Letter to Our Readers During these “dog days of summer,” many of us head to the beach to relax in the sun, read a book or just nap. For others, the beach offers an opportunity to watch incredible action or to even take part. Take a few minutes to learn about the surfing, volleyball and frisbee activities and events taking place on our beaches by reading our feature about New Jersey Beach Sports.
Looking for a different dining experience? Just walk through the doors of the Tilted Kilt in East Brunswick. Experience a Celtic (Scottish-Irish-English) pub and eatery where the costumed servers (Tilted Kilt Girls) will offer fine food, attentive service and friendly conversation. Experience the venue’s concept: “The Best Looking Sports Pub You’ve Ever Seen.”
Next, true “Jersey-ites” will enjoy this month’s band profile on a renowned Bruce Springsteen tribute band -- The Rising. They’ve packed venues around the world and throughout our state playing five decades of music from the “Boss” and his E Street Band. Then, learn a bit about a young, bright and ambitious lady who loves both her jobs. She bartends at Fireside Grill & Bar in Marlboro and in her spare time takes care of animals at a local veterinarian’s office. Read about Nicole Rivas, our Mixologist-of-the-Month.
For theater-goers searching for a unique experience, we’ve uncovered a little known gem in Beach Haven on LBI: the Surflight Theatre. This venue offers performances of top Broadway shows, features well known comedians and musicians, and like the Count Basie Theater, also is a learning annex offering children’s classes and workshops. Take your kids for a visit and stop by the adjacent Show Place Ice Cream Parlour.
Ok, now that activities for the month have been offered for your consideration, by our staff of writers, get out there to dine, drink, dance and be entertained …before the summer ends!

Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery / East Brunswick, NJ
by CLARE MARIE CELANO
If you want an authentic Scottish-Irish-English dining and entertainment experience -- walk through the doors of the Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery in East Brunswick and simply -- enjoy!
This contemporary Celtic-themed fun sports pub offers great food, beers on tap, entertainment, a full-service bar and can also accommodate private parties.
The Celtic and Gaelic influences are reflected in the decor, food, excellent service and in the servers’ exquisite costuming -- a truly beautiful hallmark of The Tilted Kilt. According to Charles Hunter, General Manager of the East Brunswick location, the costumes worn by servers have a registered tartan pattern and is trademarked.
The pub is known for its expertly prepared food, wide selection of alcoholic beverages and sports bar atmosphere, and also for its “Tilted Kilt Girls.” Tilted Kilt was conceived
to be a contemporary, Celtic-themed sports pub staffed with beautiful servers in plaid kilts and matching plaid tops. “We consider our Kilt Girls to be ‘connection makers,’ as well as ‘relationship builders.’ We expect our Kilt Girls to exceed expectation through stellar service and to wow you with their interpersonal skillset.”
The Tilted Kilt concept is expressed in its motto, “The Best Looking Sports Pub You’ve Ever Seen! ®” “This expression is coined by pub officials and we stand by it,” Hunter
says. “Where else can your drinking experience be one of vision as well as taste and temperature?” The Tilted Kilt was conceived in Las Vegas by successful restaurateur Mark DiMartino. The owners of the Tilted Kilt in East Brunswick, Vishnu Seetharaman, Tito Shah, Mihir Kothari, and Mansinh Chaudhari, have seen such great success with their East Brunswick location, they’re opening another in Wayne, NJ.
The pub offers various Special Nights, for instance, “SIN” Monday (Service Industry Night) when workers in the service industry receive 25% off the entire check from 8:00 pm to close, Ladies Night is held every Wednesday and World Tavern Poker Night takes place on Wednesday as well. In addition, every Tuesday they play Twisted Trivia and every other Tuesday Karaoke follows Trivia. And, August will see the launching of a new pastime at the Tilted Kilt: a dart league. Also, children eat free every day during the summer break.
Enjoy 31 TVs and two big screens located around the dining room and at the bar. Tilted Kilt offers patrons all sports packages, as well, as the UFC pay-per-view fights, shown as pay-per-view boxing championships with no cover charge. The bar and the dining room are incorporated into a large room with a community table in the center. A garage door at the bar opens to the patio for outdoor dining.
For beer aficionados, The Tilted Kilt is renowned. Says Hunter, “The House Draft is the TK Lager. This is actually Killian’s Irish Red, a great red beer that guests can’t get enough of. We just started a new IPA called Evil Genius, and this is a fun beer. It’s crisp and finishes well. We also offer ‘the usual suspects’ (Heineken, Guinness and Bass, etc.) for those who are set in their ways,” he smiles. “On August 6, we will launch a fresh new menu country wide...
We will be adding and removing items, but don’t fear…
even though the Drunken Clams are coming off the menu we’ll continue to feature it as a blackboard special,” Hunter promises.
Some of the tasty Irish fare includes TK Irish Nachos, freshly cooked crispy potato chips covered in cheese sauce, seasoned, ground beef and tomatoes, or the Classic Big Arse” Hamburger, delicious Sterling Silver USDA choice ground chuck, grilled to perfection and served on a fresh bun; or Maggie Mae’s Fish & Chips, a true English Pub Classic of battered cod filet with a creamy tartar dipping sauce and side of homemade cole slaw.
The most popular dessert? The Brownie Guilt. “Notice that the name insinuates you are doing something bad,” Hunter quips. The Tilted Kilt also caters celebrations and Fantasy Football on site and does off-premise catering as well. The outdoor patio can be rented for private functions. So visit the Tilted Kilt where good times are always on tap, the service is outstanding and the scenery, well it speaks for itself!

Sporting a playlist featuring five decades worth of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hits, The Ris-ing packs venues across the world as they and their fans pay tribute to one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. Made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Tom Vitorino, saxophonist Bobby Holley, drummer Owen Goldman, pianist Alex Rice, guitarist Brian Stewart, bassist Dan Hange and organist Dave Lewis, The Rising pours their passion, energy and talent into each performance in order to honor and pay tribute to The Boss and his legions of fans across the globe.
As much as Vitorino would like to take credit for working hard to emulate The Boss while on stage, it just naturally comes out that way. When he sound checked Springsteen’s “Stolen Car” at The Stone Pony in As-bury Park in 1998, the owner thought Springsteen was actually on stage. “I’d be a better actor than Marlon Brando if I could sound like Bruce for four hours,” said Vitorino, who adds that the only bad part is he has trouble making original music because people always tell him there’s already a Bruce Springsteen.
A few years later at the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Reunion Tour, he met saxophonist Bobby Holley and after someone joked they looked like Springsteen and late E Street Band member Clarence Clem-ons, they decided to jam together and the result was instantaneous ignition.
The Rising has played around the world and has received outstanding reactions from all crowds. Even in Europe The Rising packs the house. From music academies in the United Kingdom to The Riviera in Spain, Vitorino was surprised to see how many fans were singing every word to every song; it’s a testament to Springsteen’s global impact. Here in the U.S., The Rising has gone across the nation and love to play those big, nameless outdoor venues. Locally the band has performed in Downtown Freehold (Springsteen’s home town) and at Asbury Park’s Wonder Bar. Yet, although he has performed at the Stone Pony with other bands, Vitorino is unlikely to take The Rising there, because, as it is the venue where Springsteen launched his ca-reer, Vitorino considers it hallowed ground.
Aside from just covering the legendary Springsteen, Vitorino is in it for the connections with his band and the audience. “The guys in my band, they’re my band. This isn’t something that we slapped together; these guys are my friends and it’s a relationship that supersedes what we do,” he musician relates. “When you see a band it’s important they share that connection and the connection is shared with the audience.” The band’s relationship with the audience is key as they are ultimately the ones who make each and every performance special. From 1975’s Born to Run to 2012’s Wrecking Ball and everything in between, the hardcore and ca-sual fans alike can take in each song and create a bond with the band on stage.
The Rising is as big on giving back to the community as they are in generating a connection with their audi-ence. The band’s “Live in Los Angeles” DVD is for sale on its website for the cost of just the shipping fee, and for each one sold a dollar is donated to the United Nations World Food Programme and to Feeding America. Vitorino believes altruism and entertainment go hand in hand and music in its truest form gives back to a society in many ways. For example, he says, food banks are important because it’s often families who need it and while cries to rally around natural disaster efforts eventually fade, there’s always a constant need for helping the average family that is living below the poverty line and has trouble finding something to eat every night. “It’s really important that not just us as entertainers, but everybody should be able to give something back,” emphasized Vitorino. “It’s very important that we all understand if you have the wherewithal, you should give back something.”
So for a boss time listening to an authentically perfect Boss tribute, be sure to check out The Rising. For free previews, booking information, tour dates and more, visit TheRising.tv.

Nicole Rivas BY CLARE MARIE CELANO
She’s young, bright, ambitious and full of the energy needed to do the work she loves, which includes bartending and working with animals.Bartender Nicole Rivas, of Manalapan, makes maximum use of every bit of time she has, working two jobs and working on the next chapter of her life -- studying to become a veterinarian. She graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and animal science.“I love bartending, working with people and the pace,” Rivas says of her job at the Fireside Grill & Bar, a lively, popular sports bar and restaurant in Marlboro. She also loves taking care of animals, and she gets the opportunity to do this three days a week as a veterinarian technician at the office of Dr. Kelly O’Connor at Marlboro Animal Hospital, where she has served as a staff member for three
years. Rivas originally applied as a volunteer at the animal hospital to obtain the required experience needed to apply to veterinary school. And Rivas was no stranger to volunteer work, having served as an EMT for Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad.
She decided to swap helping people for helping animals. “Animals are much cuddlier and cuter, they don’t judge you and they don’t complain so much,” she chuckles. “After one month of volunteering at the animal hospital, Dr. O’Connor asked me if I wanted to work for her,” Rivas said. At the animal hospital, she runs blood work for the animals, and helps the doctor prep animals for surgery, among many other basic duties at the animal hospital.
At home, Rivas is “pet mom” to Duchess, a bloodhound; Chloe, a cocker spaniel; Roxanne, a Yorkie; and Bailey, her cat. She is considering
applying to several veterinary programs, including one at Ross University in the Caribbean and Purdue University in Indiana.
So how does showing up for two jobs on a regular basis work for this bartender/vet tech?
“Perfectly,” smiles Rivas, adding, “I love running around like a lunatic in both jobs.”

About the author
Kim Haasarud is a James Beard-honored mixologist, author, and beverage consultant. She conceives her signature cocktails much as Alice Waters would create a specialty dish, taking inspiration from market-fresh, high quality ingredients.
You won’t find the standard Cosmopolitan or mix-based Margarita on Haasarud’s ever-changing bar card. Instead, depending on the occasion or the season, she might shake up Martini infusing teas with fresh muddled fruits, or concoct a Margarita with ripe kumquats or a combination of kiwis and fresh herbs.
Haasarud’s liquid cuisine has stirred up a huge following in both New York and Los Angeles. She works with such groups as: PF Changs, Wyndham Worldwide Hotels & Resorts, OMNI, Ritz Carlton, Mastro’s, Z’Tejas, Darden, Brinker, TGI Fridays and hundreds of restaurant and wine and spirit clients have commissioned specialty cocktails by Haasarud, including Moet-Hennessy, SKYY Spirits, Future Brands, Diageo, Maxim, and Pepsico to name just a few.

NJ Beach SportsThe true dog days of summer are here. August, sans any holiday, is a 31-day stretch of heat, sun ... and fun! To top off the joy, the Atlantic Ocean has warmed up to cool you down; its temperature range is usually pitch-perfect for ocean swimmers, especially those who recoil at its earlier summer chill.
The beach is most Jersey residents’ favorite place to play and relax. It is a pleasant escape for those who want to relax in the sun, read-ing, doing crossword puzzles or just taking a nap. It is also the perfect backdrop to watch some incredible action and even take part.
More and more, we can watch or take part in surfing, volleyball and frisbee tossing. Here at VENUES NJ, we hopefully anticipate a beach football league to start (anyone?).
SURFINGWith waves crashing and rolling on 130 miles of beaches, New Jersey is home to what many consider to be some of the best surfing on the East Coast -- from Sandy Hook to Cape May, surfers of all levels often find hours of great waves all year long. Great surfing can be had at numerous beaches including but not limited to Spring Lake, Seaside Heights, Manasquan, Ocean City, and Wildwood.
As more people become active and seek to get in shape via a fun sport rather than being a gym-machine jockey, surfing is on the rise. And right-fully so, this is not the sport many people can just buy equipment for and simply start. There are several terrific surf schools for the whole family to learn ... and become an an-nual family tradition.
Coastline Adventures (njsurfschool.com) based in Brick has created surfing camps and lessons with quality and safety-minded in-struction, a dynamic curriculum, as well as providing surfing equipment. According to its website, it “presents surfing as a lifestyle cover-ing water safety, ocean science, environmental awareness, surf etiquette, health and fitness and cultural heritage.”
Coastline Adventures Surfing School of New Jersey offers a variety of ways to learn to surf -- private or semi-private les-sons, several half-day kids’ Bill-abong camps, weekend camps for girls, women and adults; surf parties and corporate team building. Private group and corporate lessons are taught in Asbury Park, Long Branch and Seaside Heights.
Based in Bradley Beach and Belmar, Summertime Surf (summertimesurf.com) teach-es folks of all ages and abilities how to surf. Private lessons, according to its website run for one hour and 15 minutes, and include the use of its surfboards and wetsuits. Schedule either a private one-on-one lesson with an instructor, or come with a friend or
family member and save. S u m m e r t i m e Surf will hold the Women’s Surf Weekend (August 3 and 4) at Lake Terrace Beach, Bradley Beach, created to “in-spire, motivate and empower women through
surfing,” according to the website. The school has also partnered with Lightly Salted Surf Mercado in Asbury Park to offer Adult Surf Camp. This is a unique opportunity to meet
other novice surfers and get tips from pro-fessionals including lessons on how to un-derstand surfing conditions, giving the surf report, using surf forecasts, ocean safety, and proper techniques. August dates are: 10 and 11, 17 and 18, and 24 and 25.
A more jovially named but still high-quality
surf school is Pigdog Surf Academy (pigdog-surfacademy.com), which enjoys educating its students about not only how to surf, but ocean safety and awareness, ocean environmental-ism, and a healthy, physically fit lifestyle. It runs surf classes year round.
Bradley Beach-based expert surfer Shawn Zappo also provides surfing lessons for indi-viduals, couples and families; he offers private lessons that only need to be scheduled about two weeks in advance. Visit him on Facebook at Surf Lessons Jersey Shore (some great pho-tos here too!).
To continue one’s surf education, it’s worth a trip slightly off the beach to the New Jersey Surf Museum located at the Tuckerton Sea-port. According to its website, tuckertonsea-port.org, the museum “explores the historic connections to the sport – and the lifestyle – of the New Jersey surfer. Exhibits in the museum cover the origins of surfing and how it came to

NJ Beach Sports Note: For an updated listing of which beaches allow surfing and other activities, visit the comprehensive “2013 Jersey Shore Guide” on NJ.com. Beaches are listed in alphabetical order by shore county. This particular web portal also con-tains a diverse array of beach feature articles -- we highly recommend it. Enjoy your August and see you at the beach!
New Jersey in 1912. The museum also explores the close connection of surfing to the environment and the science of waves. A large collection of important surfboards is on display along with memorabilia and surf art.”
Surfers and surf fans must flock to Belmar’s renowned 18th Avenue Beach September 12-15 where the famous annual Foster’s Belmar Pro takes place. Traveling pros come from Australia, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Europe, South Africa, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and all over the US. The Fosters Belmar Pro is a time when the sport’s famous athletes are right there to watch and meet for autographs. For all the de-tails, visit belmarpro.com.
VOLLEYBALLWe’ve all learned how to play it in school, and many of us got a thrill when the ball descended in our zone. Volleyball can be quite addicting to play and to watch -- as a spectator, this sport showcases the essence of true teamwork at lightning speed and with grace.
Volleyball on the beach goes hand in hand, and the added tension of sand makes for more of a challenge. And we can enjoy it right here!
Great American Volleyball (GAV, volleyamerica.com) is a Jersey Shore original. According to its website, “In 2002, local beach volleyball veteran Wayne Gant started Great American Volleyball. Wayne started playing volleyball in high school, and quickly became one of New Jer-sey’s best beach players. After climb-ing the ladder of divisions on the JSVBA, East End, and other local volleyball tours, Wayne noticed over several years that participation was declining. Determined to save this great sport, Wayne decided to create
his own beach volleyball tour.”
GAV hosts the following beach volleyball tournaments through-out September: Dog Days Tourna-ment, in Point Pleasant, August 3 and 4, for adult men and women,
while August 4 also in Point Pleasant will also see the Junior’s Rising Star Tournament featuring boys and girls 18 and under. The Juniors Champi-onships will be held at Seaside Heights on August 11; and the following weekend, this beach will also feature the popular DAG Tournament for men and women. Check out the GAV Smack Down at Point Pleasant Beach, August 24 and 25, for men and women; and the GAV Sizzler for men’s and women’s competition at Pt. Pleasant Beach September 7 and 8. Head over to Seaside Heights, September 14 and 15 and September 21 and 22 for the Great Seaside Bash and GAV Season Finale, respectively.
There is more! Reflecting that it is truly Jersey Strong, Sea Bright Beach Volleyball is back! The leagues began in mid-June, and the organization is quick to thank the Sea Bright lifeguards for helping to sift and clean the beach “court.” Visit its Facebook page or email [email protected] for more information how to support this popular Sea Bright beach attraction.
FRISBEEThere is indeed something magical about viewing a frisbee tournament. A simple, artful flick of one’s wrist and the disk swiftly sails smoothly through the air to another, who quickly flicks it back. And the beach with the ocean rolling in the background is the perfect setting for such masters.
Monmouth fris-bee players can join a brand new group started last month in Long Branch by Geo Burke, Ultimate Frisbee Jersey Shore. Find the group on meetup.com/NJ Frisbee. The group hosts frisbee play-ing around the shore area and the site will give full information about
future meetups.
Recently, the annual Co-Ed Ultimate Beach Frisbee Tournament took place in Wildwood; each year, this is the largest beach Fris-bee tournament in the world featuring four-on-four team com-petition for players of all levels ages 18 and over. More than 400 teams from all over the US converge in Wildwood to compete. According to W2BU, Inc. the parent company of Wildwood Beach Ultimate Tournament, 2011 had been its record-breaking year for charitable disbursements -- it gave nearly $30,000 to a variety of locally worthy causes. Check out wildwoodultimate.com.

A Review
PIPPIN the MUSICALThe first Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning 1972 pop musical Pippin opened in April 2013 at the Music Box Theatre in a new, circus-inspired staging from Tony Award-nominated director Diane Paulus and circus artist Gypsy Snider.
Pippin has a score by Academy Award winner and Tony nominee Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, “The Prince of Egypt”) and a book by Tony nominee Hirson.
With an extremely catchy pop score and original staging by the incomparable Bob Fosse, “Pippin” is told from the viewpoint of a mysterious “Leading Player” who invites the audience to observe how Pippin attempts in vain to find complete fulfillment in life through such activities as sex, politics and middle-class monogamy.Diane Paulus, who helmed the Public Theater’s visionary revival of “Hair” and last season’s “Porgy and Bess,” offers a stunning, circus-themed production that
seamlessly combines dance choreography in the trademark Fosse style with countless acrobatic feats.
Although the Leading Player was originally played by Ben Vereen, it is an androgynous role that can just as easily be done by a female, and Patina Miller (“Sister Act”) delivers an absolutely sensational, thoroughly sexy and authoritative performance.
Miller is joined by an exceptional supporting cast including the hilarious Andrea Martin as Pippin’s loose-living grandmother, Terrence Mann as his frustrated father and Charlotte d’Amboise as his sexpot stepmother.
Since the musical opens with a song called ‘’Magic to Do,’’ Paulus stuffs the production not only with onstage illusions but with eye-popping contributions by the Montreal-based 7 Fingers circus company. It’s amazing how Chet Walker’s Fosse-inspired choreography blends seamlessly with the hand-walking, knife-throwing,
backflipping, human-jump-roping antics of the enviably limber cast.
Miller brings a feline slinkiness to the Leading Player that can turn outright catty when the troupe seems to stray too far from the supposed script. Matthew James Thomas (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) displays a bashful, aw-shucks charm in his role, and Charlotte D’Amboise vamps playfully as his scheming stepmom. But the unlikely showstopper is 66-year-old SCTV alum Andrea Martin, who takes to the trapeze to belt out her grandmotherly carpe-diem anthem ‘’No Time at All.’’ Dangling high above the stage, she embodies this utterly delightful revival’s big-top message: No matter our age, we need never outgrow the capacity for wonder .

Behind the FootlightsIn our never-ending to quest to highlight new and exciting theaters, my illustrious editor-in-chief was kind enough to point out to me this hidden gem, right here in the heart of our own Jersey Shore. The Surflight Theatre can be found in Beach Haven, on Long Beach Island. In existence since 1950, this stalwart has been entertaining us with B r o a d w a y style shows and local pro-ductions for over 60 years.
Right now, as I write for you, South Pacific is running until July 28. Yes, I know you aren’t reading this until Au-gust 1st, but that’s what we in the business call “publication timing.” All this month, from July 31-August 24, Les Miserables is playing. Just a short interlude here. I first saw this show in the late 80s and I was not impressed. Then I read the Victor Hugo book and saw the play again. It is, without question, my favorite musical in the history of theater. Anyway, the rest of the theatri-cal lineup at the Surflight Theatre for the year includes You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown-The Musical, Our Town, by the great Thornton Wilder, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
Much like the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, the Surflight is also something of a learning annex. It runs children’s classes and workshops as well as master classes for up-and-coming professional actors who are just learning the audition process.
Now theater alone does not define the Surflight. Nu-merous come-dians and musi-cians also grace this stage. Com-ics Caroline Rhea and Colin Quinn (directed by Jer-
ry Seinfeld) will both be appearing, as will the amazing Journey tribute band, Voyage. If you close your eyes, you truly cannot tell the difference between Voyage and Jour-ney. There are also quite a number of chil-dren’s shows, like Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty.
Adjacent to the theatre is the Show Place Ice Cream Parlour. Surflight Theatre found-er Joseph P. Hayes concocted this idea as a way to raise additional funds. Hayes’ imagi-nation took him to an other era, where families could sit and enjoy each other in simpler times. The wait staff are not just servers but also entertainers, with a routine
of music and gimmicks that has endured since its opening in 1975. With a delight-ful array of menu items, i.e. Funny Girl, with butter pecan ice cream, caramel topping, chopped walnuts, whipped cream, and the proverbial cherry on top; and the scrump-tious concoction called The Music Man, a huge parade of chocolate, peanut butter, and vanilla fudge ice creams, followed by rows of hot fudge and caramel toppings,
chopped walnuts, whipped cream, and that famous cherry; and the Gypsy Rose Lee Strippers (nothing on them, just the ice cream), this raved-about establishment is an ice cream lover’s fantasy. (Uh-oh, am I making you ravenous?)
Do yourself a favor the next time you rent a house down the shore. Take an evening to get some tickets and see one of the first class shows at the Surflight and enjoy an ice cream afterwards. This is a must-see experi-ence for the whole family. I have a feeling even that moody teenager will love it, even though he or she would never admit it.
For additional information, go to their web-site at www.surflight.org and theshow-place.org.

GRAND OPENINGExpectations
Note: Recent events and discussions over the past few months with venue owners and some readers of our publication have led me to repeat this message that I wrote almost a year ago.
During the past year, I have witnessed a number of restaurant and bar venue closings, change of ownership and re-openings. With this in mind, I would like to address an extremely important issue: Grand Opening Expectation.
Throughout the past seven years, I have been invited to and attended many a Grand Opening event within the hospitality industry. Quite often, the expectations and / or “hype” preceding the actual occasion far exceeds the event itself. There are numerous reasons for this reality. On the side of the venue management, the rush to pen the business (for financial rewards, etc.) is often premature; on the side of the public, the expectation for first-class food & service is unrealistic. As a result, both sides often end up disappointed.
After spending many months, and sometimes years in building, renovating and preparing the venue, hiring staff and procuring the right vendors, owners need to take the necessary time to properly train their staff and execute as many “dry runs” or soft openings as necessary to ensure they are truly ready to meet their clientele. The result will be satisfied customers with a desire to return …. and tell their friends.
The public, on the other hand, should be aware and realize that too often, Grand Opening events mean overcrowding, long waits and often, less than first-rate food preparation and service. The result: a premature decision never to return.
While it takes time, effort and skill to prepare for the opening of a business, always remember, first impressions are lasting and hard to change.
I am simply advocating patience and the right mindset when trying out a brand new restaurant, pub or bar establishment. I can certainly attest, after years of working professionally to help market hospitality venues, that nearly all owners and management do their absolute best to get it right for you, the customer. But with anything that is brand new, some challenges arise that are often quickly addressed and then fixed. It’s the nature of the business.
The Last Word.
