As we roll into the home stretch of 2015, there will be a lot of activity going on at Valencia Cove. I am going to drop a little hint here, and before the end of the year residents are going to experience some grand events that will be available for all to enjoy.

The New Year’s Eve “Ring in the New” Celebration will be held in the Clubhouse Grand Ballroom. If you plan on attending, please make sure your check arrives to my attention at the Lifestyle Center Management Office prior to Thursday, October 15, by

4 p.m. At that time, reservations for the event will be drawn and assigned on a lottery basis. After reservations are confirmed, requests will be accepted for tables of eight. All seating will be assigned for this event.

For your entertainment pleasure, I am happy to announce the 2016 Show Entertainment Line-Up, and the fact that ticket purchases may be made conveniently online through the HOA website at www.valenciacovehoa.com. See the full-color brochure for more details! There is also a full-page on the website dedicated to show information where you may view performers’ videos and see just how great the line-up promises to be.

Owners that have closed on their homes after August 20, 2015 or new owners who have not had the opportunity to attend a prior welcome reception are invited. Newly closed owners are invited to the Lifestyle Center for an informal, small get-together. It is your opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding the Active Adult Lifestyle available to you at Valencia Cove. Valencia coVe cluB connecTionClubs are the cornerstone of active-adult communities. Valencia Cove residents are encouraged to contact Social Director Karyn Hargrove with any ideas or clubs that you would like to see get off the ground in our community. Karyn will be more than happy to meet with you and get the foundation of a club underway. We are currently building many clubs that would be attractive to residents who share common interests. The following clubs have been suggested, but need chairs: Biking, Color War, Cooking, Dining, Gardening, Mah Jongg, Men’s Club, Players Acting Group, Rummikub, Scrabble, Sports Outings, Stock, Theater, Travel, and Women’s Club. If you are interested in starting one of these clubs or would like to add a suggestion to the list, contact your Social Director.

Bunco cluB ~ Members ONLY are invited to play this fun game! There is no skill necessary, as it is an easy game to play. The game is limited to how many can play. Bridge cluB ~ NEW! The club’s goal is to provide a place for Cove residents, of all Bridge play levels, to meet and play bridge, improve their skills, and make new friends. cinema cluB ~ The Cinema Club’s mission is to feature a variety of carefully selected films that are known to be thought provoking and critically acclaimed. Films are to be featured in the Social Hall upon the completion of the Clubhouse. There will be a variety of art films that have not been played in the United States, and commercial/art film classics that will never become dated and bear repeating. Each presentation will open with an introduction by a speaker and, at the conclusion of a film, there will be a more thorough discussion among attendees and the facilitator. The first organizational meeting is not yet scheduled, however, stay tuned for details that will be announced here, via e mail blast and in the next newsletter. If you are interested in becoming a member of the club, please sign up in the Club Interest binder located in the kitchen of the Lifestyle Center. currenT eVenTs cluB ~ Participants present their diverse views on various topics in an intelligent, insightful and respectful manner. Meetings are scheduled in the Lifestyle Center at 1 p.m. on Thursdays, October 8 and 22, and November 8. dog loVers’ cluB ~ This club is for members to have fun with dogs, to learn more about the dogs we love, and to help more dogs have a good life. Members who join this club are not required to currently have dogs. All dog lovers are welcome! Our organizational membership meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20 in the Lifestyle Center at 7 p.m. This will be the first meeting to discuss the foundation of the club and topics of interest. The club has planned a “HALLOWEEN CANINE COSTUME PARTY” open to all Valencia Cove dogs and their parents on Saturday, October 31 at 1 p.m. at the Tennis Center and Parking Lot area. The entry fee is $5 per dog. All dogs must register by October 16. There will be prizes for best costumes, doggie treats and refreshments for humans too! Sign up now! golda meir oF Valencia coVe hadassah ~ Our next general meeting will be held on Monday, October 19 at 7 p.m. in the Lifestyle Center. men’s golF cluB ~ This club is open to all residents that have purchased a home at The Cove. The officers for 2015 are Reuben Rosenthal (President), Allan Zerulik (Vice President), Jeff Hessel (Vice President/Treasurer), and Jeff Sucoff (Tournament Director). We have been playing once or twice a week at a variety of courses around Palm Beach County. After we play, many of us have lunch at the various courses or area restaurants. We continue to add new members to our roster, as people move to the area and the community. Snowbirds, snowflakes and those living in the area, but not yet closed, are encouraged to join. High and low handicappers are welcome, as we play from multiple tee boxes. Current dues for the balance of 2015 are $25. Dues for 2016 will be $50, payable in January 2016. The VCMGC anticipates that its membership will exceed 100 homeowners by the end of the year. Our club has an online golf management system that allows members to sign up for various rounds and alerts them to future events and tournaments. new england cluB ~ This is a social club for all past and present New Englanders. Our first event was a Super Bowl Party at the home of Nancy and Randy Feld. painTing cluB For mixed media ~ Join us for a Mix and Mingle Meeting on Tuesday, November 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Lifestyle Center. Light refreshments will be served. The club is currently looking for residents who paint at any level in watercolor and acrylics. When the Arts & Crafts Studio is open, we will look forward to weekly recurring studio time to gather and paint. pap corps – The coVe chapTer oF The pap corps ~ NEW! This club is now forming. Our “Getting to Know You” meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lifestyle Center. Space is limited! The Pap Corps, Champions for Cancer Research, is one of the largest grass roots fundraising organizations in South Florida. computer 101 classes For “silver surfers”Tuesdays and Thursdays, November 3, 5, 10, 12, 17 & 19 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Lifestyle Center

Instructor Estee Gelman is the premier concierge for interactive technology for individuals age 55 and above. She eliminates the reluctance to use today’s technological devices by providing the tools toempowerstudentstofeelconfidentandsafewhilenavigatingtheinternet.

Each class is designed to help students engage and stay connected with family and friends via various Internet platforms. Tutorials include learning how to use chat, email and social media, while implementing general internet safety procedures.

Learninasmallclassroomgroup.Classsizeislimitedtofivestudentsto provide “hands-on” assistance. The small class size allows for individualized attention for every student. Classes are an hour and a half in length, providing enough time to be thorough without being overwhelming. Classes are geared toward teaching transferable skills, so students feel comfortable using their own devices.

welcome Tennis pro maTT spiegelPhil Flanagan is proud to announce the addition of Staff Professional Mathew S. Spiegel at Valencia Cove. Matt has an extensive background in tennis as a nationally-ranked junior and world-ranked doubles player, having played on the ATP world tour from 1992 – 1993.

A 1992 graduate of George Washington University in Washington, DC, as a four-year

scholarship athlete, Mathew’s professional career began with severalyearsinthefinanceandinvestmentarenas,movingintothetennis business in 2005. He has worked at several prestigious elite tennis academies, including the Harold Solomon Tennis Institute in Ft. Lauderdale, and he was the Junior Development Director at WoodfieldCountryClubinBocaRaton.Since2008,hehasbeenthe President and Owner of the M & M Tennis Academy, offering programs for juniors and adults, from amateur to professional levels.

laBor day BarBecueClose to 200 residents came out to the Valencia Cove Tennis Center and enjoyed a Labor Day BBQ and Celebration. The delicious barbecued food was plentiful and served fresh off the grill. The crowd mixed and mingled, with everyone making new friends and meeting new neighbors. DJ/Entertainer Billy Krankel sang along to the music, and one resident said he was so good she thought it was a record. Everyone had fun and was glad they came!
