Vehicle Suspension
Vehicle suspensions were invented during WWII by an American engineer named J.
Walter Christie and was a major game changer for the war effort.
The suspension technology took many years of effort and was used effective on various
types of vehicles.
This article is going to help you understand how vehicle suspension works and the many
benefits that they offer to us.
There are various types of vehicle suspensions, including hydraulic suspension,
air suspension and spring suspension.
Vehicle Suspension and Their Many Advantages
Have you noticed that your office chair can easily be adjusted up and down? This is due
to the hydraulic cylinder function that is designed into the chair.
This same technology is used with modern robotic arms in many manufacturing plants
around the world.
These same types of hydraulic suspension systems are used for off road vehicles and
offer the benefit of lifting the vehicle quickly to avoid damage to the undercarriage of the
vehicle while traveling over rough terrain.
The vehicle suspensions of today’s 18-wheelers use this technology so that the truck’s height can be easily adjusted as
necessary, based on the varying heights of different loading docks.
The old technology of springs has been replaced with the new technology of rubber mounts, which not only makes adjusting the height of the trucks
easier, but these rubber mounts are also very durable and work well in any weather condition.
Vehicle Suspension and How They Work
Before the rubber mount technology was introduced, shock absorbers were in place to
handle the entire vehicle weight.
Engineers discovered that these shock absorbers were easily blown because there wasn’t enough counter resistance in their
design to handle the vehicle weight.
Vehicle suspensions today, using this rubber mount technology, offers a much improved
personal experience for truck drivers on bumpy roads
Normal Cars and Vehicle Suspension
Today’s passenger vehicle drivers are also benefiting greatly from this ever improving
technology.
The improvement in the design of vehicle suspensions has been constant since their
introduction in World War II.
Although not sexy, vehicle suspensions are a critical component of today’s vehicle design.
For those of us who sometimes find the need to visit a chiropractor, these vehicle
suspensions make the need for that type of medical attention less frequent.
