    Technical Information

    A Current Transducer is a device for measuring AC and DC currents based on the Hall-Effect technology.

    The general functionality is described in the following diagram:

    BFi OPTiLAS provides Current Transducer using the following two technologies:

    1) Open Loop Technology: 2) Closed Loop Technology:

    Advantages: Advantages:

    A current carrying conductor positioned through theaperture of the sensor creates a magnetic field that is

    proportionate to the current.This field is concentrated by the core and sensed by

    the Hall Effect element that is mounted in the air gap

    of the core.The Hall generator is connected to the input of theamplifier who amplified the voltage.

    The output is an output voltage.

    Open Loop Transducers use the simplestimplementation of the Hall-Effect.

    Closed Loop Transducers have a compensationcircuit that improves the performance.

    - Low power consumption

    The Advantages are giving the best solution for costeffective current measurement!

    The primary current lp produces a magnetic flux.

    This magnetic flux is aligned by a complementary

    flux produced by driving a current through thesecondary windings.

    A hall device and associated electronic circuitgenerate the compensating current that is used for theoutput.

    The conversion of the output current to an output

    voltage is easily done by adding a measurementresistor, RM, in series with the secondary coil.
