VDI View Installation Instructions for Mac BEFORE INSTALLING – A few assumptions are being made- o You know how to use your computer. This includes how to adjust settings and preferences, download and install software, and generally how to function on your computer. o Your computer is (generally speaking) a current model, with a current Operating System. VDI will not install and run on some older operating systems. We also assume it is a Windows or Apple operating system. As a campus, we do not support Linux. There may be individuals at the Help Desk who are fluent in Linux and able to help you, there may not be. If you are a remote student away from campus, we have no support for your other operating system o If you do not know how, or otherwise need assistance, and are in the Rexburg area, please bring your computer to the Computer Help Desk in the McKay building. If you are a remote student and not in the area, you will find it beneficial to find a computer savy friend to walk through the install process with you. You may call the Help Desk for assistance, but typically the call taker will make a ticket and route it to an IT Engineer. However the logistics of location may limit what we can do to help you. If you are using snow leopard, you will need to update your operating system to OSX 10.6.8 for VMware to work on your computer. VDI View Installation Instructions for Mac

BEFORE INSTALLING – A few assumptions are being made-o You know how to use your computer. This includes how to adjust settings and

preferences, download and install software, and generally how to function on your computer.

o Your computer is (generally speaking) a current model, with a current Operating System. VDI will not install and run on some older operating systems. We also assume it is a Windows or Apple operating system. As a campus, we do not support Linux. If you are using snow leopard, you will need to update your operating system to OSX 10.6.8 for VMware to work on your computer.

Once you have updated your operating system to at least 10.6.8, you will need to get the Remote Desktop Connection Client download from the internet. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18140

to get the RDC Client. You will see the download in the lower right of the screen. Once you have these steps completed, you are good to proceed with step one. Your computer may already have this installed.

Step 1: type “https://vdiview.byui.edu” into your URL.

Scroll down until you see VMWARE Horizon client for Mac…

Look for the Mac Download:

Step 3: Click “Go to Downloads.” and download the client software to your desktop.

Your download will appear here: Once it’s finished loading, double click on it.

Once you’ve clicked the download, the following screen will appear:

Step 5: Click Agree:

Next, this box will appear. Step 6: Drag the VMware View Client into your Applications:

Step 7: After installing, Go into your applications folder, find the “VMware View Horizon Client” icon and double click it:

The following screen will appear:

Step 8: Click “Open.”

The following box will appear:

Step 10: Type “vdiview.byui.edu” in the box asking for the Hostname. Only add the vdiview client. If you add additional brokers you may have issues with your screen sizes.

Step 11: Hit “Continue.”

It will add a cloud for you titled “vdiview.byui.edu” as the connection server. Once you see that this cloud is added, go into your library, then your preferences and look for the file titled “com.vmware.view.plist” and remove it from your preferences. Delete this file. This will help to optimize screen size.

Step 12: Double Click the cloud.

Step 13: The following box will appear: type in your Net ID (your school username and password you use to login to I-Learn) into the spaces provided. Leave “BYUI” as the domain. Click “Continue.”

The following screen will appear. Leave “RDP” in the lower box.

Step 14: Double click the screen labeled “Laptop.” If you do not connect, but instead get an error message saying something like "This Desktop does not support the requested display protocol. Please contact your system administrator" then your Microsoft remote Desktop connectio0n is either not working, not installed properly, or most likely – not installed. Please go back to the link on page 1.

This box will pop up, click Allow:

Next, the windows screen will load, connecting you to VMware.

Once your screen looks like this, you’re finished. To log out, click start and log off.
