• LQAS is a simple, low cost random sampling methodology.

Can be used locally, at the level of a “supervision area,” to identify priority areas.

Can provide an accurate measure of coverage at a more aggregate level.

Can enable targeting of interventions within a district.

Methods

• Descriptive analytical cross-sectional survey in 5 sub counties (S.A) using LQAS methodology

• 19 villages are sampled from each of the five ‘Supervision Areas’ in the district.

(Households were randomly sampled.)

• Tabulation and analysis of data at a common venue for all sub counties

• Key informant interviews(DHT/HWs)s and FDGs(VHTs) were also applied.Mothers with children (0-11 months)

Women (15-49)

Selected results

• Availability & use of ITNs by children under 5 years old

• Comparing ANC attendance LQAS results

• IPT Utilization

Conclusions

• LQAS offers a unique opportunity to obtain evidence based data that is critical for planning.

• The speed of collection and ready availability of data provides districts/projects with quick data access.

Recommendations

Strengthen research and Innovation is key for AMREF business plan.

Through the LQAS, project proposals and plans will be based on relevant and timely data.

AMREF HQ considers rolling and strengthening LQAS methodology in country programs.
