"imilar to the Pirocystis hamulus species, while J ac q u e s and S o y e r(1977) believe that it Ibelong.s to the Noctilucacae family. The most recentunpublished investigatioons of S o u r n i a will probably 1hrow some lighton this problems.

We leaorded this species from the iŠibenik area (Ši station) at 10 mdepth, 21,62°C and 38,18%0 salinity on October 21, 1981 and from the Karde-ljevo area (Pi station) at 20 m depth, 17,53°C and 38,52%0 salinity on July 13,1982 (Fig. 1).*

CeH ,of sphaerical oody with two 1ong, more 'or less curved a,rms of openbracelet form. Girdle separates the ceH into two almost identical parts. Armtips are markedly thickened and rounded. 2. Corethron pelagicum f3run, new genus and new species in the Adriatic

A phytoplankton species, not known in the Adriatic up to now, has been,-

deterrnined from the material colleoted from the area .of oO<ilstal middleAdriatic in autumn 1981. After H u ste d t (1930) this is the Corethronpelagicum Brun species (Bacilla<riophyceae, Bacillariales, Melosiraceae, Core-thron). . .

.., . p~T(;thron genus reoeived specific status by many plantologists since itis a perfect example of a genus which undergoes a greart alnount of morfo-logical variaJtions according to the environmental oonditions under which itlives. He n de y 1(1937) decided that all the species of Corethron genusdesoribed so far were only ecological .forms and sY1nonyms .of the speciesCorethron cryophilum Castracane. .ThiJs author believes that this is the caseof a ,polyphasic species-system, and can only be understood oorrectly if thespecies is ~nceived as an .orbital I>ystem in a space time o:m>tinuum.

Corethron genus is far better repre.sented in the southern hemispherethan in the northern hemisphere. It is predominantly a oolder water species.

SmaH Illumber of specimens has been very rarely reoorded fr.om the Medi-terranean (P avi Il ard, 1916). This reoorded from the Gulf .of Lion, Pavil-lard reported as Corethron cryophilum Castracane, believing that it is thesynonim of Corethron pelagicum Erun species.

We recorded this species from Šj;benik station (Š1) in the central Adriatic.Sample was taken by a sampling bottle from 10 m at 38,5%0 Sal. and 21aC Ton October 21, 1981. (Fig. 1.) Description of Corethron pelagicum Brunspecies:

CeH tubular having dome-shaped valves. Margins of each valve furnishedwith a circlet of thin I~pillles slight1y curved which are narrowedfrom thebasis to the tops. Spines of both valves are directed towards the same pole.CeH lenght 40 /hm, ceH diameter 39 /hill. Spine lenght 45 p,ill. Round chro-matophores spread throughDut the ceH (Fig. 3, 4, 5).

Fig. 5. - Corethron pelagicum Brun, Silbeniik, October 21, 1981, 10 m depth.

This descriptiQn is alm'Oust in fuU agreement with the H u ste d t (1930)description 'Of Corethron pelagicum Brun ,species. The only difference is thatH u ste d t mentioned two spine types (1ong ones and shQrt ones) as distinctfmm one spine type we fQund. H e iI1d e y (1937) showed that the a:bsence ofshort spines in !the COrethron genus was of liIttle significance for its determi-nation since the spi ne types, thei,r number, lenght and thickness as weU asceU lenght and the deeg.re .of valve convexity were fuUy dependent on theseason and area this species i'nhabited.

KRATAK SADRŽAJ

U radu se donose podaci o nalazima novih fitoplanktonskih vrsta u Jad-l'anskiom moru i to Pseliodinium vaubanii Sournia (dinoflagelat) i Corethronpelagicum Brun (dijatomeja).

Ujedno se pojava novih vrsta pokušava sagledati i s ekološkog aspekta, ali se na temelju malog broja nalaza nisu mogli donijeti neki cvršci zakljucci.
