Reverend Dr. Peter Perry of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Glendale, Arizona. He will be speaking about how he discovered that Revelation really tells the story of hope in a changing culture and seductively comfortable lifestyle. Come hear and discuss how the book of Revelation applies today and gives us hope in Christ.

Sam and Josh Stefanski, two dynamic brothers will be in concert, presenting “The Classics - Celebrate the timeless music from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s.” The Stefanskis are gifted and will totally entertain!

“SURGERY OR NOT” Jonathan J Goodman, MD, is a General Surgery specialist in Sun City, Arizona. He attended and graduated from the University Of Southern California School Of Medicine in 1999 and has over 19 years of diverse experience, particularly in General Surgery. (This is the only program offered at 4:30 p.m.)

Ken Sheets, Executive director, Along Side Ministries, will be speaking. This organization provides spiritual and practical guidance and support to Christian men and women as they transition from prison back to the community and the church.

Sharon Bonesteel, local author, will read from her 5-star book of nine unique holiday season stories for both children and adults. “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” celebrates the joy and diversity of Christmas, Eid-d-Fitr, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Thanksgiving.

“Dry Heat” featuring music of Bluegrass, Western, Folk, Country and Gospel music. They style their performances to the entertainment needs of the audience, using a bit of humor, some interaction, and audience participation.

Today’s scammers and identity thieves are technologically advanced and aggressive. Betty Delano with the Arizona General Attorney’s Office Taskforce-Against-Senior-Abuse department will discuss the most recent scams, the red flags to watch for and what you can do to prevent becoming a victim.

4:30 p.m. Sanctuary Jeff and Rosanne Johnson, missionaries to the Muslim world, return to ALC to give an update on this challenging field of mission. 5:15 p.m. Fellowship Hall Catered Dinner Menu: Chicken/Alfredo casserole Peas Mandarin Almond Salad Apple Crisp Rolls/butter 6:00 p.m. Sanctuary The Rainbow Barbershop Quartet, extension of the West Valley Desert Aires Chorus, will present a concert of musical variety. Come hear a beautiful blend of four harmonizing voices. January 22, 2020 4:30 p.m. A/B Michael Shore, Arizona’s “Hip Historian” relating his passion for uncovering the weird, the wonderful, and the obscure treasures from our past. He uses storytelling magic, found film footage, old photos and artifacts to bring our state’s heritage to life in an entertaining and education presentation. 4:30 p.m. Sanctuary Sylvia Nobel Williams, noted mystery story author will be featured. Whodunit stories that are fascinating to hear about.

“The Dueling Divas” - featuring Pianists Ashley Strawser and Andria Fennig in concert. They will entertain with selections ranging from “Scaramouche by Milhaud to Points on Jazz by Dave Brubeck.”

“What Happens When Congress Tries to Pass a Law” presented by Dr. Bonnie F. Saunders, Bonnie's Ph.D. is in U.S. history from the University of Connecticut. For almost 20 years, she taught history at the college level in Connecticut and Massachusetts. From 1999 to the present, she has been an adjunct history professor at Glendale Community College in Glendale.

Benevilla started by and for our community in 1981. This program enriches lives of West Valley residents by serving older adults with disabilities, children and the families who care for them.

6:00 p.m. Sanctuary With 18 instrumentalists and a vocalist or two, the Big Band from Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West is sure to provide an enjoyable evening of entertainment playing a variety of familiar tunes from the 30’s through the 90’s. February 5, 2020 4:30 p.m. Sanctuary (only program presented at this time) Israel Part I - Diane and David Reesor, world travelers who have given ALC armchair tours of their adventures will give an arm-chair tour in a two-part program on their most recent trip to Israel. 5:15 p.m. Fellowship Hall Catered Dinner Menu: Spaghetti Italian Garden Salad Garlic Bread Sheet Cake 6:00 p.m. Sanctuary The West Side Tremble Clefs (WSTC), a local group affiliated with the Parkinson Network of Arizona and part of a nationwide music therapy program for people with Parkinson’s disease, blend strong voices to totally entertain. February 12, 2020 4:30 p.m. Sanctuary (only program presented at this time) Israel - Part 2 Dianne and David Reesor, bring the second part of their fascinating trip to Israel.

February 19, 2020 4:30 p.m. Choir Room Debbie Nelson will present a six-week program video entitled “The Gospel According to Matthew.” This video is extremely well done. It was presented several years ago as a WNA program and was received with accolades. It is well worth offering again. 4:30 p.m. A/B Connie Sheets, member of the Phoenix Genealogy Society, will give practical and easy tips on the best ways to research your family history. 5:15 p.m. Fellowship Hall Catered Dinner Menu: Scalloped Potatoes and Ham Peas Jello Salad Cookies Roll/butter

The Sun City Choraliers present a concert “Memories.” Listeners will hear many familiar songs from the 40’s - present day. One of their songs is a unique piece called “Past Life Memories,” inspired by the Australian Aborigines. It consists of bell-like, whistle sounds which happen when the acoustics of the venue and the perfect intonation of the singers are in union. This is their Spring Concert for ALC.

Robert Sanders, Regional Director, Emergency Services at Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, will speak about the areas his areas that oversee the food pantries, SNAP, utility assistance, and homeless program. He will also include a brief overview of other Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest programs.

Wednesday Night Alive (WNA)

Ministry of American Lutheran

Church combines congregational

fellowship with community outreach

to inspire, educate, motivate.

WNA is a midweek opportunity

that begins at 4:30 p.m. with two

programs. A catered dinner is served

at 5:15 p.m. with another program

featured at 6 p.m. Presentations

include guest speakers on a multitude

of topics, videos and an assortment

of music and worship programs.

All programs are free.

Dinner tickets are $8 and are available

after each weekend worship service,

on Wednesday night or in the church

office Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a

deadline of Monday noon prior to that

week's programs. You must have a

ticket to attend dinner. No telephone reservations will be taken.
