ProtecTIER Terminology
Term Definition
Nominal capacity The amount of Recoverable User Data that can be stored in the TS7650G repository
Physical capacity The physical capacity used in the TS7650G repository
Factoring Ratio The ratio of nominal to physical capacity
Also called Hyperfactor Ratio, De-dup Ratio
Data Change Rate The rate at which the data received from the backup application changes from backup to backup. This measurement has most relevance when “like” backup policies are compared. (Data change rates may range from 1% to >25%, but is difficult to directly observe)
Data Retention Period The period of time (usually measured in days) that customers keep their disk-based backups on-line. This period of time typically ranges from a period of 30 to 90 days, but can be much longer.

Role Based Administration
Administrator has full access to the ProtecTIER system.
Note: Only one Administrator can be logged into the ProtecTIER system
at a time. If you log in as an Administrator while another Administrator is already
logged in, a notification pane is displayed informing you who is logged in and offering
to force that Administrator to log out.
Operator can access ProtecTIER Manager monitoring screens and
perform the following tasks:
– Toggle cartridges between read/write and read-only modes.
– Set the HyperFactor mode for libraries.
– Reset virtual tape drives and robots.
– Unload and moving cartridges from virtual tape drives.
Monitor can only access ProtecTIER Manager monitoring screens.

Create VTL / Drives / Virtual Media
The 2 IBM libraries offer:
• IBM Drivers
• Control Path Failover
• IBM i support
• ATL P3000 is the original emulation from Diligent
• DTC VTF is the original Diligent Library used for NetBackup
• IBM TS3500 is for TSM / BRMS etc
• IBM V-TS3500 is for NetBackup

Define the slots and convenience IO for
your library
Don’t skimp on the slots since you have to take the PT offline
to add moreLibraries attached to IBM i can have a maximum of 4096 positions where media can reside.
(That is, the total of the # drives, # convenience IO slots + number of media slots + 1 (for the picker) must be 4096 or less.
