vce u4 psychology - extinction and spontaneous recovery
DESCRIPTION
There are only 3 slides here, these slides accompany the youtube clip published on Exinction and Spontaneous Recovery in relation to Classical Conditioning - Pavlov's experiment in particular. See my web for access: www.ePsychVCE.comTRANSCRIPT
Elements of Classical conditioningExtinction• occurs in classical conditioning when a CR no longer
occurs when the CS is presented E.g. The Dog stopped salivating after a while when
Pavlov rang bell and did not present the food.
CC: Spontaneous Recovery• Reappearance of a C.R following a rest period (i.e. when no C.S is
presented)• But note: Spontaneous recovery occurred after the CR has been
extinguished (and a corresponding time gap)
E.g.For Pavlov’s experiment – 1. CS extinguished (i.e. bell – no food (UCS) – No response (CR)2. After a time gap 3. The CS (bell) is presented again (without the UCS - food) & the CR
results (salivation occurs)4. The CR has spontaneously recovered
