and decision making
Awareness of OER
• At UWS students enrolled in Introduction to IT in the academic semesters Spring 2012 and Autumn 2013 reported fair awareness of Open Educational Resources
• Research show that academics internationally lack awareness of Open Educational Resources
Why is it important?
Access to good quality learning
Reducing costs for students Lifelong learning
Outreach to disadvantaged groups
Collaborating with wider groups
Raising awareness of openness in learning
Developing an open educational resource
Collect• OER, OCW, Public
domain
Reuse• As –is, modify, improve,
translate, different context
Design • learning
objectives,learning outcomes
Publish• Open Educational
Resources
License • Creative Commons
Package• Meta data and
interoperability
“Alma is a university student , she has been asked to create an assignment for her intro to IT unit. However, she is also looking for repurposing her work into learning resource, she wants to:”

Design
You need to make a few decisions:1. Learning Objectives• Learning objectives describe the intended result of the
learning resource.
2. Components • Granularity of the completed learning resource
3. Headings• Main headings• Sub-headings
Forms of reusability
• Translation• Open source code • Web 2.0 tools• Use embed option
Make your resource reusable• Provide text, narration and
source code• Tag your work • Add authors details• Include names of content
authoring tools used
