Chatter with Cathy

Wow! How time flies as this time last year I was entering your quilts

into the quilt show database to prepare for our show. To encourage

you to work on quilts this coming year to be ready for the 2020 quilt

show, I have another challenge: Complete Your PhD (Projects Half

Done). At the August meeting, I will have the forms for you to fill out

and this time we are working to complete 12 projects with the first

one due in October. Start looking through your sewing room for

these PHDs. In September I would like you to give me a copy of your

form as I want to keep a spreadsheet to see how many PhDs are com-

pleted so you could earn a Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude or even

Summa Cum Laude in quilting with a diploma to celebrate all your

completed projects. And, of course, there will be monthly prizes.

Mark your calendars for the Pennsylvania Quilt Extravaganza in Oaks,

PA on Sept. 12, 13, 14, and 15. I am still in need of volunteers to White

Glove on Saturday, Sept. 14 and to sell raffle tickets on each day.

Nancy Bills will talk about What to Do with Things You Don’t Know What to Do With. As soon as I heard Nancy speak, I started saving all

those salad containers I used to throw away. I'm not revealing any-

thing else. If your memory is excellent, you may be able to remember

all she says. If not, bring a piece of paper to jot down all her tips Just

come to the August meeting and learn a lot. Nancy has just written a

book containing many of her patterns, and she will have additional

patterns for us to buy.

September 17, 2019 Guild Meeting

Many of us anxiously await the night we see the Challenge Quilts.

There is so much creativity that I sometimes wonder how each quilter

comes up with her design. It is very hard to choose which quilt we

like more than any other. This is an exciting night, a night filled with

ideas and inspiration, a night to witness firsthand the quilts our

members have produced.

June Workshop - Show and Tell at July Meeting

Projects at the June workshop were a AccuQuilt Go Die Cutter Christmas tree quilt lead by Cathy

Fennell and a Cardinal wall hanging lead by Kate Sevensky.

Historian Wanted, Easy Job

Do you like to take pictures? Play with your com-

puter? Get on social media?

Well, what if I told you that you could do all of

these fun things and support our guild at the

same time? I am looking for someone to take over

as guild Historian starting in September.

That sounds complicated? Not really, I take pic-

tures at meetings and events that I attend. I get

pictures off Facebook from events I couldn’t get

to. I edit my pictures a little so that you all think I

am a better photographer than I really am. I share

pictures to our Facebook group and send to our

newsletter crew. I build a slideshow to share at

certain meetings. (Trick: I add the new pictures

each month so that it is just a small job, not a big

job with a deadline.) And I back it all up to a hard

drive. Really, that is it.

All you need is a digital camera, your computer,

and a little time each month to post the pictures,

share to the newsletter folks, and put them in

Powerpoint. What do you say? Is it something you

might be interested in? Please contact me if you

know you are interested or it you have some

questions.

New Members

Linda Jarosz did an online search to find us.

She has been sewing clothes since she was a

teenager. While she hasn’t taken any formal

quilt classes, she has made a bed size quilt.

Linda enjoys paper piecing along with sewing,

crochet, knitting, and any other craft. She is a

retired nurse.

Sharon Berry found us at the quilt show.

She likes a variety of quilt projects. She likes

knitting, crocheting, artwork, and drawing.

She belonged to a guild in New Hampshire.

Lynda Schulze heard about the guild from

her mother, Kathie Haney, who taught Lynda

how to quilt. She loves to make bags, skirts,

and quilts. Every baby shower finds Lynda

making a quilt for the new family member. She

also likes to make bed size quilts for her kids

and as gifts. Lynda also likes to cross stitch.

Deb, Rosemary, Vicki, & Gina display Sew Free projects

to chair Jean Corday at July meeting.

The Sew Free Club

It is summertime, it is vacation time, it is

hot and rainy, but that is not stopping our

Sew Free Club…this group of ladies is get-

ting a lot of sewing done!! This was very

evident at our show and tell at the July

meeting; several ladies completed the Like Riding a Bike and mini wallet projects.

What a nice variety of fabrics, colors, and

making it their own.

As we look ahead to the new assignment

that will be due in September, there are so

many choices with our small sized ban-

ners. There are 9 free patterns, each one

cuter than the next. I think these little

projects would make nice house warming

gifts or themed birthday gifts. I plan to

work on a couple more myself and they

are a very nice size to practice custom

quilting.

July Speaker - Rachel Rossi Rachel Rossi is a delightful young women

who literally grew up in a quilt shop

(owned by her mom). Her lecture was

Bringing Quilting to the Next Generation

and she offered a number of ideas to

interest potential new quilters. As Gloria

said, “Rachel’s quilts are happy” and by

the end of the evening we all heartily

agreed.
