was awarded with three teaching awards in 2013—the Inaugural Nanyang Education Award (College Level), the
School of EEE Nanyang Education Award and the School of EEE Year-2 Nanyang Education Award. Prior to
2013, A/Prof Goh was bestowed the Nanyang Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007, EEE Teaching
Excellence Awards in 2005, 2006, and 2009; and EEE Students’ Choice “Best Teacher” Awards in year 1997,
2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. She was also awarded “Teacher of the Year 2018 (Engineering
Science)” in REP. Please join us in welcoming A/Prof Goh to the REP.
New REP Leadership Team Member
On behalf of the REP community, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to
Associate Professor Tan Lay Poh for her dedication and commitment to REP. During her
tenure, she played a significant role in driving the full accreditation exercise for the REP.
She also streamlined the undergraduate curriculum and worked closely with REP Fellows
and students. Our heartiest congratulations to A/Prof Tan on her new appointment. We
wish her all the best with her future endeavours!
With effect from 1st June 2019, Associate
Professor Goh Wang Ling from the School of EEE
is the new Deputy Director (Undergraduate). She
has replaced Associate Professor Tan Lay Poh as
the latter has taken on a new appointment as the
Associate Chair (Academic) in the School of MSE
with effect from 1st June 2019.

Achievements
Most of you should be quite familiar with A/Prof Goh as she has been
teaching RE1014 Electronic and Information Engineering since R4.
She has held various administrative appointments in the school and
college level. She was the Associate Dean for Outreach & External
Relations in the College of Engineering Dean’s Office from January
2010 to December 2012, Assistant Head of Division in EEE from
September 2006 to June 2008, and Assistant Chair of Students
in EEE from July 2008 to December 2009. She was conferred the
National Day Award—the “Public Administration Medal (Bronze)” by
the President of the Republic of Singapore in 2010. The honour is
bestowed in recognition of her contribution to education in Singapore

It is confirmed! Convocation ceremony for the Class of 2019 will be held on 26 July 2019
(Friday) at 2.00 pm at the Nanyang Auditorium. We would like to invite R4 and their
parents to join us on this joyous occasion. We will also be having a pre-convocation event
on that day. Do look out for more updates on this event.

Celebrating Students' Achievements
Joint Champions and Runners up in SMRT Innovation Challenge 2019
Congratulations to 3 teams comprising a group of Year 2
students who came up as Joint Champion and runners-up
to the SMRT Innovation Challenge in April this year.
Team M Art EEE Rails and Team SM(A)RT tackled the
engineering problem statement which involved finding a
non-destructive way of visually inspecting the conditions
of rubber support bearings in underground tunnels,
working within an extremely limited clearance of 7 cm for
access to these bearings.

Our Year 1 students did well too at a recent Youth Innovation Showcase held in May this year. This event
enables local and regional youths to come together to showcase their innovative and cutting edge tech
prototypes. Teams showcase how their innovations will be able to change the future and enhance citizens’ life in
a Smart City. Team Whizz was the winner of Best of Show Award and Visitors’ Choice Award.

Best of Show Award and Visitors’ Choice Award in IMDA's Youth Innovation Showcase and Awards
Their winning entry focuses on personalised transportation that is
fast, affordable and reliable using autonomous e-scooters. It
offers on-demand booking for e-scooters in geofenced areas, with
self-redistributing, orientating, parking and charging features.
Whizz is able to respond to bookings made through the
application to navigate to its user’s location independently, and is
equipped with sensors to effectively detect obstacles to avoid
collisions. It also eliminates commuters' fear of missing the last
bus or train since it is available 24/7.
