Apologies!! Last week's puzzle had a wrong letter L
We are looking good a couple of weeks into Alert Level 2, on our way back to 'normal'. The first weekend of Level 2 saw a jump in the number of people on the streets and 'every man and his dog' out in the boat for a spot of fishing! Retailers were busy and appreciating the custom. Mitesh Patel, owner of Tairua Superette, was one of those retailers. Having been allowed to open over the whole time, Mitesh is more than happy to welcome Level 2 and the busyness that has accompanied it. "Compared to other years in May, our figures have gone up! The first weekend of Level 2 contributed to that. It was very busy. I asked everyone who came in where they were from, and it was Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga!" he said. Mitesh is very thankful to local residents who came to the
LookinggoodinLevel2
Superette during all the levels. "I really want to thank everyone for their support. It means a great deal," he said. Tairua's Punters' Bar and Grill, finally got to open to the public last week, with strict rules. Owner, Aman Singh, reported that it has been a slow start with people getting used to the Level's freedoms, but that all her customers were happy to comply with the current seating arrangements. With the Prime Minister's announcement to increase public gatherings numbers, church services will resume t h i s S u n d ay. T h e n e ws has been met with great excitement by church leaders. "Church is all about people and family. Our church family has been eagerly waiting to meet up again!" said St Francis Church's worship co-ordinator, Barry Pollard.

No, we are not talking about your optometrist visit, we are talking about plastics recycling!Rubbish routines have changed! Although collections are at their usual times and still account for blue bags, recycling, and glass, what we put into our recycling wheelie b ins has been changed. Plastics are now limited to only Types 1 and 2, such as milk containers and beverage containers. Check on the bottom of your plastics and look for the triangle and its number. If it's a 1 or a 2 it goes in your wheelie bin. Any other numbers go in your blue bag. TCDC is keen to point out that the change to collecting only Types 1 and 2 plastics has nothing to do with COVID-19, directly. Types 1 and 2 plastics can be recycled within New Zealand, but Types 3 to 7 have to be shipped overseas for
1or2?3or4?5or6?
processing. Several of the major overseas recycling plants that NZ has shipped to in the past, no longer accept our plastic waste. A number of initiatives have been investigated by TCDC for recycling Types 3 to 7 plastics, but this remains largely impractical, so until these plastics can be recycled in NZ they will be going to landfill in our blue bags. A sensible TCDC suggestion is that on the Coromandel (and elsewhere) we avoid buying products that use non-recyclable plastics where possible, in order to lessen the amount of plastic go ing into our landf i l l . In sorting and disposing of your plastic waste from now on; remember Types 1 and 2 go in the wheelie bin in the usual way, along with your metals, paper and card. All other plastics go into the blue bags destined for landfill.
