    Research

    The word research is derived from the MiddleFrench "recherche", which means "to go aboutseeking.

    The term itself being derived from the OldFrench term "recerchier" a compound wordfrom "re-" + "cerchier", or "sercher", meaning'search.

    The earliest recorded use of the term was in1577.
