International students on F-1 visas arerequired to obtain authorization towork from Duke Visa Services (DVS)regardless of whether the internship ispaid or unpaid. F-1 students must apply for CurricularPractical Training (CPT). Students on J1 will be able to utilizeAcademic Training to fulfil thisrequirement.

Visa ConsiderationsAn internship is defined by the following:

Internship with a corporation,institution or not-for-profit, orentrepreneurial venture*The expectation is for at least a6-week experience (cumulative)Can be paid or unpaid Degree requirement but not forcourse credit

Fuqua’s Applied Learning requirementallows Daytime MBA students todeepen their understanding of corebusiness concepts and complementtheir classroom experience. Studentsare expected to apply their learningthrough temporary employment with abusiness that matches their sector andfunction interests, allowing studentsthe potential for more immersiveclassroom experiences following theexperience and allowing for moreinformed career choices.
