Insights is a Google My Business listing analytics tool that gives you a

look at how people find your business listings online.  Most customers

will find your business through search and Google maps, so Insights

focuses on how customers use search and what they do once they have

found your business.

HOW DO I ACCESS MY GOOGLE MY BUSINESS INSIGHTS FOR INDIVIDUAL LISTINGS?

-   ACCESSING GOOGLE MY BUSINESS INSIGHTS   -

Desktop

To access insights for individual listings:

1. Sign in to Google My Business.

2. Make sure you’re using card view, not

as a list. Switch to CARD VIEW by

clicking the cards icon on the right side

above your pages.

3. If you manage more than one location

in your account, click the location whose

insights you want to view.

4. Click "INSIGHTS" from the menu on

the left side of the page.

Mobile

To access insights for

individual listings:

1. Open the Google My

Business app.

2. Tap the menu icon >

Using Google My Business Insights to understand how people find your

campaigns.  Knowing the source of your business listing clicks and how

search users found your listing allows you to also improve your search

engine marketing and optimization.

Section: HOW CUSTOMERS FIND YOUR LISTING

This section shows how many customers found your business in a direct

search of your business name or address versus a discovery search where

your business listing appeared as a search result for a category, product,

or service that you offer.  

You can click or tap the chart to see the percentage of all customers that

found you through each type of search.

Section: WHERE CUSTOMERS FIND YOU ON GOOGLE

This section shows customers who found you through Google Search or

Google Maps.  You will see the number of views your listing received

beside “Listing on Search” and “Listings on Maps” from each product in

the timeframe you select.  Unlike other analytic programs, you’ll see

Insights uses the word “views” instead of “impressions.”

You can see how many people found you on a particular product on a

selected day by placing your cursor over the segment of the graph on the

day you are interested in seeing.

To isolate the data points you are interested in you can turn off segments

by clicking the check boxes to the right of the graph to temporarily

remove that segment.

“Total Actions” is the total of the following types of actions:

Section: DRIVING DIRECTIONS REQUESTS

See your location pinned on the map and where customers are requesting

driving directions to your business on the map.

You can toggle between the Map and Satellite views, and zoom in and out

on the map using the + and - icons on the bottom-right corner.

A heat map shows the most popular places from which searchers ask

Google Maps for driving directions to your address.

If there is enough data you might also see the total number of requests

broken down by city or neighborhood.  

Driving direction insights are not currently available with bulk insights

reports.

Section: PHONE CALLS

-   UNDERSTANDING GOOGLE MY BUSINESS INSIGHTS SECTIONS   -

Find out when and how often customers called your business from your

Google listing in the Phone Calls section.  

At the top “Total Calls” shows the total number of phone calls in your

selected timeframe.  You can view trends in customer phone calls by “day of

week” or “time of day” on the graph.  

Here you can see when customers are most likely to call your business after

viewing your listing.

Adjust the timeframe for the data in any of the sections. In the top right

corner of each section, you’ll see “Last 30 days” if you haven’t selected a

different option. To change the timeframe, click or tap “Last 30 days”, then

select from the other two options: “Last 7 days” and “Last 90 days”.

Phone call insights are not currently included in bulk insight reports.

Section: PHOTOS

-   UNDERSTANDING GOOGLE MY BUSINESS INSIGHTS SECTIONS   -

You’ll see the number of photos associated with your listing and how often

people view them compared to photos of businesses similar to yours.  

A “Photo Views” graph shows how many times your photos have been

viewed by Google users. “Photo Quantity” shows the number of photos

uploaded by you.  Adjust the timeframe in the drop-down menu in the top

left corner.

Lines on the graph compare your photo data to businesses similar to yours,

but you may not see any data if there are not enough businesses like yours

nearby.  

Photo insights are not currently included in bulk insight reports.

DOWNLOAD BULK INSIGHTS REPORTS

-   DOWNLOADING GOOGLE MY BUSINESS BULK INSIGHTS REPORTS   -

1. Select the listings for which you’d like to download a bulk insights report.

Make sure that they’re all verified, as insights are only available for verified

listings.

2. To download insights for all of your listings, click "Download Insights" above

the list of your locations. (To download a report for a subset of your listings,

either select the listings you want to include in the report or filter your list

view. Then, click "Download Insights".)

3. In the screen that appears, click "Get Report", beside “Discovery insights”.

4. Select the timeframe for your insights data, then click "Download" in the

bottom right corner of the screen.

5. Your report will begin downloading automatically in a new tab. The

download may take a moment. Once it’s finished downloading, you can close

the screen.

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD BULK INSIGHTS REPORTS?Google My Business enterprise users can now download Insights data

in bulk directly from the dashboard without accessing the Google My

Business API.

Access Insights in bulk to download analytics for multiple listings in a

bulk spreadsheet to see how each of your locations is performing on

Google Search and Maps.

ENABLING LISTING FOR BULK INSIGHTS DOWNLOADS

-   DOWNLOADING GOOGLE MY BUSINESS BULK INSIGHTS REPORTS   -

1. In your dashboard list view, click Enable Download (to the right of the

“Download not enabled” status) for the listing you want to review.

2. Review your business information and fix any incorrect or missing

information.

3. Click Submit.

Your listing will be enabled for download.

NOTE:  Repeat the process for any remaining listings that aren’t enabled for

download. You can quickly find all such listings by clicking the "All Locations" drop-

down menu at the top of your list view, and selecting the "Download Not Enabled"

filter.

If you get an “Unable to Load” status, then the report could not be loaded due to an

error.  Wait a few minutes and refresh the page before trying to download the listings

again.  That usually works but if you continue to see an “Unable to Load” message you

should contact GMB support.

NOTE:  If you see “***” in the “Name” or “Address” column of your bulk Insights

spreadsheet, it means the listing is not yet enabled for download.  Account errors can

also prevent you from being able to download a report.  These listings need action

from you before they can be downloaded.  A possible problem could be that the listing

is not verified, has pending Google updates, or the listing has not been enabled for

download.
